THE 5 min DO GOOD THREAD

I post here in order to ask Greek people to help our 'Greek animals'. I know that your Greek has active animal welfare laws whilst here in Greece we struggle desperately to enforce ours. Can you please spare 5 minutes to help these Greek animals.

Hello everyone, we desperately need your help.

I want to ask you if you will spare 5 minutes of your time to help the animal situation here on the island of Crete in Greece.
I have personal experiences which I could well have done without but wanted to know how big this problem is and I am truly shocked. I have literally 'forced' myself to view the many, many photographs on the Internet and read hundreds of horrific personal accounts. As a consequence I have images seared into my memory that make me weep. It needed a strong stomach and great determination for me to do this.

I don't intend sharing these images or descriptions with you, you have the right to choose for yourself, finding them is easy, forgetting them impossible.

My petition needs as many signatures as possible, I am a realist and know that petitions don't achieve 'much' ............BUT whatever little it achieves, will HELP.
If our joint efforts bring about the full implementation of these Animal Welfare Laws but one single hour earlier then this will have been time well spent..

I am asking you to PLEASE visit the petition page, Stop Animal Abuse NowPlease read my summary and if you choose, sign.
Also, can you please send this to absolutely everyone you know and ask them not only to participate but to kindly pass on to everyone they know.
The terrible abuse of animals here must be stopped.
Thank you so much,

Emergency

This board is for members of fraternities and sororities, not people of Greek descent.

That said, my experience with Greeks and dogs/cats on my trip to Athens and the islands a couple of years ago was pleasant. I saw many people feed the strays, and one restaurant on Santorini let a stray cat visit with the diners. The owner of the restaurant said to us, "They belong to all of us." Unfortunately animals are still seen by many people of the world as being far inferior to humans and are treated as garbage.

I really wasnt aiming at people of Greek descent, my aim is to try and contact caring people any and everywhere who will spend just a few minutes and help Greek animals in distress.
I wish, oh how I wish that your personal experience was the kind of holiday memory that everyone could carry away with them, sadly this is not the case.
Of course animal abuse takes place everywhere but the BIG difference here is that although there are animal welfare laws THEY ARE NOT ENFORCED, this means that animal abusers are NOT charged, they get away with horrendous acts of cruelty because we do not have the facility to bring them to court. In effect therefore the Greek government condone by inaction this continuing situation. There are many kind and caring Greek people who treat their companion animals with kindness and respect.
THEY TOO WANT TO SEE AN END TO ANIMAL ABUSE.
THEY TOO WANT ACESS TO THE LAWS OF GREECE TO ENABLE THE PROSECUTION OF THE MINORITY WHO COMMIT THESE NEEDLESS CRIMES.
Please Help.

Animals are in a sense far inferior to people, but i see no reason to treat them badly.

I agree. I do not believe that animals are equal to humans, just think it's terrible when people abuse and neglect them.

To the OP: animal abuse happens all over the world, including the U.S. Just because animal welfare laws exist doesn't mean they're enforced. It'll get you just a slap on the wrist in this country.
