Phrat v. Bruh
So here's the thing, in my area (or at least some of the older brothers) it can be viewed as disrespectful to call a brother "phrat". The reasoning behind it is that we are family and im guessing they believe that "phrat" is at a lower standard. Do any of the brothers agree with this and is this common in other areas?

I prefer being called Frat, Bro, or Brother [my first name].
ETA: For perspective, I am almost 30 and was made in a grad chapter six years ago next month. |

Every member of the fraternity is not a brother to me. I use the words phrat or frat to only acknowledge that someone has membership. Calling a fraternity member brother has much greater value to me.

It's terribly disrespectful to consciously not call someone a Brother of the fraternity when that's what we all are, regardless of how close we feel with one another.

You are correct. I was doing workshops with Bro. Sen. Vernon Malone this past week and he went so far as to say that he would not speak to a Brother that had his past hanging below the waist. Well, I'm not that old school but ever brother is not brotherly. For example, look at some of the post on this site. Clearly, a few folk are phrat (i'm not even sure that i would speak to the ones on GC that I would normally call phart) and others are Brothers. Its really a matter of Brothers that respect themselves and in turn they know the value of respecting others.

I agree with you regarding Brother Malone - - - I've been on GC for more than five years and all has not been well among the Brothers. I'm not trying to rehash anything but I am suggesting again that for me every brother is not Brother of mine.

I only call my LB's, chapter brothers, and frat members that I have a personal connection with Bruh.
But then, I rarely say Bruh also. |
Bruh vs Phrat
As a Alpha Man it really doesn't matter whether I'm addressed as, Phrat, Bruh or Brother. And my reason for saying this is, some Alpha's don't feel it necessary to speak or greet another Alpha at all. So, I am grateful for being recognized, and as a Senior Pastor of 28years, I'm grateful and thankful for both Fraternal and Spiritual honor and acknowledgment.

On my campus, Phrat is usually reserved for Alphas, Bro. for Kappas and Bruh for Ques...ive noticed that some have taken offense when called anything but those respective terms
