I have few questions

I am now in my second semester at a university and I am 24 years old with a daughter and a husband I am really interested in joining a sorority particulary Phi Mu but bylaw prevent that at least to my knowledge. I was also old a few others did as well but looking on here I have found out that it was not the case with quite a few even though I was told otherwise by the diretor of greek life. My question now is for other phi mu sisters do phi mu laws prevent a married new member from joining? I'm asking y'all because the people on here seem to know more than anyone else I have talked to or any other site I have been too.

Info.

As far as Phi Mu bylaws, in general, there is no issue with you being married or having a child. If you don't mind me asking-what campus are you looking at? The reason I ask is because it is also dependent upon which campus or chapter you look into.

For instance, if you went to Penn State (where I graduated from), being married and having a child would not necessarily be an issue if you really clicked with the sisters, however, at some southern chapters-it may be different.

PM me if you have any other questions. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

There is not a national bylaw to my knowledge but just as als463 indicated, it will likely depend upon the chapter and the campus norms. My chapter wouldn't necessarily say "no" to a 24-year old married mother but it is also not a normal situation on my campus, therefore, you may not be as comfortable with Greek life on my campus as an 18-year old college freshman.

She's apparently not just interested in Phi Mu-she is also on the KD forum asking the same thing.

Yeah ... I noticed that too following my post. Unfortunately, I believe that her personal situation may place her at a disadvantage on most college campuses when looking at any NPC. I do however wish her good luck.

DO NOT tell us what campus you are at. It is no one's business on Greekchat and could be very bad for you if you decide to go through recruitment.

And yes it depends on what your campus is like. When I was active, we would have had no problem with someone married. One of my pledge sisters was married. And as far as having a child, as long as the woman's priorities were in check (aka are you trying to party which having a kid at home? doesn't look very responsible), there shouldn't be a problem. My chapter has also changed DRASTICALLY since I was active, so I'm not sure how they'd feel now.
