Crumbling economy will make for thinner boxes of Thin Mints
Quote:
Tagalongs AKA Peanut Butter Patties only have 14 cookies per box. Best case scenario is that they reduce the amount by 2. At $4.00 per box w/12 cookies that would workout to about .33 a cookie. Freaking ridiculous. |
What makes it nuts is that the individual troops don't get all that much per box.
|
My neice is selling magazines for Girl Scouts too.
I seem to remember the boxes having more than 14 cookies the last time I bought them. Did they get smaller before? or am I just remembering incorrectly? |
I'm pretty sure of the count being 14; I googled for the Tagalong nutritional information and one serving (2 cookies) is 150 calories at 1/7th of the box. Obviously the other cookie flavors will have different counts. But I have always thought that there weren't enough tagalongs per box to begin with.

I posted in the Random thread that a friend of mine sold almost a hundred boxes just on Twitter alone. He did make mention beforehand about the smaller box and less cookies. I still ordered 6 boxes.
Can't wait till March 6th! |
OTW I'm jealous. My coworker's daughter's troop doesn't start selling until March.

My friend Ryan (the guy who runs the LOST podcasts) decided on a whim to see if any Tweeters would be interested in buying cookies for his daughter's troop. He expected to only sell a few boxes here and there...but he sold almost 50 in one night on Twitter alone and is now up to almost 100. I think he was able to pre-sell a few hundred to his family, friends, and co-workers as well. I only ordered 6 because 6 gets me a delivery right to my door, lol. |
I guess not? I don't know. We have a countdown to cookie time at work. Until then, I've just resorted to baking obsessively.
|
Different Girl Scout Councils have different bakers and charge different amounts for their cookies. They even have different cookies sometimes. I don't have my sheet in front of me but I'm pretty sure our Tag-A-Longs are in a box of 16 and our cookies are $3.50 a box. 60 cents of that goes to the troop itself. A large portion goes to the Girl Scout Council.
|
I already ordered my girl scout cookies from our next door neighbor. I have no clue how many are ina box, but they were 4 bucks a piece...
|
i will just have to order more boxes.
<--- greedy |
I will support the girls scouts this year. I think they are so cute and I love to support any cause that's pro-woman.
But @ $3.69 a pop during the rest of the year (when GS cookies are unavailable) I buy some of those Keebler "Grasshoppers". The same taste as Thin Mints, with tons of cookies per package. (I used to be so mad I couldn't get Thin Mints all year round until I realized that I could!) They also make what looks to be other popular GS style flavors as well. |

(and personally I don't think Grasshoppers taste anything like a Thin Mint.) And AGDee is correct, different Councils sell boxes for different prices, and have different percentages going to the baker/council/troop/individual girl. (And some even offer cookie scholarships to either camp or for college based on sales!) |
