Sundress Shopping

A question for the ladies of GC.. I'm going to Carolina Cup (horse race in SC) again this year, and I'm starting to look for a dress. I loved my dress last year, I bought it from a boutique at school, and it was really appropriate for the event. I obviously don't want to repeat my dress, and the boutique I got my last dress from is 6 hours away, so I'm looking online for sundresses and can't find any that are cute and not tacky.

Does anyone know of any good companies or websites that sells cute sundresses? I looked at Lilly Pulitzer but it's not really my style and I'm not trying to shell out $200+ for a dress I'll likely wear once. Or do you think this is something that's best left to mall shopping and department stores? I'm really just trying to kill some time at work by looking online :)

You can find Lilly Pulitzer in stores like TJ Maxx and Marshall's sometimes. I haven't seen many sundresses in stores yet, aside from the J. Crew beach dresses, because of the season. What is your budget?

Here's a link that offers a dress search. I find it very useful, as you can search by price/color/brand/etc.

Good luck!

I'd like to keep it under $100 unless I reallllly love the dress. The dress I wore last year cost around $60 I think.

ree-xi, thanks for the link, I'm checking it out now!

I've seen some cute sundresses at J. Crew. I've bought a few of mine there (and, of course, at Lilly). I don't remember what I paid for it but I think it was under $100.

bluefly.com is always a good option, and sometimes you can find really cute, designer clothes for VERY reasonable prices!

do you sew or have a friend that sews? Here's a trick that I learned years ago, go and look at patterns and find a dress type that you like and search online for dresses that are like the one that you found in the pattern book.

That website ree-xi referred me to is dangerous, I bookmarked atleast 6 or 7 dresses I liked, but only one maybe for Carolina Cup. I know where I'm dress shopping in the future though!

Looks like I'll be hitting the mall this weekend.

I swear by Bluefly, when buying sundresses/event dresses.
