Make A Difference Day 2001
Hey Everyone,
I don't know how many of you have heard about the national Make A Difference Day, which is to be held on Saturday, October 27th. At my school we're doing "Sprucing Up For Seniors". My program Adopt-A-Grandparent with the help of Habitat for Humanity will be restoring houses of a few senior citizens living around our campus. I just wanted to see what others will be doing this year. For more information about "Sprucing up for Seniors" please visit our website and sign the guestbook, to let us what you think! Make a Difference Day
Actually, I have heard of make a difference day. As a memeber of Campus Link (a division of AmeriCorps) I, along with the other two team members are required to put on an event for that day. We haven't decided on what we will do yet. We're planning on haveing that completed by the end of this week. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Last year we collected clothes for a local non-profit agency and helped clean up Lynch Street wich is the street that our univeristy is located on.
We are also required to put on a community fair which is baiscally where we invite the local non-profit agencies on campus and allow them to give an organizational overview and recruit volunteers. If anyone has ever done anything like this please email me. Campus Link Mission Statement Campus Link-AmeriCorps improves lives by promoting partnerships between campuses and communities and engaging students and other citizens in service that addresses important social concerns. www.campuslink.net |
I just noticed that you responded to this topic. Maybe you could get a bunch of people to design and paint a Mural, in maybe a less desirable neighborhood. You could get students involved as well as people in the community.
I think that we, as Black people, really need to show what we're capable of doing. When you hear about the whole Make a Difference Day and see pictures, there are rarely any Black faces shown. I would like to see that changed as soon as possible. My group will be sending the national org. tons of pictures after our event. Well good luck in your efforts. |
