Bucknell Closes Kappa Delta Rho

Excerpts from the much longer article ^ in The Bucknellian: The University officially closed the Iota chapter of Kappa Delta Rho (KDR) fraternity on Jan. 1. The closure will give the brothers a chance to “reform behaviors,” according to University President Brian C. Mitchell. In a press release, Mitchell said the suspension was necessary due to “brotherhood conduct” and “safety violations.” The decision to close the house was supported by alumni leadership and the House Corporation, which owns the KDR house and is composed of KDR alumni, according to Dean of Students Susan Hopp. The current suspension requires the chapter remain inactive until fall 2012 when it will be given the opportunity to re-colonize. The first possible re-activation date will be in 2013. If the chapter does not re-establish itself within a three-year window, “[KDR] may not be permitted to reopen at all,” Hopp said. At that point the suspension “would become permanent,” according to the University press release. . . . Fraternity members were evicted from the house on Dec. 4 due to a failed Union County house inspection. The Office of Housing and Residential Life was able to find rooms in the residence halls for all members. . . . Hopp confirmed the chapter was closed due to issues related to the conduct of the chapter as a Greek organization and the physical condition of the KDR house. “The conduct issues are confidential,” she said. “Some KDR national rules about how the chapter is to operate were violated.” . . . |
OK, maybe I'm mixing up my eastern PA private schools again. I thought the KDR chapter there closed a few years ago.

Quote:
"Former KDR Vice President Chris Collier ’10 said in an e-mail that following the closure of the KDR house in December 2007, fraternity members made efforts to increase chapter GPA, complete additional service hours, and increase the amount of philanthropy dollars earned. The brothers were allowed back into the house in fall 2008, but in light of the recent eviction, it was 'a waste of time,' Collier said." So it appears the timeline is kinda / sorta Dec. 2007 - KDR house closed Fall 2008 - KDR back, open Jan 2009 - KDR closed |
