Switch to Mac.

Trust me, you will love it.

What's wrong with it? I have Vista on my laptop and I haven't had any problems let.

My laptop would shut down a lot before I did a system restore. Now, I don't have any problems. My laptop is just a year old. My friend has had her laptop for about 2 years, and it only operates in safe mode. If she tries to operate it normally, Vista freezes. She's taken it to a tech & everything.

Coincidentally:

This means MS better get it together before they release their new OS this year.

So far the beta is doing well from reports but after Vista and Me, how many people do they think will be ready to hop on another OS especially since only after Vista just came out 2 years ago?

At least with a Mac, the reports of their equiptment failing are not as high as Windows machines.

I do wonder however with Apple now using Intel chips how much this will change in the next few years?

I love Mac.

But doesn't windows kind of need to produce a new OS, or at least an fixed updated version of Vista that is completely rebranded because of the widespread technichal problems and near PR suicide that was Vista??

That's what MS is doing now with Windows 7 which is due out sometime this year...and I don't think the advertsing blitz that Apple had last year helped any for MS either.

Vista to a degree is fixed (but if what some of you GCers have gone thru in the past month is any indication, I am lying) but still annoying and buggy in places...

My mom who recently purchased a Vista machine is slightly concerned because sometimes the networks and printer connections just mysteriously disappear.

I hate it too. It randomly stopped recognizing my built in webcam as existing, it installs my printer repeatedly (I have 12 printers installed...all the same one) and just all of these problems that my techie friend said aren't uncommon with Vista.

I've had great luck with Vista and really enjoy the working environment. I was advised, though, to only buy it installed on a brand new machine (with lots of memory b/c it's a memory hog) -- I've never known anyone who tried to install it on an old machine that didn't have a host of problems. I'm a fan though!

The current releases of Vista are phenomenal - way more useful than MacOS for the average user. "Power" users or those with rough setups are probably SOL, which is too bad, because it really is a good platform (now).

If MS hadn't performed seppuku releasing it, I don't think you'd hear about "all these problems" - most of it is self-fulfilling, user error or psychosomatic.

I have Vista on my new Dell (it's about 6 months old), and I haven't had any issues with it at all.

Live-in is beta testing Microsoft 7 and he says it is what Vista should have been all along.

I'm just happy with my XP - I'll probably get Microsoft 7 on my next PC, if they haven't already switched to something else. As much as I like the look of Macs, I just can't imagine myself using one for real.

Live-in is also alpha testing Boxee (Don't even know if that's how you spell it but it's like Apple TV but for PCs) and we're loving it. Obviously it's just the alpha test so there are a lot of bugs still left to work out (especially the fact that any remote they picture is actually the Apple remote, lol!) but we like getting all the extras to shows (Weeds, etc) and being able to watch them on the big TV.

Pretty soon we'll be permanent couch potatoes.

I'm on board with "it sucks." And mine does the same thing with installing, or trying to install, my printer repeatedly. It doesn't fully recognize it. I can only use the scanner by scanning to a flash drive then moving it over to the computer. Ridiculous! Internet Explorer stops and restarts several times a day. It's a bit better since I had a techie look at it but it still sucks.

n.b. - I'm starting to blame a lot of it on HP. Every HP product I've had has turned to crap.

That's why I'm so glad I bought a Mac when it was time to buy my laptop. I went off to college right when Vista came out, and a lot of my friends bought PCs with Vista and had so many problems with their school work. The computers on campus run on XP and anything my friends did on Vista couldn't be opened on campus. I never had that problem, even using a Mac.

Not to mention their computers ran ridiculously slow, even if they only had one program open. I'd go crazy.

You can save almost anything made in an Office 7 program in the old format so that people with older OS can open it.

I love Vista. I've had it on my HP for a year and haven't had any problems. It took a bit of getting used to, but overall I think it is easier and more convenient to use. The only thing I regret is not getting more memory -when my brother bought a laptop this summer, he paid for twice as much memory and his runs MUCH faster.
