Spring 2008 Recruitment
I post on here under a different name but I wanted to share my recruitment story! I went through informal recruitment last spring at a larger school, we have about 20,000 students but only about 3% are involved in greek life. We have five sororities and I'm going to name them after my favorite authors :)
John Grisham Nicholas Sparks F. Scott Fitzgerald Stephenie Meyer Tess Gerritsen I was a legacy to two different sororities but unfortunately neither one was at my campus. First I'll give a little background: I had gone to school just down the street from my college and I used to drive by the greek houses on my way to and from school everyday and I fell in love with Stephenie Meyer's house. It was GORGEOUS! I couldn't wait to get to school and go through recruitment! When I finally got to school in the fall I went to a Meet the Greeks social and I had a really great time talking to all the girls. John Grisham-they were well known for their grades, I had never been very academic in high school though I went to a very, very good high school. I had always managed to just get by with a B average so I was sort of intimidated. They were all very nice though. Nicholas Sparks-they did not give me a good first impression, they seemed kind of ditzy and didn't spend a lot of time talking to me except about parties and such. Stephenie Meyer-I had so looked forward to talking to these girls but I walked away disappointed. They seemed so disinterested in talking to me and only concentrated on other girls, I was so upset especially since my boyfriend's mom had been president of this chapter. However, I was still hopeful that the other girls would be more interested. F. Scott Fitzgerald-I don't remember these girls very well, they had just gotten a new house though and it was very nice though I still thought Stephenie Meyer had the nicest house. The girls did not leave any impression on me good or bad. Tess Gerritsen-I was completely disinterested in this group and they had no house. They had lost their house because of drinking and I was not a partier so I was really turned off by that fact. I barely talked to them. Overall though I was really excited for recruitment so I went to register but when I saw the schedule I realized that I couldn't make a couple of the parties so I decided to wait to COB in the spring when it fit in my schedule better. One of my very good friends and hallmates did go through recruitment and she joined John Grisham. COBs in the spring to come! |
Nicholas Sparks is my favorite author! That's who I'm pulling for!
|
I admit I'm not a reader... lol, but I recently decided to give into the Twilight craze, so I'm pulling for Stephanie Meyer!
|
although Stephanie Meyer is not my FAVORITE author, I just finished new moon and I'm a little obsessed right now.
so go Stephanie Meyer! |
I love John Grisham and Nicholas Sparks

I just got addicted to Twilight this past month, at first I thought I would hate them but my aunt got the four books for me for Christmas so I felt like I should at least try to read them, I was hooked lol. Anyways time for another update...
Spring 2008 came around and I was interested in going through COBs once I saw a flier for Stephenie Meyer. There was an information night that I decided to intend, each sorority had their own booth. I ran into another hallmate of mine "Karen" right at the entrance so we decided to walk around together. F. Scott Fitzgerald-Karen wasn't very interested in this group but I wanted to see what they had to say. It turned out that one of the girls "Jocelyn" graduated from the same high school I did! I had such a great time talking to her and she introduced me to everyone there! She seemed so genuinely interested in me and it was great to reminisce about some of the things that made our high school so amazing :) She acted so excited to meet a fellow "Knight" and I was equally excited to make a connection with her. She gave me the dates of their events and I couldn't wait to go to one! Stephenie Meyer-Once again this group did not impress me very much but I was still determined to make it work (silly PNM that I was lol). They were a lot nicer this time but there was no connection like there was with Fitzgerald. Still I was really excited to go to their events and so was Karen. John Grisham-This was Karen's favorite and my hallmate/close friend had just pledged Grisham in the fall. She really loved it but I still didn't feel like it was the right fit for me. I knew a couple other girls in this chapter and it seemed like all they did was study, they didn't seem very active on campus and I was looking to get involved more and make new friends. Tess Gerritsen-I honestly couldn't even tell you if this chapter was there that night. I'm pretty sure they were but I had zero interest so I didn't talk to them. Nicholas Sparks-I met another fellow Knight here and it turned out that she was the one who had given me my tour when I had been considering transferring! What a small world. It was definitely clear that she loved her sorority and her enthuasism was contagious. She also told me that one of my favorite teachers had been a Nicholas Sparks at our campus so that was really cool. This was the last booth I visited and I spent so much time talking to them and when the event was over I didn't want to leave. There were PHC representatives that were there, disaffialited from their chapters, to talk about different aspects of PHC, such as scholarship and philanthropy from a more general perspective. I talked to some of them and they made me feel really good about Greek Life. At this point I decided that I was only going to COB events for Stephenie Meyer, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Nicholas Sparks. Karen wanted to go to the same ones except she obviously included John Grisham as well. More to come tomorrow! |
We went to Stephenie Meyer first. I can't remember what their theme was because we spent most of the time just sitting around talking (it might have been a rootbeer float night or something...) I was sooooo nervous!!!! When we got there we sat down on a couch with a few different girls and flipped through their scrapbook. It looked like they had so much fun together! The girls were talkative but Karen sort of monopolized the conversation. She is very outgoing and I am so quiet when I'm nervous. The girls were very nice but I was so worried that they weren't impressed by me since I didn't talk very much! Regardless we had one more party to go that night so we left.
We went to F. Scott Fitzgerald next, which Karen didn't think she would like and she didn't think I would like it either. However, I wouldn't listen to her after meeting my fellow knight at the information tables. But it turns out she was right. All the girls were dressed in black which creeped me out, not in a creepy scary sense but just the fact that they were all dressed the same. I also noticed that they were almost blondes (I'm a brunette). We got a house tour and the house was very gorgeous but the one girl I was talking to asked why I was interested in greek life and I mentioned that my mom had been a ZTA. The girl like freaked out and kept saying how they had to tell their president that I was a legacy, etc... I was really confused since I thought to be a legacy it had to be the same sorority and Fitzgerald is not ZTA. I felt like she concentrated on that fact too much and didn't try to get to know me and it turned me off even more. Looking back there were some nice girls that I met but it was not a good fit and I would not be returning. Karen and I went back to our dorm, laughing about how much we had disliked Fitzgerald. The next day I would be going to Stephenie Meyer alone since Karen wanted to go to John Grisham. Then we would meet up at Nicholas Sparks |
