Your favorite party or theme?

I'm really enjoying reading people's little bits and pieces about their rush/recruitment experiences. I hope others are as well! :)

So...

What was your favorite party or theme from a group you DIDN'T join? (I'm asking people to share about groups they didn't join to keep with the Panhellenic spirit rather than everyone sharing about their own group.)

Was the theme touching, clever, fun or just really original? Was it the skit? The video? The preference ceremony? What still stands out in your mind? :)

I went through COBs but I went to one of ADPi's COB parties and it was an old movie night and they showed Breakfast at Tiffany's, which is one of my favorites! Of course no one really watched it since we were all talking but it was still a nice atmosphere :)

Alpha Phi did a gorgeous french theme with "J'Adore A'Phi" shirts and a big eiffel tower.

Phi Mu did a cute Grease theme, with everything done like the "Pink Ladies" - get it? ;)

Tri Delts did "Fly Delta" and the skit was about tri delts on an airplane traveling to locations over the world where there were other tri delts. Rushees were seated for the skit with boarding passes, etc. Very cute

ZTA did a slumber party thing and all the sisters were in pajamas. It made it seem very comfortable and cute.

Pref for Alpha Chi was beautiful. The girls all wore red dresses and the Rushees (as we were called back in the day) sat in chairs in a semi-circle. They showed us their pledge pin which I thought was way cool because I didn't know there was such a thing, and their dream cake was the most yummy thing I ate all week.

The hard part was that this was my second pref party, and I knew when I got my schedule it would be on my mind more than Kappas pref party. The Kappa pref party was nice, but not nearly as nice as the Alpha Chi one. However, I had been a KKG wannabe all week and was anxious to get my pref card so I could fill it out with Kappa at the top. I knew that when it was all said and done, I wanted to be a Kappa no matter how awesome that other party was.

At my school, ZTA had the most awesome skit. They did a "Grease" skit that was amazing! Props, costumes, invitations (this shows how old I am!), bottled Coke's with straws, the works! It looked like a Broadway production with singing and dancing that just blew everyone else's skits away.

Kappa Kappa Gamma's pref party was so pretty! All their girls were dressed in black dresses and pearls for a tea party. They gave every PNM an iris to place inside a vase.

Pi Phi's philanthropy night served mini cheese/broccoli quiche. Nuff said! :)

I'm a bit partial to Tri Delta's parties during my recruitment. On sisterhood night, all the girls dressed in black pencil skirts, white blouses and pretty colored scarves with "wings" on their clothes for the motto, "Fly Delta Airlines."
Another night was a PJ party, and Pref was even better. I felt comfortable joking and talking with all of the sisters, where I really did get to mingle with most of the chapter. We all stood in a circle, pinkies linked and sang a few Tri Delta songs. Finally, seniors read letters about their memories in chapter and how their sisters were wonderful to them. So cute!

I didn't go through theirs last year, but the ZTA at my school did Disney theme, using different princesses each night. It was adorable.

I enjoyed Phi Mu's skit round. They opened with a song from the Muppets which was so freaking cute and it stayed in my head all week!

The ZTAs on my campus also did the Grease skit. It was complete with the classic soda bottles and shirley temples!

One of my favorites was a Delta Zeta 2nd invite party. All the girls were dressed in pink dresses, and the decorations were green. They served turtle cheesecake!! The whole ambiance was awesome!

Phi Mu at IU did a theme based on "A League Of Their Own," with all the sisters dressed in baseball jerseys. It was really cute.

I thought most of the skits were cheesy. What I remember is the conversations I had with the members. The skit themes didn't sway me, though I can say the general morale/enthusiasm I definitely DID notice.

My favorite skits were Sigma Night Live at my own chapter and Grease at AChiO, but ironically, both have changed their skits to something else since I went through. Their skits stuck out to me not because of the themes, but because of the energy the chapter put into them.

I liked DG's pref ceremony with the leis. Pretty standard "sister wears an object, gives it to the PNM and PNM takes it off and makes a wish" preference, but the leis are nice, and the new members wear them on bid day. I know many DG chapters around the country do this.

I can't emphasize conversation enough in preference, or any round really. I had really great pref experiences at DG and SigKap because of the conversation. If you're feeling the chapter because of who you've met, you won't be put off by a so-so ceremony. Likewise, if your conversation is so-so or poor, a great ceremony usually won't persuade PNMs to join.

For philanthropy round, I liked how Zeta had their house totally decked in pink (and had cute martini glasses filled with pink lemonade and rimmed with pink sugar). Again, I had a great time at Zeta during philanthropy round because I had great conversation, the aesthetics of the party were just...aesthetic.

Other than my own sorority's, I vividly remember the AST pref party for 2 reasons:

1. One of the girls read the "what is a Tau" poem and was practically hysterical sobbing. It was a bit much.
2. There were probably 100 of us packed into a suite that should hold around 25....WITH CANDLES. I had on a tank-top dress with a Shaker sweater over it and was literally streaming sweat. I think some girls were ready to pass out.

So, the next time you get upset about not being able to use candles...remember this story.
