Trying to return to my sorority! need advice!

So I was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha up until Fall 07 when I had a lot of personal problems going on and instead of being there for me when I needed them they were too busy yelling at me for not making it to the first meeting when I was in the emergency room or taking away my position because I couldn't make it to formal recruitment. My grandfather was dying in the hospital so I just thought they would understand better than they did and realize that my family had to come first. I typed the advisor an email to let her know I was leaving zeta because of the above reason.

SInce then the sorority has made some major improvements and now that I want to return I was told I can't because I quit and once you quit you can't rejoin. I wouldn't call me leaving quitting, I'd say more of an extended absence. But I thought that once u were initiated it was for life? like they are always your sisters. Is anyone familiar with zeta bylaws and can tell me if there is any way I can get back in? Two girls left the entire college to go to a community college and they were welcomed back. So was a girl who left the chapter for a year.

A ZTA would probably best able to answer your questions.

But you keep using the word "quit" - Did you turn in your pin or fill out any paperwork to say that you were no longer a member? Could the email you sent to your advisor read that you were de-activating your membership? The girls who went to the community college and then welcomed back could have left in good standing - it doesn't sound like you did.

You will have to consult ZTA but I would guess that it all depends on the paperwork you filled out with your HQ when you "quit". If you applied for interim status due to personal reasons I anticipate that you will still be in "good standing" with HQ but if you resigned your membership, I don't know.
