Garfield Minus Garfield

Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.
Loved it:

Wow, that's just...depressing! I never saw Jon as being THAT pathetic, it is interesting to see just his side of things. But it reminds me of an "alternate ending" someone drew for the end of Calvin & Hobbes (one of my all-time favorites) that I also found too "real" to be enjoyable -- it showed Calvin working on some homework and Hobbes sitting next to him saying something like "wow, you're really focused on your homework" and Calvin says "yeah, I guess the medication's working, like Mom says" and then the last frame is Calvin still just working on his paper and the stuffed tiger sitting next to him -- so he doesn't "exist" even in Calvin's world anymore. :( Who would want things to end that way???
