last year interest

what advice would any of you give to someone who is a senior at her school, about to graduate and is interested in becoming a member of a sorority? Background... She didnt particpate in ANY functions this semester and was not proactive this year at all... although last year she says she was very involved and active on campus. would it be better for her to do grad chapter or should she still get involved on campus before she graduates?

Judging from your last sentence, I assume you're talking about NPHC sororities. Based on the announcements posted in the NPHC sorority forums, it's likely you won't be getting too much (or any) information online.

Assuming this spring is your last semester you might as well get involved , show interest, and give the org an idea how dedicated you would be as a grad member. Juggling a job after college and being active is quite hard, but just as rewarding as a "regular" undergraduate involvement, so go for it!

I don't know what type of sorority you're talking about (NPC, NHPC, local), but I can tell you that it all depends. I come from an NPC chapter that doesn't do formal recruitment. One semester, about 4 years ago, we had a girl who lived with three of the sisters, became very close with those members, and was initiated in her last semester of school. We were able to do this as we always struggled to find new members, and at that time, we were nowhere near total.

As for a school that has scores of young women looking to join... this probably wouldn't work. Initiating a member who will never contribute to the sorority as an active collegiate member might be completely out of the question.

Try to become a member now, but if things don't work out as an undergrad, don't be too surprised by it.

After that, if you're able to become a graduate member... great!

Good luck.
