Surfer kid rushing at OLE MISS

So Im from Florida. Surf every other day. and every weekend. Never worn a polo in my life. its always board shorts and surfer shirts. I have nice surfer sweaters and such. but i need polos right. and surfers in florida we dont drink. and i have to drink to rush at ole miss right?

Duuude, you don't want your rush to be a bummmerrrrr duuuuude!

You don't have to drink to rush anywhere. If that is the view you have of Greek life, don't rush.

Please work on your spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

Board shorts and surfer shirts are not acceptable for rush at a conservative school, or any school for that matter - you are an adult now. Look at the websites for the chapters to get an idea of what you should be wearing.

Are there big enough waves to surf in Florida?

I don't know, I've never been surfing...just wondering.

AlphaDeltaDelta 12-02-2008 05:41 AM

Well I'm not sure how they do it down South, but over here we don't force anyone to drink for any reason, and people can dress however they want for non-formal functions. Many guys in my fraternity don't own a single polo, but they all have a nice suit and a few collared dress shirts for formal occasions/meetings.

St. Augustine, Vero Beach, Cocoa Beach, Daytona, list goes on

those were from yesterday in St. Augustine.

So, yes, there is good surfing on both the Atlantic side and the Gulf side.

Lol. I was thinking the same thing. Just from what I know about fraternity life at Ole Miss, I would say it's not IMPOSSIBLE to go dry. It's just gonna be kinda weird and awkward. Drinking just is a major part of the campus life at Ole Miss. (Or it was in the 90s when I was there...)

Just my $.02. *Backing out of the forum*

+1

ETA: If your hair is long (I'm in Oklahoma, I don't know what surfers look like), cut it.

Considering that about 30% of undergrads are from out-of-state I doubt you'll be the only "surfer kid." Ole Miss is a party school so just keep that in mind but don't let that scare you away.

CrackerBarrel 12-02-2008 02:11 PM

He got all y'all.

No way in hell this kid is real. If you do nothing but surf and it is your life, why the hell would you go to a school in north Mississippi? It's hard to go to school in the southeast and find a school farther from surfable water than Ole Miss. Also, the allure at Ole Miss is the tradition and conservative party atmosphere, no reason a surfer kid would go there over somewhere like, say, any of the Florida schools where the surf/skate crowd actually exists. Not to mention the name DudeOfFLA.

And everyone I know from Florida who surfs drinks. Quite a bit.

LOL. No, based on his username and his location, he's a Chi Psi.

Yeah, the OP has to be a joke, but one of the best ones in a while.

AlphaDeltaDelta 12-02-2008 05:08 PM

I believed him because I had a buddy when I went to Boston University who was a complete surfer guy from Corpus Cristie, TX who didn't drink at all either and wanted to go greek. While there is some surfing possible in Boston and the area, it's about the polar opposite of surfing in Texas.

Elephant Walk 12-02-2008 05:23 PM

Wait, you can surf in Texas?

by the way, if anyone was wondering about Awesome Dudes (Alpha Delta)

AlphaDeltaDelta 12-02-2008 05:29 PM

Haha I like that awesome dudes can include girls... Yes you can surf in many places in Texas along the Gulf, pretty decent surfing I've heard, though I've never been.
