Who did you prefer?

Every station on TV covered the attacks from last week, even MTV had CBS news on instead of its regular programming.

Which broadcast had you fixed in front of the TV?

Without this incident occurring, when it comes to National News, who do you prefer to watch?

RATHER?
JENNINGS?
BROKAW?

I LOVE Dan Rather!

Heyyyyyyy! What happened to Bernard Shaw of CNN?

Bernie retired in February!

I have to watch Katie, Matt, Ann, and Al in the morning on "Today".

For evening news, I like all three but Peter Jennings has a more calming effect. I watched him most of the time for coverage on the attacks.

I must admit that watching Dan Rather break down on David Letterman last night had me in tears, too.:(

I personally liked ABC. Seeing Peter Jennings and Dan Rather along with many other reporters break down and cry showed us all how human they are. It' a shame some people were blasting them for showing emotion but last week's tragedies brought out the emotions of everyone .

Mornings: I also like The Today Show with Matt, Katie, and Al.

Otherwise, I normally like Peter Jennings. The anchor who had me fixated as events unfolded, however, was Dan Rather, because he expressed the most emotion. Brokaw finished last with me, a little too stoic.

CNN scooped everybody. They had a million and 1 different angles of the NYC attack. You would have thought they had done!

I thought Jennings handled it though, it looked much more human, and emotional especially on the first day.

Side Note---ABC has decided to stop airing footage of the impact, saying that it has become gratuitous. I would have to agree.

news people

I like CNN and ABC the most. I don't care who the personnel is. They all lie very well, but I like the CNN camera shots cause they go everywhere.:D

I like CNN also. I don't know the personalities, but when I want the most up-to-date news, I go to CNN.

Stoic?

Either Brokaw or Jennings is from Canada originally. I can't remember which one.

But Dan is from TEXAS!

No disrespect to the Canadians, but I think that will affect how one delivers "national news".

Steeltrap 09-19-2001 07:23 PM

Soror, Jennings is Canadian. Brokaw's from South Dakota (which is fairly close).
For overall coverage, I like CNN, which sets the standard for cable news coverage. I passed by Fox News, which I think is biased.

AKA2D '91 09-19-2001 07:35 PM

Thanks for the info Sorors.
I miss Bernie in times like these. I 'member him during DS and this other guy from CNN.

I like CNN, too, since it is 24 hours. I love CNN headline news even more. Yet, their new format kind of had me  when they made their change.

I loved Bobbi Batista's hair do, she's letting it grow out. I think the black dude on CNN has on too much make-up, he's usually on in the AM. I liked Susan Rourke on Talk Back Live, but she left CNN.

I'd rather listen to Rather in a disaster...

It's funny this topic should come up. On 9/11 I got mad applause when I switched the station in the break room from CNN to CBS to get hold of Dan... There was one contester and she conceded once we realized that CNN (amongst others in the initial stages) was about 2 or 3 minutes behind CBS.

CBS blew everyone out of the water last week, really. They were first and the last on site. There was excellent coverage and up close and almost too personal footage within 20 minutes of the first plane crash... they had mad ground coverage. CNN had a lot of pics -- some of which I saw on CBS first (stations do share). Although CNN did have seem to have all of the aerial shots... IMPO that was b/c they couldn't get any closer having gotten on the scene too late. But then eveything was grounded.

Rather is very professional yet personal. He is always good for saying what everyone is thinking.

IMHO CBS always has the best news.... they get the people's perspective from a very unique and personal angle. And 60 Minutes has been on point for YEARS.

I do like other news shows and reporters. Stone Phillips (NBC DateLine) being one of them. I like his delivery a lot. But CBS is one of my faves.

Hello Everybody! I finally joined the forum!

I when I first heard about the tragedy, I was flipping through all the channels because I could not believe what happened.

My favorite was Peter because of his delivery and his emotions. However, Dan had the right words at the right time. I felt like getting a note pad everytime he sais something good.

What burned my azz was BET  . ALL the networks, even the CMT (Country Music Television) went live. I could care less about videos! BET finally went live around 2 or 3 that afternoon???

Anyway, as far as evening news, I am a striaght Peter fan. I've been down since Peter, Frank and Max days on ABC.

i was talking w/a friend about b.e.t.'s sorry coverage of the attacks on america. it was almost as if the attacks didn't occur, as far as bet was concerned, unless you tuned to that channel after 10pm. even after the attacks, during the day, they continued to air regular programs.

we have two all spanish channels in the nyc area and they went live immediately and remained that way until friday. yet b.e.t., would have you believe that they truly represent what black america watches, which is so sad.

tudibuk 09-20-2001 12:16 AM

I know Stillwater. BET SUCKS!!!

Even the networks like HGTV and Home Shopping Network just cold cut off programing out of respect.

Is BET showing that Black America don't care about life changing events unless P Diddy buys a new platinum chain or whatever.

We had a lively debate about BET and its coverage or lack of same on another listserv I belong to. Unfortunately, BET seems to me to be such a waste of potential. I watch it from time to time, especially if Lead Story is interesting. One would think they have enough resources (after all, Viacom, CBS' owner, is their owner too) to have some degree of on-site coverage as the thing was happening.
Noooo...can't disturb those booty videos.
