Say Yes to the Dress

Someone point me in the right direction of a thread if this one has already been done.

Does anyone watch it?

I wish Claudia would just get fired already!

SWTXBelle 11-21-2008 11:43 PM

I was thinking the same thing - Claudia is AWFUL.

agzg 11-21-2008 11:45 PM

She gets mad at the clients if they don't like the dresses. HELLO LADY! THIS IS NOT YOUR WEDDING!

KSUViolet06 11-21-2008 11:58 PM

I've been watching this show since it started. I've posted about it a few times in the "Wedding Gowns" thread.

I don't get why Claudia is still working there myself.

Random sidenote:

I know I've posted about this before elsewhere, but what is it with girls wanting that one Pnina Tournai gown with the see-through top that looks like lingerie! Every episode it seems like there's someone trying it on or getting fitted for it. I don't get it.

That dress is so incredibly trashy.

I'd hate for my (theoretical) future husband's grandmother to see my belly button as I'm walking down the aisle.

I've noticed though that most of the women trying it on are fairly young (or at least look fairly young). Maybe it's only something you'd take the risk on if you were still in your early twenties.

ETA: OMG it comes in cocktail length, too. Blegh. http://kleinfeldbridal.com/index.cfm...rowid=2&page=1

For kicks, some more Tournai creations:

The 2nd one reminds me of Cruella DeVille. Seriously.

I swear there was a thread about this show but I can't find it now. Maybe we were just discussing the show within the "Bridezillas" thread at one point?

I freakin' love this show. I miss cable. :(

I totally agree with you! I cannot believe how many brides try this on and think it is the perfect dress! It truly looks like lingerie attached to a skirt.

Clarification - is Claudia the salesgirl who can't make a sale and keeps getting called into the office about it?

I am so glad this thread was started. I love this show. I get a real kick out of the dynamic between the brides and whoever comes with them.

The one thing my daughters and I agree on after watching this show: do not bring a gaggle of bridesmaids with you when shopping for the dress. Also, always take a picture of the dress and of you in the dress on the day you order. Too many brides come back and think the dress is wrong, etc and get upset.

Yep.

I agree with the too many people thing. I think that's how alot of girls end up buying a dress and then hating it later. They get caught up in all their friends saying how great it looks.

Any of the weddings that I've been in, the bride went with only one or two people until she had decided on and ordered the dress. Both brides also took us in shifts if she needed us to try on our dresses.

One thing I was really glad for was my brother's wife took my mom and I to the Bridal store and had me try on my dress for her, and then she tried on her dress for my mom. We didn't know it then, but my mom had stage four bladder cancer at the time. She passed about three months before the wedding. But, during her illness she talked about how beautiful it was going to be all the time. I was really glad she got the chance to visualize the ceremony at the very least. It takes a special kind of woman to WANT to go to the Bridal store with her future mother-in-law.

Back to the show, here's another question I've been thinking of. Why are all these women bringing their fiance's to the store? Granted, I'd want to be sure he liked it, but whatever happened to the element of surprise?

I don't think I would do that, but I think some people are less traditional and are wanting to involve the fiance in every aspect of the planning, even the dress.

There was one bride in an episode who brought her fiance along to look at dresses (and looked at like 5 or 6 of them), but didn't tell him which one she chose. I thought that was neat because it got him involved, but still kept the element of surprise.

That's a good idea. It looks like the consultants get a little peeved about the fiance being there though!

My wife used to watch this show. Very random, I knew two of the brides-to-be who were featured (through mutual friends).

ASUADPi 11-24-2008 08:26 PM

I love this show!

Claudia simply annoys me. I wonder if she is still working there.

If I ever got to go to Klienfeld I'd want Keesha as my consultant.

Do you guys remember the episode with the bride who's parents bought her a 30K Pnina dress and then like a month before the wedding she decided that she "hated" it and they then bought her like a 27k dress! Talk about Bridezilla.

I can't even imagine spending 30k on a stupid dress that I'm only going to wear for like, what 5 hours!!!

I always joke that there is this Lazaro I want that is like 6k, but I do live in reality and going over 2000 for a wedding dress is over my budget.

On TWOP's forums, a poster posted this interview with one of the owners, Ronnie. According to the interview, Claudia no longer works at Kleinfeld's. LINK

Claudia had been with the store for a short time compared to the other sales girls. She was the new kid on the block. She was picked originally because she was flamboyant, young, and Half Yard liked the demographic she appealed to. They had no idea after her interview what she would become. As the whole team of people had shot thousands of hours in the store for months, they realized every time they shot her, there were problems with staff, managers, and everyone else – and as it aired, it became a focal point. People became concerned enough to not have her as a consultant, after she had her first episode where she appeared to not have a warm, engaging manner. She came across as someone who knew everything and didn’t listen to brides and their mothers. People e-mailed and called, saying she was trying too hard to say what she thinks and not listening. It turned out that she was putting her foot into her mouth; it seemed to be that way every week. You shoot reality and you never know what you will get. It wasn’t planned this way at all. Claudia is no longer at the store – her employment was terminated, but not on air, because of privacy. It was unfortunate that her performance was not up to par. We still get calls about what happened. People still request not to have her as a consultant if she is still employed.
