Presenting at UCI

On Wednesday night, Betty Mulkey will be here to do a presentation at UCI. If we get the chapter, it will be the first one in Orange County!!! We are up against Sigma Kappa and Phi Mu. Luckily, KD has a VERY strong alumnae base in OC with 3 award winning AAs.

Unless my schedule gets changed at the last minute, I will not be able to attend the presentation :(

Will keep everyone informed!

How exciting! Do you know when the colonization would take place?

I was unable to attend the presentation since I was training poll workers for the elections that night. There were about 80 KD's in attendance which included sisters from San Diego State (Beta Rho), UCLA (Alpha Iota) and Cal Poly Pomona (Epsilon Upsilon). I am told that Betty Mulkey and Kim Flood did a fantastic job and Carol Coordt spoke about all of the KD's in the area. The 8 sororities on campus and the expansion committee are scheduled to meet and vote and let us know the results in the next couple of weeks. I will let you know as soon as I hear something.

When do you think we'll know something? I may have missed it somehow, but I heard we presented at Bucknell as well. I would love to see one of our older chapters active again. Has anyone heard when we will here. My National source tells me Council met this past week-end so maybe we'll something offical soon.

The only information I have had is that the voting by the 8 sororities and the expansion committee was scheduled to take place the first week of November. I will post what I hear as soon as I get some kind of message. I don't know anything about us presenting at Bucknell, I only know about UCI since I live in the immediate area and there was a request for a large KD presence which they did get!

I was told that the vote is set to take place tomorrow. :)

I heard positive things about the presentations though I only attended the SK one. The ladies of UCI will have a tough choice.

Regarding colonization, the school wants the sorority to colonize in January and then hold their first formal recruitment in the fall of next year. The problem with this is that because housing isn't a set deal, the group chosen would have to recruit in a tent while the other GLO's on campus have houses. That can be problematic. Also, there would be a short amount of time to prepare the new colony to formally rush girls. They would basically be initiated, go on summer break and then return to formally rush girls. Yikes!

Still, it is a great opportunity. If I hear anything, regardless of the results, I'll update and post.

Good luck!

Received the following message from NVP-Membership, Betty Mulkey today :(:\

***************************

Thank you so much for all the information and support you offered us as we pursued the opportunity for a KD chapter at UCI. Unfortunately, while many of the chapters really liked KD, the vote fell for Sigma Kappa. I did not get a lot of feedback from the fraternity sorority adviser at UCI, but he and I are going to talk again soon and he said he would prepare feedback for that conversation. He did want us to know that they were very impressed with KD.

Mostly, I want you to know how much we appreciated your support. It meant a lot to have you in the audience and/or hear information from the local level. While I am somewhat disappointed I know that this just means there are other opportunities we will focus on and I hope sometime soon we will have a new chapter in the Orange County area. A chapter couldn't ask for better alumnae support! Thank you all!

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very happy holiday season!

With Norse Pride!
