Thinking of rushing...
I'm so glad I found this site! I'm a sophmore and thinking of rushing at my school. There has been so much helpful info here! I think our rush is a little different because we only have locals... but that allows us to do things that are probally considered hazing other places (carrying pledge books, ect). I'm pretty excited... our "meet the greeks" night is monday (even though I have a pretty good idea of the groups and what they're like around campus!) :)

Welcome to GC and good luck with Recruitment!
|
The way I looked at recruitment is that I'd never know if I didn't try. You really don't have much to lose besides the small application fee. About 50% of me recruitment class, myself included, were 2nd year students. Give in a whirl & keep us posted!
Best of Luck :D Heidi |
SHFox, I'm glad to see you're considering becoming part of the Greek world! But...being part of a local doesn't give the members the right to haze a pledge in any way, physical or mental. Most state laws prohibit the hazing of new members in any manner.
If your college permits this, the administration is putting itself--and the Greeks are doing likewise to themselves--at great legal risk. I agree that classifying certain actions as hazing (such as wearing pledge ribbons or going on non-embarrassing treasure hunts) is going overboard but what you and I think doesn't matter; it's what state law says that does. And yes, it's still considered hazing if the pledge claims he or she doesn't mind. |
Sorry I never replied... I've been having serious compter issues and that made it a little tough. I went to skit night, which was a blast, and info sessions were the next weekend. I really only had an intrest in 2 of the groups and unfortunately after meeting the sisters, I didnt think I'd fit in well with either group. I'm glad I gave it a chance insted of wondering "What if...". I also know of girls who are going before our greek board to start a service sorority and if they get on their feet, I'd definetly be interested because I think that would be a better fit for me! Thanks for all the info and encouragement!
P.S.- I'm in Connecticut |
Have you met the sisters of the other sororities? Many rushees go through Rush thinking that they would only be happy in a certain group and disregard the other groups or meet a few sisters/get a bad impression and don't give the entire chapter a chance.
I don't know what type of "service" organization the others are thinking about starting, but Greek sororites are often committed to philanthropy projects. Best of luck to you! |
service could work
don't give up....
if you think this sounds more like you, go for it. mmcat :p :D |
