LGLO Collaborations

I know that this probably belongs in another segment besides Greek Life, but I feel I would get a better responce here.

To set up my question Im going to give a breif overlay of Sigma Alpha Chi's situation. Sigma Alpha Chi is a local Latina sorority founded at Missouri State University 11 years ago. We are the first and only sorority of our kind at MSU which lends to many advantages, but also leads to some difficulties. We are not apart of NALFO, like many LGLO's are, but we still consider ourlseves apart of la familia de Latino Greeks. With that being said, Sigma Alpha Chi wants to collaborate with other LGLO's from universities within the state, but how plausible is this? With the connections we have made through attending various conferences and other programs, should we attempt to pursue such a collaboration?

Wow, I never saw this post...

Coquiporvida, are you still facing challenges in trying to collaborate with the NALFO organizations?

There is a mlatinacultural sorority in the DC area which seems to be having success with collaboration while not being NALFO. I don't know to what they attribute this success, but I might can make some connections if need be.

IIRC, her university only has one other LGLO (ODPhi), so it's difficult to have much collaboration.

Serious question: is ODPhi still officially a LGLO?

Knew that question was coming, ha. Founders and older folks are trying to get the image back to the way it was. Young folks are pushing hard for "multicultural." So, to answer your question, yes (for now ).

Just my opinion, but I am hoping you guys stick to your roots. You're one of the few Latino fraternities that is out serving the community on a consistent basis (and very hands-on, not just doing walk-a-thons or the easier stuff).

I agree. Even though I'm not Latino, I knew what I was getting myself into. A bunch of our newer guys come in trying to change the organization to fit them. It's a hell of a slippery slope. What if, for example, we have an influx of Asian initiates? Should we change into an Asian fraternity?

Not a lot of folks think about that.

I started this post a while ago actually, and since then we've had a lot more success "collaborating" with LGLO's and many MCGLO's. we have most definitely built up our list of contacts and resources which has greatly helped us out. conferences and workshops rotate a lot of the same groups/people so its very easy to see a lot of the same people several times a year. and as knight shadow said, weve been doing a lot more things with the ODPhi chapter here at MSU (which does not consider itself a latino frat, but functions as one. they are leaning toward the multicultural standpoint for mainly recruitment purposes).
