transferring?
i just pledged kappa delta at northeastern. my dad has residency in tennessee and i live in san diego with my mom. UCLA, SDSU, and UT are schools i would transfer to. i'm relying on scholarships and federal loans to get my education paid for here, and i'm getting very scared with the economy. and i don't feel right putting a $100,000+ debt on my mom. so, i at least want to have good options that have my sororities that i would have in-state tuition to. if i do transfer, will i still be a kappa delta? and will i be treated like an initiated sister?

You're still a sister, but once you leave your campus you become an aluma in sorority's eyes.
Upon arrival of your new campus (or even before you get there), you should make contact with the chapter there. Couple of key things: -You must be on good standing with your current chapter. -You need a letter from your current chapter to go to the next stating that you're on good standing and all your fees are paid. -Then the new chapter gets to vote on your affiliation. The voting rules depend on chapter bylaws, but they can say that you don't fit in with the chapter and you would just stay in alumna status. So to answer your question, you're not treated as an initiated sister until you go through the steps mentioned. For me, if I wanted to be an active in my new chapter, I'd seriously consider how competitive the chapter is and if it looks like I'd fit in. Your fate is really in their hands in that regards, but chapters do respect that you are a SISTER. But it's at the chapter's discretion to say whether not you're a good fit for their particular chapter. Hope this helps. Good luck and AOT! |
thank you for that response! it does help. that is a little/really nervewracking though that they have to vote on me :-/. but anyway, thank you so much! it was very helpful.
