In answer to some of the responses, I am a member of a group of 30 young men that could be considered as a local fraternity right now. However, with no official Greek Life system on my campus, we can't officially be classified or known as a local. However, we are interested in eventually becoming a national fraternity, as soon as the college has decided whether Greek Life is right for hte school and how to go about starting it. If there is anyone out there that has gone through the process of starting a Greek Life system from scratch, it would be great to hear from you. Thanks to all of you that have already replied to my previous message. Once again, thanks.

To affiliate with a National, the School must first allow them on campus.
Sometimes if you find a National who is willing to affiliate you, they go and talk to the School to see how the land lays and the wind blows. Many Colleges are anti Greek because of the events that have transpired with other Colleges. The problem is that if it were not for Greeks on campus, homecoming would be nil along with participation on committees! If your school is totally aganst Greeks you do not stand much of a prayer. If you can talk them into looking at other schools that have positive feed back that would be of help. If there are schools near you talk to some of the Greeks on that campus. Most Nationals are interested in expanding only where they are wanted and the atmosphere is right. We have closed down chapters for stupid things that have been done. 90 % of the Greeks are great but you only read or hear about the other 10 %. Stats prove that Greeks are more involved and have higher GPA than independents on the average. Good luck with your endevor as I affiliated with LXA and have never looked back and still work with them after @ 36 Yrs. ------------------ Tom Earp LX Z#1 Pittsburg State U. (Kansas) |
