Alpha Kappa Alpha?
I know Alpha Kappa Alpha is a predominitely African American sorority, what would you consider the caucasian version of this sorority? Delta Delta Delta?
|
I would definitely consider Kappa Alpha Kappa the Caucasian version of AKA.
Delta Delta Delta is the Caucasian version of Delta Sigma Theta. Everyone knows that. |
No, no. I disagree.
The Caucasian version of Alpha Kappa Alpha is definitely Delta Zeta. And, exuse me, but Delta Delta Delta is not the Caucasian version of Delta Sigma Theta. It's the Caucasian version of Zeta Phi Beta. Blue, hello! |

I don't think that you will find that NPHC organizations have any counterparts among NPC sororities or NIC fraternities, just certain similarities among them. For example, AKA and Delta Zeta have the same colors, but AKA and Alpha Phi both use the Ivy Leaf. AKA was the first Black Greek sorority, and other NPCs have "firsts" that they boast. I'm curious as to why you might ask, though. :) |
I don't even know how to go about answering this question. I don't think you can compare AKA to any sorority, primarily Caucasian or African American....

I asked because I like the type of girls they are... known for being pretty and classy but still smart strong and determined however I'm not African American so was looking for something comparable... I was'nt thinking in terms of colors or symbols. |
I understand what you're saying and I do believe your heart is in the right place.
The processes for seeking membership in NPHC sororities is so totally different from NPC orgs. It seems to me from GC and from knowing real-life NPC women that if you're looking to join an NPC based on some sort of national stereotype, no matter how complimentary, then it won't work -- you need to be committed to the notion of joining an NPC org in general. You can't just say "Hey, Tri Delts are all pretty and classy and that fits my personality" because it will change from campus to campus, and the fact that the Tri Delts may not want you on your campus. Or that it might not be the right fit at all. Now personally, I feel like if you like the AKAs and you have them on your campus, you should do your research and decide if you want to pursue it. The AKAs I know wouldn't necessarily allow race to be a factor in determining your worthiness. But for God's sake, if you pursue it, please don't tell us on GC about it until after you've been initiated, if you make it. GC won't be the place to ask questions about NPHC sorority pursuit. |
