of course, with delayed rush comes preconceived stereotypes about the sororities. we have six at my school, and i guess i'll name them after the 6 friends characters cause that's nice and simple, but still fun.

Rachel-this sorority is historically known for having the best sisterhood bonds, but supposedly has a lot of the ugly/fat girls that don't party a lot? from what i've seen around campus this doesn't seem true.
Ross-has been known as the top one on campus, but according to some people the pledge class last year left something to be desired. huge party girls that got in trouble last year for dirty rushing. not sure how i feel about them yet, but someone from my high school is currently in this sorority.
Monica-second in command to the Ross's. supposedly all the jappy girls from the north are here. ive heard that they do a lot of coke. yet, every single Monica ive met has been genuinely nice and friendly. based on the girls, im interested in this one.
Chandler-these are the sweet girls that like to go out and have fun, but still stay classy. other than that i don't know too much about them.
Joey-the southern girls. very conservative and supposedly very stuck-up. ive met some nice ones and some kind of stand-offish ones, but im willing to give them a chance.
Phoebe-i don't really know a lot about them either, though my big sis from another group is in this one and she likes it, but it was her second choice when she was rushing. supposedly no one pays attention to these girls. i dont know, i like my big sis, so maybe if the girls are like her...

anyway, im so excited to be here and to start rush in january!

Good luck to you.

Just because the preconceived stereotypes are there doesn't mean you have to go and promote them.

But as VP said, good luck to you.

  Good Luck...you're going to need it.

BetteDavisEyes 10-02-2008 08:59 PM

HAHAHAHAHA! I love those of you who QFP. It makes me happy.

To the OP: With your mindset, good luck. Your racist views are sure to be real winners during recruitment.

eleven12 10-02-2008 09:15 PM

im not a racist, actually. i never said i believed in the stereotypes at all.

Then why refer to them as the "jappy" girls? You may not be racist but you're certainly perpetuating that stereotype by acknowledging as sorority as such.

SWTXBelle 10-02-2008 09:57 PM

But some of her best friends are japs!

Where I come from "jappy" is extremely offensive and refers to a particular religion (not a race). I'll give eleven12 the benefit of the doubt that she doesn't know the origin of the term but please never use this adjective again! Open your mind, broaden your horizons and good luck.

I'm still trying to figure out if she was refering to JAPS (Jewish American Princess) or "japs" as in a deragatory remark towards the Japanese.

Either way, it's insulting as hell.

eleven12 10-02-2008 10:43 PM

my apologies everyone.

BetteDavisEyes 10-02-2008 10:50 PM

Live and learn.

Search the boards. Read Curlygirly's rush thread and learn about the best way to make a recruitment thread.

Good-luck.

I assume the OP's jappy reference is a stereotype on new money, wealthy Jewish girls. Is Jappy any worse than WASPy?

I personally don't like being called a WASP.
