You know you're a Gamma Phi . . .

. . . stolen from ADPi, Kappa and AGD forums!

You know you're a Gamma Phi . . .

. . . when you get excited every month during the waxing crescent phase of the moon!

. . . when you hear "See what brown can do for you", you think of Gamma Phi and not UPS.

. . . you know what "mode" is.

. . . when you hear the theme from "Ice Castles" you start singing "Love, is found in Gamma Phi, a love that never dies . . ." and when you hear "Popular" you start singing "Gamma Phi . . .I'll help you be Gamma Phi!"

Any others ?

... you'll buy almost anything in the combinations of light and dark brown and/or brown and pink

... you go to the state fair, and while perusing animals in the livestock pavilion, start singing (to yourself) a certain song from initiation ;)

... you take pictures of yourself with any sort of crescent moon you might spot

... even if you are not a fan of the Orangemen, you have a special spot in your heart for Syracuse

OMG - glad I'm not the only one!

summer_gphib 09-26-2008 10:25 AM

When your husband knows the words and hand motions to "I love the crescent moon" and sings it whenever HE sees a crescent moon. *lol*

crescent&pearls 09-26-2008 01:40 PM

You look fierce in a little black dress, accented by a crescent & pearls.

Oh, I am so guilty of that. I did it last night, in fact, talking about DWTS.

Every time you saw the words Hurricane IKE in print, you misread it as something else . . .

SWTXBelle 09-27-2008 09:27 PM

. . . the expression "Dogs Have Curly Bangs" makes perfect sense to you.

I've never heard that one before (took a bit but I figured it out)....

So I finally figured out that DWTS = Dancing With The Stars. I don't watch the show, but when I saw previews with Cloris, I did think to myself, "She's a Gamma Phi!"

But I still don't get the the "Dogs Have Curly Bangs"
Someone wanna PM us so we can understand?

And you know you're a Gamma Phi Beta (or maybe Greek in general) when you snap loudly in agreement or excitement!:D

SWTXBelle 09-30-2008 06:47 AM

It's not secret information - Dogs Have Curly Bangs is how we (Gamma Chi) pledges remembered Dodge, Haven, Curtis, Bingham. :) I guess it is not as wide-spread as I thought .

FloridaTish 09-30-2008 11:20 AM

Thank you for clarifying the "Dogs have...". I was wracking my brain trying to remember if that was something I missed in initation (it was such a blur!)

All know is that when I see anything with a Crescent Moon, I'm reminded of my badge and I think of how proud I am to be a Gamma Phi!

I was wondering what that meant! haha Thanks for clarifying

In Jesse McCartney's Song Leavin you sing GPHI instead of G5 haha

I totally do that!

How 'bout...when you hear one of your old camp songs, you substitute the Gamma Phi lyrics for the camp lyrics.

indygphib 10-05-2008 05:24 PM

...when you're happy to see crescent moons going "the right way"?

They are using this one to advertise the Discovery/Travel (?) channel. It's all Gamma Phi to me!

I love the crescent moon,
shining in the sky;
I love the pink carnation,
'till the day I die.
True to our motto:
Founded on a Rock.
Gamma Phi Beta, Gamma Phi Beta, Gamma Phi Beta, Gamma Phi Beta.

gphifoxAL 01-08-2009 03:49 PM

I've never heard of the "Dogs Have Curly Bangs" but that's clever!

...when you constantly listen to the DJ Scrilla song even though your friends don't understand why it's so funny.

OMG, not a Gamma Phi, but I've been poking through your forum because I found a pink/brown doggie shirt at American Apparel and wanted to know if it would be okay to buy it for one of my friends in Gamma Phi Beta (well, I guess I would be buying it for her dog, but ANYWAY)...

Saw this and geeked out:

I LOVE Wicked, Kristin Chenoweth, and of course "Popular"! I never rushed, but just reading that makes me smile. How cute!!!

LAblondeGPhi 06-18-2009 09:58 PM

... you can say "founded upon a rock" in Greek

... when even your boyfriend appreciates a good pink and brown pattern

... you're happy when you read about something that took place in 1874

... you like the look of the name "rob"... but only with a capital B

... you know who coined the word "sorority"

... you have an appreciation for brown that you never had before

GammaPhi1874 07-09-2009 01:59 PM

...you smile when the clock reads 11:11.

See...that just reminds me of a Something Corporate song :)

GammaPhi1874 07-09-2009 10:19 PM

I didn't think of that... :)

GammaPhi1874 07-12-2009 01:39 AM

11:11...like November 11th. 11/11/1874 :)

RachelGPB 02-20-2010 03:18 AM

We use Have Fun Eat Meat instead!
Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, Mary A. Bingham

SunDevilGreek 10-13-2010 11:07 PM

... you name your pets after the founders! Well I've only done one so far: Eunice!!

izzygirl 09-08-2011 03:35 PM

At the bid day party the DJ takes a five minute break and it takes five seconds for your sister to take control of the music..."I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie wooorrllddd..."

voguegirl 05-13-2013 01:37 PM

...you hear "Brown-Eyed Girl" and get excited every time.
At least at my chapter we do :)

Cheerio 06-29-2015 06:01 PM

old bump...
