Favorite Shampoo
Recently there has been a favorite hand bag thread and favorite kinds of make up, but I have yet to see a favorite shampoo thread.
What is your favorite shampoo? Mine is a toss up between Dove Go Fresh Therapy in energize and cool moisture. |
Garnier Fructis
|
I use the Pink Sunsilk...from the Philippines. The American Sunsilk just isn't good enough.
|
Suave's Shine stuff (their designer knockoff). It's amazing, and it's under $2 a bottle!
|
Graham Webb's Ice Cap-- although it's really hard to find here. I'm going through a phase (started last year) of my hair being really oily. So now I'm using Prell, because it really clarifies well.
|
Mine is a toss up between three that I really love and rotate around in: KMS Clarifying, Biolage Normalizing shampoo, and Paul Mitchell Shampoo 1 (or three if i go swimming).
Conditioner-wise is a toss up too because I usually do treatments: Biolage Color Care Conditioner KMS Leave in detangler/conditioning spray The Body Shop: Poppyseed Hair Reviving Mask Oscar Blandi Trio: exfoiliator, hair mud mask, and conditioner. |
I'm a Rusk fan, myself.
|
This thread came along at a good time. My hair's been looking like crap lately and I don't know if it's shampoo burnout, crappy water or just the fact that I'm getting old.
|
I'm having shampoo burnout. I switch from Redkin to Infusium to Suave. I can't really find anything I like anymore.
|
I like TRESemme Vitamin E Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner. Unfortunately, live-in bf seems to like it as well.
I'm not going to lie - it's a little creepy when he gets out of the shower and smells just like me. |
I love Aussie Cleanse and Mend - for oily roots and damaged ends. The shampoo bottle says - "Sometimes your roots are greasy, your ends are frazzled, and your car won't start. This helps two of those problems." The conditioner says - "Greasy roots? Frazzled Ends? Bad credit? No problem! Just use this!"
The products work very well. The funny bottles are a bonus. |

I used to use Bumble and Bumble's Gentle Shamoo, and Super Rich Conditioner but they are in scarce supply here in WV so I've been using Pantene's brunette whatever shampoo, which I like, and trying out various conditioners (and have yet to find one I love). |

Biolage Color Care shampoo and conditioner or Matrix Sleek Look shampoo and conditioner. I am a sucker for what they sell at the salon even though it is ridiculously overpriced.
|
I use Paul Mitchell Super Strong shampoo/conditioner system and am very happy with the product. I will alternate between that and Biolage Color Care.
I've tried Paul Mitchell's Color Protect but I felt as if it was too mild and my hair wasn't "clean." |
I <3 Aussie. I think mine is called Shine and something else.

I usually use Head & Shoulders, because I have a really dry scalp, but it doesn't help my hair (it seems to dry it out). |
Nexxus Therappe for me! I used to use Aphogee which was also awesome, but my hair dresser recommended this one and it's super moisturizing.
|
My shower currently has Aveda Dry Remedy, Color Conserve (can't stand but using up the bottle) and Chamomile shampoos along with a Lush Squeaky Green shampoo puck. Then there's Aveda Damage Remedy Conditioner, philosophy amazing grace conditioner, and a Suave knockoff (think it's the Nexxus one).
I'd like to find a really good everyday conditioner for color treated hair though. Any suggestions? |
Usually I use Pantene's Purity... their basic clarifying shampoo. I tend to have oily hair and this stuff helps alot.
I also LOVE Victoria's Secret So Sexy. I use the "balancing" shampoo and conditioner for normal hair. It smells soooo good.. |
Being one with head full of curls....finding the right shampoo and conditioner can be impossible at times!!!! Right now I am using the Dove curly hair stuff, but I have also used Brilliant Brunette and Frizease.
I used to have the hardest time find the right moose/gel combo for my curls, but now I use the Catwalk brand by Tigi! A little more expensive, around 13 bucks for a bottle, but it lasts nearly a month! |
I have the dilemna of having oily hair with color. Normally I'd just use a clarifying shampoo everyday, but I don't want to strip my color. I'll have to check out that Aussie stuff.
|
Chi or Biosilk products. They are expensive, but they really tame down my curly hair
|
Aussie Cleanse and Mend
I colour my hair, and after about a week of using it I'd say I'm really happy with the Aussie Cleanse and Mend. My roots are oil-free, and the ends look good - overall it seems to be doing a good job keeping the colour true. I've tried "colour" specific shampoos, but was underwhelmed.
|
My FAVORITE is John Freida's Brilliant Brunette line. I use the volumizing formula. I have a lot of hair, its just really fine and tends to hang. This shampoo/conditioner is the ONLY one that gives my hair any kind of movement. Plus it makes my hair SO shiny. I also love the Shine Shock leave in balm.
|
On side note, there is a page in that Atl. paper that gives info about 4 or 5 new products or foods.
Today, there was a bath gel called Black Licorice:p:p. YUCK!!! |
Aussie Sun Touched Shine
I love Aveda products too |
My favorite line is Kerastase, but it's expensive so I only buy it every once in a while. Other than that, I use Redken and Pantene.
|
Love Aussie Cleanse and Mend! It's a good everyday shampoo.

Bump.
I need a new shampoo! I don't necessarily need them but I prefer clarifying shampoos (as mentioned above). But any shampoo that will get my hair good and clean works for me! I'd love it if it has a pretty, strong scent, but that's not a must. The best two I've used so far are Pantene Purity and Herbal Essences Drama Clean. I like them, but I want to try something new. I just bought Garnier Pure Clean (the one that claims it's all natural...which I'm sure it's not) and it's CRAP. First time I used it, it was fine. I liked how light weight it felt when I poured it in my hands. Well it either does not clean very well or it's difficult to wash out, because after getting out of the shower and blow drying, my hair feels greasy underneath. It looks fine, but when I run my fingers through my hair, it just feels dirty. At first I thought I wasn't rinsing well enough, but I've NEVER had this problem before... So GC, your suggestions? I have fine, but thick hair. It styles well when I take the time to style it, but if not, it falls flat. So I don't think I need any special kind of shampoo. just one that gets my hair very clean! Bonus points if it smells pretty!!! |
There's a Neutrogena moisturing one that's light pink clear shampoo and light pink conditioner too. That one's good.
There's another called Christophe something that's in two tall white bottles but the stuff is orange. Love this too. Both these are drug store. Expensive, Frederic Fekkai, the pink one, omg, love |
This might not fit the bill as per your clarifications above, but it's the best shampoo I've found at a reasonable price. I use Herbal Essences Hydralicious in the purple bottle. We have the same hair type, and I'm pretty picky about my hair feeling/looking greasy. I was using Pantene, but it left my hair feeling greasy and heavy. My tends to get pretty frizzy and dull too, but this shampoo definitely gets the job done while leaving my hair feeling completely clean. I usually wash every other day and have no problems with after-grease. It smells amazing, and it's very inexpensive, so if you end up not liking it, you only wasted about $6 for both the shampoo and the conditioner. I hope this helps :)
|
I use L'Oreal shampoo Eversleek, it's awesome
|
So, it may be surprising, but honestly, my favorite shampoo is Head & Shoulders. Both my roommate and I use it and swear by it. It really does get your hair very clean since it's made to fight dandruff. I just love the way it makes my hair feel & smell. I've used both the silk & shiney (pink bottle) and the extra volume (purple bottle). I've actually noticed a difference in the volume of my hair too! And it's only $3.50ish a bottle, so it's definitely worth a try

This won't apply to your wants, LovesPink, but as a general recommendation:
I invested in using nicer shampoo once I started coloring my hair- I pay too much money to have it dull faster. I can usually get through 6-8ish weeks (and sometimes longer) without fading that bothers me, and I dye it red! The two I've used have been Paul Mitchell Color Protect- it was okay, very lightweight, but my hair could have been softer, particularly since I have fine, but thick hair. I'm now using Bed Head Therapy Level 1 (green bottle) and I really like it. My hair gets clean, it's soft and easy to style. And it has a great scent. Plus, if I buy from one of those mall hair places or the WalMart hair salon, they always have sales on the shampoos. I can usually get both the shampoo and conditioner for $20, which lasts me about 2 months- a pretty good deal to extend the life of my color! |
I would suggest a salon brand (i.e. Bed Head, Redken) in a liter bottle. They are $20 at the salon I go to BUT they last me anywhere from 3 to 6 months (though I don't have to wash my hair much, it's really dry). It really is worth the investment because they can last so long and I think they're way better for your hair (I've noticed a tremendous difference in the number of split ends I got using drugstore brands v. salon). Also the versions you can get at Walmart can sometimes be watered down, to make them cheaper. I'd only buy them from a salon. It ends up being about $13/month for shampoo and conditioner, which wasn't that far off from what I paid before, and for me it's much less (i.e. I bought my last bottles in January and now just finished them in July). A hair stylist could also recommend a good brand for you, and some of the scents are awesome.

I use Terax collagene shampoo for dry hair...it smells like vanilla :) Terax has other lines and I love their crema conditioner
|
Time to update with my new shampoo: I have fallen in love with Frederick Fekkai Color Care shampoo. It is expensive, but I get it from Costco, so that at least cuts the cost a little. I do notice a big difference in my hair when I use it vs. other shampoos - not only does the color last longer, my hair is also silkier and styles better.
I like to rotate shampoos, and still find that Redken's color shampoo (red bottle) works very well, too. I always buy this in big bottles at a salon, in a package deal with the matching conditioner. While we're talking hair, I'll add that I also use Bumble & Bumble Tonic and Thickening sprays, and sometimes a leave-in ends conditioner from Kerastase. |
I'm starting to get real frustrated with finding a shampoo that doesn't irritate me, I'm not allergic to, doesn't have a strong smell, and will clean my hair and/or deal with the crap in the water that can dull it. If I find something that is sulfite free it has artificial colors/dyes. Then I find something that has citrus and chamomile but has yeast and/or other "natural" ingredients that give me red blisters on my scalp. Something that was great for my hair made my face, neck, shoulders and chest irritated since I have long hair, but the stuff that didn't set my skin on fire made my hair look disgusting. The expensive and salon lines are actually the biggest offenders, for artificial stuff and for proprietary reasons don't list everything in the ingredients.
I'd pay $50 a month/bottle if I could two shampoos so I could swap them out if/when I need to. I haven't had a hair cut in over nine months because I have no idea what is in the salon products and since they won't post it online I have to go into the salon, or my new approach, go to the beauty supply store that is also a salon and read labels for an hour. I've been getting by with the Aveda Rosemary Mint faux Suave bottle because it actually has nothing I'm allergic to, and the Aveda salon is 100 miles away so it isn't like I can casually pop in. I haven't had a hair cut in over nine months, I can't rock the Crystal Gale look when I don't have good hair products. |
