PrincessPeach's LIVE recruitment story
Hey guys! I am going through recruitment this week starting thursday at a small midwest school. I am a second year with an awesome GPA and an okay activities record but no recs at all. There are also several sorority women on campus who know me (dorm life, classes from last year, etc.) but who I am not "friends" with, so I have no idea what they think of me! I didn't rush last year... which was a HUGE mistake. I went home almost every single weekend and didn't make a single friend at school. Needless to say, I am really hoping that this whole process will help me change that. I don't have an ounce of confidence so I am REALLY nervous and keep comparing myself to other PNMs. I look at them and feel awkward and ugly.
Sooo... I can't decide if I should use Mario characters (in keeping with my user name, ha) or classic Disney characters (minnie, mickey, etc.) as my code, so I'll let you guys vote. Oh, and if you have any ideas of questions I can ask on the different nights (1st night, philanthropy, skit, and pref) I am making lists! |
I vote for Mario characters with a special appearance by Donkey Kong.
|
Mario!

The general advice thread has good examples of questions to ask in general and for each round. Try not to be nervous. You have a good GPA and activities. Since you attend a small Midwestern school, sophomore status and a lack of recs shouldn't hurt you, but a lack of confidence is always bad. Projecting confidence is something you can control. Make a list of things you like about yourself and read if when you need encouragement. Have backup questions ready so you don't feel nervous. Take your time getting ready and look polished. When you look good, you feel good. |
Mario characters, definitely. :)
And good luck! |
I have a soft spot in my heart for small midwestern recruitment tales! Please share your university at the end (or PM me) if you feel comfortable doing so. Good luck and I agree with you using Mario characters.
|
Mario characters, definitely. Love seeing a midwestern tale!
|
Mario!!!!!! :)

Me too :) Best of luck, princesspeach! I'd also agree with the Mario characters :D |
Yay for Mario
So there are 7 sororities on my campus, known to you only as:
Mario Luigi Donkey Kong Peach Daisy Yoshi Bowser TOMORROW rush begins! I am very nervous and EXCITED. I am also about to have a nervous breakdown... I still need another outfit for one of the nights!!! |
I am speechless that you are posting such things (including rankings ) before recruitment even begins!
Have you not read the threads that mention discretion? You have enough in your post that some on your campus could determine who you are! Holy Crap! Things could be over for you before they even begin! |

This seems like something only a Bowser would be able to answer. I wouldn't worry about this right now though, recruitment hasn't even started and you don't even know if you'll even Pref Bowser. I advise girls to be open minded about the chapters on campus, you'd be surprised how much your opinions can change from day to day. |
I would guess that if you don't have a rec by now for Bowser and they somehow decide to extend you a bid down the road, they will do whatever is necessary to correct the situation with HQ before extending said bid. I suppose that what I am trying to say is that it is probably out of your hands by now since recruitment begins tomorrow. Enjoy your journey and try not to worry about Bowser.

Your post screams that you are not going into rush with an open mind. For your own sake, please remove your posting, clear your head, and zip your lips for the rest of recruitment.
As someone said, it isn't that difficult for someone to find out where you go to school, and then to figure out your chapter codes. If someone at any of the chapters reads your post, you probably won't need to worry about that last outfit you haven't bought yet. |
Seriously...even if someone did figure out her school and her code? How on earth are they going to figure out exactly which girl is princesspeach unless her name is princess or peach! Peach - you should still go in with an open mind! You may be the girl that the lower ranked chapter's need to help them get back on the right foot and change things for the better. Besides you never know where your "home" is!

Also, struggling chapters often get untrue rumors of hazing thrown at them when that is not the case AT ALL. If you want to know whether or not they are on social probation, the Greek life director should be able to tell you. |

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=87009 http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=79458 I'm going to assume you're new. That said, don't assume, even for one second, that GC is anonymous. |

On GC, she has referred to her regional area, the size of her school, the number of sororities on campus, named one in particular, her class status, clues about her gpa and extra curricular activities, and some potentially identifying info about the chapters that someone on that campus might be able to connect. The problem is that she has posted admittedly preconceived notions on the chapters. If you were in one of those chapters that she has identified as "known for partying and bad grades", "struggling", "stuck-up", without her even have gone through rush yet, what would you think? Like it said, her post screams that she isn't going in open minded. And that's too bad. |

It happens. You may not be stalkerish or clever enough to put the pieces together, but others on this board have proved otherwise time and time again. |

As we all know, she is setting herself for some serious disappointment. Advice was given to her, she stayed online for sometime longer, and then she signed off without a single edit. She should be grateful that no one has QFPd... yet! |
I also rushed as a sophomore. Sure, you have pre-conceived ideas from having lived on campus for a year, but what you have to remember is that each chapter is made up of individuals. Even if a group is known to be "partiers," there are going to be girls in the house who don't drink. You may talk to someone the first day that is quiet and shy, and the next day meet someone who is very outgoing. The women of XYZ are not clones - they're people who have different personalities, values, and goals. You're doing yourself a dis-service and severely limiting your options if you make your choices based on stereotypes. Consider the people, NOT the stereotype!

Whoa!
Calm down guys. Thanks so much for your advice and concern. I have taken plenty of precautions to prevent anybody from figuring out what school I go to. Yes, I am new but I have been lurking for a while and have read several threads about this. I realize that my opinions will quickly change once I have actually visited the houses, and that's precisely why I posted my feelings now- I wanted to be able to express the whole process I am going through. I do not intend to reveal my state, school or the names of its sororities to anyone now or after rush, not even through PM.
I would like to continue to post my story, throughout rush, unless you don't want to hear it. |
I think that everyone is just concerned about your admitted preconceived notions and ranking pre-recruitment and how it might harm you in the end. Also, I think that I have a pretty good guess as to your univesity (I'll keep it to myself) and am familiar enough with some of the chapters that it wouldn't be too hard for the active members at university to figure out which chapter you have coded them as. The GC is just concerned that if someone does put 2 and 2 together, your outcome might not be what you anticipate. We're just looking out for your best interest. I'd recommend keeping notes and maybe not posting any further until mid-September.
|
Kansascity, thanks for your concern. With all due respect however, because of the precautions I have taken I seriously doubt that you or anyone else could guess my school.

I lied about my school's rush dates. I lied about geographic location. I even lied about some of the sororities.
Thanks a lot, OTW, for undermining my intelligence. |

Actually, I you're undermining the intelligence of the members here. |

Not a problem. ;)

Also if you have no intention of ever saying what school you are a member of XYZ sorority at if you get a bid then why bother telling us. You admitted you have lied about basically every detail of your story so when you come back and tell us your a proud new member of XYZ but wont say where why should we believe you, be happy for you or even care???? |
I only type this out of concern and hope for your sake that members (however many chapters there are or aren't) at your university (wherever that is or isn't) do not discover your identity (whatever it is or isn't). If you are willing to lie to complete strangers on a chat board, I'm not sure what you might say to impress those you meet this week (next week, last week, whenever). Good luck whoever you are.
|
Aw, man, I get busy for a few days, come back to catch up, and no one QFPd this classic trainwreck-to-be???!?!?! Come on, ladies, I expected more from all of you! ;)
OP, you're either a (bad) perp, or a sadly misguided rushee that is probably headed for disappointment. And you won't get sympathy here if you're being a jerk to the people who started out trying to help you on top of it all. |
Let it run its course.
|
My faith is restored! Thank you!
LOL at the "ranking" before she's set foot in a house. Already planning to suicide, it looks like? Smart plan. I'll be honest, princesspeach, having read your intro and now having read your "write up" of the houses, I don't think you're a fit for greek life. Check out the student life office for clubs and intramurals and enjoy the rest of your time in college, it goes by fast. |

I agree with this totally! |
bummer.... I missed some of it before it was deleted!

you did not miss much^^
