Any fratty colleges outside of south?

Do you guys know if there are any real fratty colleges outside of the south...

I'm talking Polos, Vineyard Vines, Sperrys, and koozies hahah.

Just wondering, Thanks

Elephant Walk 08-28-2008 02:33 PM

No.

But you could search for it because there's been a ton of topics on this.

Also, I didn't know koozies were fratty?

ForeverRoses 08-28-2008 02:34 PM

not Fratty, but there are some with just a big, crazy Greek systems. They simply have their own Northern or Midwestern or West Coast, etc, personalities. One I can think of off the top of my head is Michigan--big Greek system and Greek population. lol, we definitely do things differently in the South, though.

TheOSU is not fratty. Yes, there are a lot of fraternities, but far from fratty.
ADPiMel is spot-on to include Miami

KSUViolet06 08-29-2008 03:12 PM

Miami of Ohio = the fratty institution of Ohio. I bowed to the frattiness of my MU friends.

Still trying to figure out Fratty!

Is it just wearing certain clothing?

Or is it being in a certain mind set?

If it is a mind set then can you please explain a bit more!:)

I guess I am not used to this type of feelings!

Agreed. Southwestern Ohio is more "south" in ways that go beyond geographics. It's very conservative unlike the rest of Ohio

There were more Chicago girls in my chapter than any other hometown. Something like 40 girls out of a ~150 member chapter -- more than Cincinnati, Cleveland or Columbus.

As long as you put a fence around it and don't step foot in the surrounding town.

dpc1192 09-03-2008 12:41 AM

My cousin went to Denison and it seems like it had that southern frat atmosphere, but is too small for me...

Bucknell looks interesting, anything else?

Denison is a lot more liberal than you think. It draws heavily from the Northeast. But, it is small(ish) and one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever been to

I will agree that miami is pretty fratty, and purdue is as well. i would also say virginia is.

Virginia isn't in the South, then?

BlueCarnation 08-02-2009 05:14 PM

Union and Colgate, both in upstate NY? They used to be, at least.

WinniBug 08-02-2009 05:34 PM

I don't understand the use of "fratty" as an adjective. :-(

I have never really thought of virginia as being in the south myself, yes it is south of the mason-dixon line, and it has a lot of southern features. I would only call it south if you referred to bama, AR, LA, Miss, and Ga as deep south.

Which is what Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia and South Carolina are -- the Deep South. Sections of northern Virginia and Hampton Roads notwithstanding, Virginia -- the home of Robert E. Lee and of the White House of the Confederacy, of Monument Avenue, of Washington and Lee University -- is most certainly the South. ;)
