Florida State University Fall Rush "08"

FSU's rush began Monday at 5:00. My daughter had a really great time at the first 5 houses. They will visit the remaining 10 houses Tuesday. just hope the storm doesn't cause too much rain.

baci 08-19-2008 06:41 AM

I have been waiting to hear more about FSU. Please try and keep us posted!

angelove 08-19-2008 10:31 AM

Good luck to your daughter and GO NOLES!

PenguinTrax 08-19-2008 01:02 PM

A good friend's daughter is a PNM at FSU this week, too. I'll post when I hear news. So far today the weather is sunny, hot and humid.

dymonz4me 08-19-2008 01:03 PM

Thank you. I'll keep you informed as my daughter calls and gives me updates. I have butterflies in my tummy!! She visited 5 houses last night and had a really good time..The ladies were nice and the conversations were very easy..She's so excited. She also has several friends rushing with her, so I hope everything turns out great for all of them..

baci 08-19-2008 01:13 PM

I am wishing your daughter great success. Please stay in touch!

dymonz4me 08-19-2008 08:18 PM

Just got my phone call, everything went great today. The sun was out and shining..NO RAIN TODAY!! Thank goodness. My daughter made her 11 choices, hopefully they will all want her back too. She said that it's going to be really hard to choose each time because all of the young ladies have been so sweet and the conversations are still flowing..Still have the butterflies in my tummy..She has to meet her Rho Gamma at 9:30 to get the day started..

baci 08-20-2008 05:53 AM

Very excited- I may have butterflies with you!

texas*princess 08-20-2008 09:50 AM

if this is going to be a recruitment story maybe it should go in the recruitment story subforum.

FSMOM 08-20-2008 03:54 PM

Wish you and your daughter the best...I was in your shoes two years ago, and know the anxiety and excitement you and your daughter are experiencing. Tell your daughter to have an open mind about each and every one of the houses @ FSU - according to my daughter, they are all good, and there is a fit for every girl. My daughter said the number of PNMs this year is down - a better chance for your daughter to find a house that fits for her. Good luck and let us know how the story ends...

dymonz4me 08-20-2008 03:56 PM

My daughter was invited back to 6 houses, her friend who is a legacy was invited to 10, and her friends who are twins were invited back to 8 (but with mixed schedules), and her other friend has 7 houses. She told me that quiet a few girls have dropped out for some reason or another. There hasn't been a lot of tent talk as far as she knows. She has made a connection with 3 houses so far and would love being in any of the three, she still has two more houses to visit tomorrow. I told her to go with her heart and where she feels comfortable and connected. The weather has been just fine today also..

dymonz4me 08-20-2008 03:58 PM

Thank You FSMOM!!

Did she say if the twins definitely want to pledge the same place, def want to pledge different places, or are just open to whatever happens?

dymonz4me 08-20-2008 05:13 PM

The identical twins are very close, but have different interest and are open to going to different houses. One of the twins and my daughter have very similar schedules for today and tomorrow, but she did visit one house with the other twin today.

Ranking houses is not discussed on GreekChat.

The best house is the house that the PNM feels most comfortable in.

OP,
Even though you are getting a Fratty Rank, it's about as good as Tent Talk. Go through recruitment with an open mind and don't allow outside influences to sway your experience.

MamaNole 08-20-2008 08:10 PM

Hi dymonz (I just love your name, btw!),

My daughter is also participating in this year's recruitment at FSU. I just LOVE getting the 'daily update' calls! She's been invited back to 8 houses for the Philanthropy Days - she had 6 today and has 2 tomorrow.

She's having a blast - and I'm so excited for her!

Good luck to your daughter - may she find the perfect house for her!

baci 08-20-2008 08:56 PM

please continue to update us about your daughters!

Thank you so very much..wishing your daughter lots-of-luck also. My daughter said that it has been a good experience for her as well. She has met so many wonderful young ladies. She's hoping to find a home away from home too..She has recs for 4 out of the 6 houses that she has invites to. As for the phone calls..OMG..the butterflies start going crazy..then after I hear the joy and happiness in her voice..all is well..again..until...the next call...Well til tomorrow..take care and have a good nights sleep..ha ha

FlaGirl07 08-20-2008 10:51 PM

looks like the girls are going to get rained on tomorrow, that stinks!

barbino 08-20-2008 11:03 PM

Good Luck to your daughter, and hopefully she has an umbrella tomorrow. It's hard enough going to all those houses without having to worry about being out in the rain, too. :)

FlaGirl07 08-20-2008 11:08 PM

i talked to some girls today, and they informed me that they get bright yellow ponchos for the rain. stylish!

PhiGam 08-21-2008 05:30 AM

White T shirt day?

recruitment is going great for me so far, met so many great young ladies and it's been an awesome experience for me! hoopefully i'll have a good schedule tomorrow without too many cuts. wish me luck!

baci 08-21-2008 08:26 PM

Keep us posted on your journey!

FlaGirl07 08-21-2008 10:33 PM

Parties for Skit tomorrow have been bumped up to 9am, and Pref are bumped later to 4pm on Saturday.

We have to be there at 7am....

ShabbyChic 08-22-2008 04:14 AM

Good luck FSU PNMS! They have some great chapters :)

mara1023 08-22-2008 12:20 PM

my daughter is a new rushee...she called me in tears because she was devastated to have been dropped by three houses that she liked. One particular house was her sister's best friend's house. She still has houses that she likes but is getting very nervous. She is a legacy at one house but wants to make sure they are taking her because they like her and not because she is a legacy. I think the legacy house is actually her favorite. I told her if they didn't like her they would have dropped her.

Legacies aren't guaranteed bids. So if her legacy house extends her a bid, it's because they like her, not because she's a legacy.

yehornay 08-22-2008 01:14 PM

Wow, time flies. To think I was one of these nervous moms just four years ago! Now, I am like the little match girl, peeking through the window, because my baby girl is now graduated and working her first big girl job.

I was telling another mom yesterday that she should try to attend the line dance competition in the Spring. It is so much fun to watch all the different houses cheer each other on. Some really talented girls out there!

Most of these sororities have over 100 legacies come through rush.

Yup, that's the truth. There are way too many legacies going through Recruitment these days. Chapters cannot take them all, so if a legacy gets a bid, it's because they want HER.

PenguinTrax 08-22-2008 02:02 PM

The PMN I'm 'watching' at FSU is really enjoying herself and has five houses she's really thrilled with. I'm not sure how many invites she had for Philanthropy Round, and I'm waiting to see how things go for Skit Round today.

AnchorAlum 08-22-2008 10:14 PM

I know the weather in Tally is horrendous, because I'm still going through it in Jacksonville!

Were the parties shortened or re-scheduled?

My daughter said that they began everything today a lot earlier than previously scheduled. She also told me that tomorrow they will begin I think about two hours later than previously scheduled, so I think everything will start around 4:30. She didn't say anything about parties being shortened or re-scheduled.
