UCF Recruitment Story '08
 

So as you can see, I go to the University of Central Florida. I have been reading everyone's stories for a while now and it is finally my turn to share! :)

I am going to be a freshman at UCF. I already attended summer session so I know the school and campus pretty well. We move in to our rooms on Sunday. I am anxiously awaiting recruitment, which starts on Monday. If this hurricane "Fay" messes it up I am going to be a little annoyed!! :D

Just like any school, there are "rumors" and "stereotypes" for each sorority, but I am going in with an open mind. I am really eager to find a sorority that I feel I belong in and also feel comfortable in.

There are ten sororities at UCF-

Kappa Kappa Gamma
Kappa Delta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Chi Omega
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Zeta Tau Alpha
Alpha Delta Pi
Pi Phi Beta
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Delta Delta

I'm going to name them after my favorite designers : (In different order)

Fendi
Prada (I have a rec for this sorority)
Betsey Johnson
Louis Vuitton
Jimmy Choo
Marc Jacobs
Versace
Chanel (I have a rec for this sorority)
Burberry
Gucci

Greek Forum is Monday night, and actual recruitment starts Tuesday with "UCF Day". Bid Day is Saturday! Wish me luck! I will update either Monday or Tuesday night! I am SOOO nervous! But excited as well!!!! :)

You might want to delay your story until Recruitment is over. Many Actives are on this board, and stories have cut some UCF PNMs in the past.

I agree with Benzgirl. While I would love to hear your story "live", I would hate for it to ruin your Recruitment. If you do decide to continue a "live" story please be careful about revealing too many details.

as much i would love to read your story in real time, benzgirl makes a good suggestion. you could write your thoughts in word each day and then post after bid day. but please do post!!

Recruitment for her doesn't start until Monday, I doubt there would be any news.

:(Public Schools will be closed here in Central Florida tomorrow because of Tropical Storm Fay. How is this impacting recruitment week at UCf?

Yeah, I got an e-mail from one of our alum advisors - UCF pushed back the start of formal recruitment and will begin on Aug. 20.

Don't we just love florida and hurricanes? It was rough to have a first day of school for public schools and now having reteach the schedule and routines for all the students again.

And people complain there is too much snow in the North. Trust me, I will sit through a snowstorm over a hurricane any day.

Yeah, at least the snow is pretty to look at!!!

Recruitment was delayed by one day at UCF. The girls should be finishing with the first round of parties now. It poured at the end of the day. From what I understand, the girls going from the 8th , 9th, and 10th parties might have been soaked.

Day 2 Postponed
 

Philanthropy Day (Day 2) has been postponed until TBA due to the rain/Fay.

UCF Panhellenic is hosting an emergency meeting at 3 PM to determine the schedule for the rest of the week.

Speculations on possible solutions include

• Holding Philanthropy Day and Video Day in the same day (tomorrow) with Prefs on Saturday, Bid Day on Sunday
• Philanthropy Day tomorrow, Video Day and Pref Day on Saturday, Bid Day on Sunday
• Philanthropy Day tomorrow, Video Day on Satuday, Pref Day early Sunday morning with Bid Day Sunday afternoon

Wow, that's pretty tough. You have to allow the chapters time for membership selection and set up (how frilly is UCF?), and it would seem like they'd need the least time after pref, so option #3 would seem like the best. However, depending on what the chapters have planned for bid day (ie. if they booked a place to celebrate for a certain time), it might not be the best option.

Hi everyone. This is UCFgirl12. I forgot my password, I had just created a new email for this account, so I forgot that password too. You could say i'm a little unorganized!!! I ended up having to make a new one! So i'm back :)

We have only been through one day of recruitment. UCF day was supposed to be on Tuesday, but was moved to Wednesday. Philanthropy Day was supposed to be today, but now they have moved it tomorrow at 1:45 PM because of FAY!!!

UCF Day (yesterday) was windy and we had rain almost the entire day. For the last two hours, it was pouring! I was FREEZING!!! Regardless of the weather, I am really glad I decided to go through recruitment. A lot of the things I have read on Greek Chat helped me. One thing I have to say is that it was SOOO overwhelming! At Greek Forum, we were told that there were almost 1000 girls going through recruitment. That made me very nervous but I tried to not let it get to me while going to each house. I did my best!! :D I am not going to write much about each house, but I will give you some details !

I decided to tell about the chapters after recruitment is done, thanks to some helpful advice :)

I will update tomorrow. We can go to up to 8 houses !!!!

So they put Philanthropy Knight and Video Knight together tomorrow. Pref Knight is Saturday and Bid Day is Sunday. We can now go to up to 7 houses instead of 8 tomorrow and stay at each for about an hour.. I am really nervous. I hope I am invited back to houses......UGHHHHHHHHH. I can hardly concentrate!!! Fay doesn't look like its going anywhere, so that's kind of annoying lol. I'll definitely update tomorrow!! :)

Hi everyone!! I will be sharing my story tomorrow (bid day) but i just wanted to let you know that i was invited back to the max number of houses yesterday (7)!! it was so hard going from 7 houses to 3. Today Pref starts at 2..wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a longtime lurker here. My daughter is a freshman at UCF currently undergoing recruitment. She went in with an open mind and knew nothing about the ten sororities at UCF. The second/third round (they combined them due to tropical storm Fay cancelling two rush days) she was invited to and attended 4 parties (out of a possible 7). She liked all of them but loved her top two. Yesterday, for Prefs, she was asked to attend two parties. These were her third and four choices (based on the vibes she got the day before) but she was happy to attend and had a wonderful time. Last night she called me gushing with enthusiasm for one of the chapters. She completely "connected" with the girl that she hung out with. So much so that she is wishing that she would be her Big sister. She was not enthused about the second party/chapter at all and told me that if she didn't get the BID to the first chapter, she will NOT be in a sorority. I got goosebumps listening to her gush about sorority A, and now I will be anxious all day for her. Today at 11:45AM she has to report for BID day. My fingers are crossed. I hope that it is meant to be!

BTW, her older sister is a Sigma Kappa at another school but there is no SK chapter at UCF.

Thank you for posting about UCF recruitment - the boards have been very quiet about all the Florida recruitments. Do you know how many girls went through recruitment at UCF? Any word what quota is? (should have been decided based on Preference). I hope your daughter gets her first choice!

About a thousand girls started recruitment at UCF but many have dropped out at this point (I am sure the lousy weather didn't help things). I wish that I knew what quota is but I don't. Thanks for the good wishes. I will post later today with my daughter's result. My daughter's summer session roommates BOTH dropped out after prefs last nite (they weren't happy with their choices). One of her current roommates (a sophomore) also dropped out last nite for the same reason.
My elder daughter is soooo happy to be on the other side of recruitment but she did say that is was also stressful and time consuming on her end.
