Aaliyah killed in a plane crash???!!!!

Folks it has been reported that Aaliyah along with about 8-10 others were killed in a plane crash leaving from the Bahamas. I am in utter disbelief. I think she was one of the most grounded artists. I loved all of her songs. I just can't believe it!!! Before I continue to ramble, I will just end it here by saying may they all rest in peace!!orange-red

Miss. Mocha 08-26-2001 02:10 AM

Ipurple

I find this so hard to believe. I haven't seen anything on the news, has anyoone else?

Man, and I was just dogging her CD. Talk about sureal.

Alias_01 08-26-2001 02:38 AM

This is truly a sad day. I can't believe that a young women so talented and so beautiful has passed. I send all of condolences to her family. Aaliyah was one of my favorite artists and she was truly one in a million.

exquizit 08-26-2001 02:55 AM

I really couldn't believe it!

One of my Sfs Posted this on another board, so i checked MTV where "you " *supposedly*"hear it first"
There was [B]NOTHING!!
I honestly had to watch CNN for a while to get the whole story. As it turns out the pilot complained of to much baggage weight and the passengers insisted that they take everything.

This is a prime example that life is indeed too short. This young talented beautiful woman died at 22:(

CrimsonTide4 08-26-2001 03:01 AM

I am really feeling sad. They announced it tonight while I was out at the club. It totally changed my mood. Ironically, this evening I kept playing "Come Back in One Piece" by her and DMX.

Wonderful1908 08-26-2001 03:03 AM

I usually dont connect to famous people dying, but I truly can't believe this young lady has died. I just watched her on MTV's Diary the other day. I will pray for her family.

librasoul22 08-26-2001 03:20 AM

Y'all this is too sad. I feel you, Wonderful1908...I don't usually connect with famous people dying either, but for some reason this is different. :( :( :(

AKA2D '91 08-26-2001 04:34 AM

I just heard it a couple of hours ago. I am SOOOOOOO SHOCKED! There is ONE survivor as of now.(He passed away early this morning) :(

I saw that MTV diary...she said that she was very happy doing what she was doing and wanted to enjoy every minute of her success.

What a tremendous loss. What really hits home is that she was SOOOOOO young. You can name countless people that should have been in her place. Those that are out there doing "no good", etc.

I'm still shocked.

Prayers to ALL the families involved.

AKA2D '91 08-26-2001 04:57 AM

Info I've received from other sites...

RUMOR: R. Kelly was also in the Bahamas and had taken an earlier flight out...

Timberland and Damon Dash are still in the Bahamas

Director Hype Williams was not on the plane

Serenity 08-26-2001 07:34 AM

This is so horrible. I just watched her "Diary" too. I am not a fan, but I was really digging her as a person when I watched the show. I'm really in shock. I JUST found out on MTV like ten seconds ago. I'm sitting here looking at the TV but I still can't believe this. My students are going to be so sad. Things like this really affect them. I'm having such a jumble of thoughts right now. I can't believe this. I really can't. Oh man... :(

CrimsonTide4 08-26-2001 07:45 AM

My Thoughts

Ok after having slept on it, I realize this:

Well first when the DJ announced it he prefaced it by saying "An up and coming artist" so I really was all set to hear someone who just started like Blu or Alicia or India or Jill or someone who is new. I really was blown away by it being Aaliyah.

I had both of her CDs and really could see her being a lifer in the music business.

I feel saddened by her death because she is the same age as my cousin and brother and I often worry about them when they are out late.

I think this hits people because we are caring and loving, we hate to see anyone suffer, and she was a "good" talent.

ZChi4Life 08-26-2001 08:40 AM

hello everyone,
I know i haven't been on here in a while. But I knew I could come here and post my feelings about Aaliyah. This has really hit home for me. Aaliyah is a native of my hometown, Detroit and we will truly miss one of our own. Although I don't know her personally, I feel that through her music, I have gotten to know her. That sounds weird, but I have. She has inspired me in so many ways. I too was out Sat night at the club and heard about the news on the radio on the way home. Thank God I had made it to my apt complex b/c as soon as I heard, I stopped my car right in the middle of the street. I just can't believe this. Things like this just truly make you think about how precious life is and how quickly it can be taken away. But we all should realize that God has his reasons for doing what He does. And although we felt it was not her time to go, God says that it is. My prayers go out to her family and to all the other families of the others that have passed.

I read one website and it said that the plane had engine failure. It didn't say if it was related to there being too much luggage on board or not.
If you have not gone to Aaliyah's website, please do so. It is fabulous! They have already posted a comment on there about her death. Aaliyah's Site

Ania 08-26-2001 09:31 AM

I was just reading not to long ago that she just finished one movie called something to the effect, "Queen of the Damned," she was about to start Matrix II, was talking to another company about features in another movie.

She was so young and just really hit the top of the peak with Romeo Must Die and so many new projects. It is always sad whenever such a young, positive, striving person leaves us this way.

One thing is for sure, she was very happy with her personal and proffessional life. At least she was doing what made her happy, she was living the life that SHE WANTED TO LIVE.

AKAtude 08-26-2001 09:41 AM

I heard it a few minutes ago on the "Today" show on NBC. Then, I logged on to make sure I heard the reporter correctly. Sure enough, there is an article on www.usatoday.com. I couldn't believe it. I usally don't connect to celebrities like that, but because of her youth it really hit me. I'm just in shock.

novella000 08-26-2001 09:42 AM

MTV had an article.... it was just hard to see

MTV's article

I can tell she was a sweet girl. She had such a promising career...

Soulful Soror 08-26-2001 10:47 AM

I can't believe this! I first saw this posted on a private listserv & was like "THAT'S NOT TRUE!" Then, when I went to Yahoo! I got an instant headache. My God! Well, I pray that she is in the Hands of The Father, & I pray that He will comfort & hold up her family, friends, and fans who are sure to be affected by this loss (as is evident by this thread). I also pray the same prayer for the others that were lost or injured along with Aaliyah. She will truly be missed.

PinkIvy 08-26-2001 11:10 AM

Soror, Sisterfriends, and others. . .

Please keep Aaliyah's family and friends in your prayers, they are going through a hard time right now and need all the strength they can possibly have to get through this. I just recieved word this morning about the crash and I am on my way home back to Detroit in the morning. She was a very sweet person to know. She will be truley missed by all.

AKA2D '91 08-26-2001 11:59 AM

If I'm not mistaken when she was on TRL to support the latest CD, she mentioned that they had finished the Matrix 2 and was going to start shooting the Matrix 3, or had done so.

She was slated to play Sparkle in the remake of the movie, Sparkle.

novella000 08-26-2001 12:26 PM

"Aaliyah will return to Australia to play the character Zee in sequels to "The Matrix" sometime this month, though she is not scheduled to film her scenes until mid-April. She'll likely be on the set until early summer.
"Queen of the Damned" should be out by October, while "The Matrix 2" is due in the summer of 2002."

fuji 08-26-2001 01:26 PM

Wow I can't believe it. I saw it on MTV a couple a minutes ago. The plane was in horrible shape. I am such a big fan of hers! I just bought her new cd a couple of weeks ago and I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet. I work at an electronic store that sells music and we have a loop tape that shows various of videos, and one of the videos is Aaliyah's "We need a Resolution". It is going to be hard to look at that video. Dang, I really can't believe it. She is just a year older than me and it seems as though I have known her for years. This should show everyone that we should not take our lives and loved ones for granted. Aaliyah will be missed :( .

kell1gs 08-26-2001 02:57 PM

daym

All i can say is daymn... i'd been followin the progress of the Queen of the Damned project, which is a sequel to Interview with a Vampire for thoes who never heard of it, maaaaan this is just a sad sad thing and my prayers go out to her family and loved ones because sudden deaths are terrible to deal with, and her death is a tragedy in itself, she had so much potential she was just beginning to turn up her exponential curve of success, holdin down so many big projects/roles at the same time... daym:(

Diva7401 08-26-2001 04:39 PM

Such a sad day.
I was reading my old JET magazines all day yesterday, I fell asleep last night in the middle of the one with Aaliyah on the cover. I could not believe it when I heard the terrible news this morning. How Ironic? I wish her family and friends much strength as they mourn the loss of this star that was taken much too soon.

tickledpink 08-26-2001 05:02 PM

So Sad. I was shocked when they announced it in church today. She was so brilliant (4.0 student), so talented, and so beautiful. This is proof that you just never know when your time will come. I truly pray that she is with the Father. I also pray for peace & for her family. :(

PrettyPetite 08-26-2001 06:01 PM

this whole thing is just so shocking to me...I remember last night watching the 10 pm news, and they reported a plane going down off of Abaco Island(I live in south florida)...the idea of Aaliyah being on the plane was the furthest thing from my mind. It just made me realize how life can be snatched from you at any given moment...and that we are all here for a purpose.

My condolences go to the families of all who were on board.:(

DreamfulOne 08-26-2001 06:23 PM

This is definitely sad to hear....I remember when Aaliyah first came out and I was definitely a huge fan of hers....however a few years ago I stopped listening to secular music so I really am not up-to-date- with the latest hits....I'm praying that her family be at peace as well as those who were accompanying her families.

May His peace be with you till we meet again

showstopper_1908 08-27-2001 12:13 AM

Like many of you here, I was a huge fan of hers. Been there since the begining. I have been hearing rumors about her newest album comming out since 1998, and I was so happy when she finally came back on the scene. But now this...I don't think I have any words about it except that this feels like a personal loss, as odd as that sounds. I've only met her once and she was extremely sweet, but she was a huge inspiration to me as far as the entertainment business goes. Condolences to the families of everyone on the flight. :(

SFactor 08-27-2001 10:17 AM

For we know not the day nor the hour......that He will return for us!!

We are only gifts from God and to Him must we return for judgment.

My prayers are for all the families who lost a loved one on that airplane.

We can give all reasons and make all excuses as to why people don't need to die - But when GOD calls you - the question is.... will you be ready??

Death shows no discrmination to age, race, color or religion and everyone has a reservation without the privilege of cancellation!!

I am not saying this to be harsh - but to put in reality.....it's a part of life. It is a part of life that we know that has to happen and no one and I mean NO ONE is immuned from the feeling of a loss. But I can truly say - He will not put more on us than we can bear -For one day I too will trade this lifetime for just one day in Paradise!!

Nice1 08-27-2001 10:48 AM

This is a shame, and I so enjoyed seeing her on Diary on MTV. Someone told me, bad things always seem to happen when someone begins documenting anothers life. But, she did say she has accomplished everything she wanted and is enjoying life now. So I figure she has done her duty on earth and it was now her time. :( .

And you know what?

I was thinking this reminds about the movie "Final Destination"... remember the guy on Aaliyah's plane that survived but later died as he was waiting to be trasported. The same thing kinda happend in that movie. I guess when it's your time, it's your time.

Ideal08 08-27-2001 12:00 PM

funny you should say that...

I was thinking about the same movie. I was wondering if Missy and whoever else was on the island for the shoot were supposed to be on the plane. That movie was disturbing, to say the least, but it was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard that they were all down there.

This is the second celebrity death to affect me this way (2pac being the first). I have been in a blue mood since the club Saturday night. It really is unbelievable. So young, so pretty, so talented. *sigh* It's just so sad. I was a fan of hers. She was just coming into her own, y'know, modeling, acting. More than just singing. It is just so sad.

It made me be completely honest with those people around me with whom I hide my feelings. Life is too short. Too short. :(

lovele1978 08-27-2001 12:06 PM

I still can't believe it. Life truely is short. We just have to be grateful of everyday that God allows us on this earth. I'm just glad that her brother wasn't with her, I know that they were really tight. I guess all we can do now is remember her for the person she was and send many prayers to her family and close friends. :(

princessbee21 08-27-2001 02:29 PM

This is a really, really sad situation. I feel like the others who said that they usually don't feel too much when a celebrity dies, but for me this was a little different. It was so surreal. I just got finished watching her on Diary, and was thinking that she seemed like such a sweet and nice person to know...it seems that anyone that knew her was truly blessed....

DreamfulOne 08-27-2001 05:30 PM

For those interested
BET will be doing a tribute to Aaliyah at 6:00 and 11:00 EST

TotallyBlessed 08-27-2001 06:30 PM

"Charm can fool you, and beauty can trick you, but a woman who repects the Lord should be praised" Proverbs 31:30

I was watching Aaliyah's diary on MTV today and I thought of this scripture when Aaliyah stated that she had God to thank for all her happiness and Blessings. Aaliyah was a very talented young lady who will truely be missed. Her family and friends will continue to be in my prays.

AKA2D '91 08-27-2001 07:21 PM

I thought about Final Destination yesterday ;).

Just in from BET: It is reported that Aaliyah was not supposed to have been on that plane. Minutes before she was to leave, she changed plans. She chartered the Cessna instead.

You know early Sunday morning when the first posts here were made. It was questioned why there wasn't too much coverage. This morning on Tom Joyner, the crew said that the reason why there was little coverage was because the "mainstream" media didn't really know who she was OR how to pronounce her name. They said that the majority of OUR reporters were in Orlando for the NABJ (Nat'l Assoc. of Black Journalist) convention. Therefore, the very people who would have had the information ready to release to the public was not available.

AKA2D '91 08-28-2001 07:20 AM

Okay, did anyone see BET Tonight last night?

The show featured Aaliyah's friend/choreographer, Fatima who was in the Bahamas, her uncle/manager Barry Hankerson via phone and Angie Stone.

DMX read a poem via phone he wrote for her from him and his wife, then broke down and weeped. This guy, a BET producer, who was supposed to be on the plane that was filming background footage for BET was also present. It was something else.

The latest video was not on the plane. MTV said this morning that the record label doesn't know if it will be released. She has made 2 videos that haven't been released.

:( :(

Oh, Fatima said that her mother, Diane was supposed to go on the trip, too. Instead, that guy Mr. Wallace, I think was his name went in her place. :( :(

tickledpink 08-28-2001 10:37 AM

I saw that. Also, did you see the guy that was supposed to be on the plane, but his itinerary was changed at the last minute by Gina?

I saw the diary that played yesterday, as well as both BET tributes. The thing that stands out is Aaliyah stating on several occasions how blessed she was, and how she thanked God everyday. Plus, the people that she touched were just like she was such a sweet spirit, sweet inside and out. I'm grateful that God allowed us to experience her.

Death of a AKA

FYI

Good morning ladies. I live in Dallas and have been following the information about the awful crash that claimed 9 lives. I did not know if any of you were aware, but one of those nine was one of your sorority members.

Dallas Morning News:
"Ms. Gina Nicolle Smith graduated in 1993 with a marketing degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she had joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She was a 1989 honors graduate of Southwest High School in Fort Worth, where her activities included homemaking and the school chorus. "

Star has gone buc wild!

Well, here there's been some controversy over an ignant @$$ dj from Hot 97! Star from the morning show played some horrible sound effects of a woman screaming & a loud crash...trying to get a laugh (he says)??...about what??...Aaliyah's death??!!! I can't believe that the thought would even enter his mind, let alone he actually do THAT!!!??? Miss Jones walked out, apparently! What's wrong with him??? I hope that Timbaland, DMX, Jay-Z, Damon Dash, R Kelley, Ginuine, Magoo, Jet Li, & whoever else kicks his @$$ next time he goes to a hiphop function!!!

Anyways, I don't know if I'm alone in this, but several times since Sunday I've felt the urge to cry...however, I've fought those tears b/c of this nagging feeling that I don't have the right to cry...what is that? No, I didn't know her & no, she didn't know me...but, I just feel so blah...when I wake up, I feel that weight of "somebody died"....So, she WAS special indeed. Next time I get the urge, I'll let myself cry.:(

PrettyPetite 08-29-2001 12:56 AM

Just thought I'd share...

My local newspaper did an article on the pilot. Turns out it was his first official day on the job. It also seems as if he was another kind soul.
