What's the story behind your SN?

Soooo....I only see one other really old thread about this, but it's in one of the specific forums. What's the story behind your GC name? :) Even if it looks obvious, are there any interesting stories behind it? Is there another user you'd like to ask about their interesting name?

LucyKKG 08-14-2008 02:51 AM

Well, I'm a Kappa, so that explains that part. Lucy is my dog's name. :p My name would make it look like KKK.

Elephant Walk 08-14-2008 03:02 AM

I realized that GreekChat was mostly filled with those who are prejudiced anti-hazers and so I named myself after the most offensive hazing act to date (in my opinion).

knight_shadow 08-14-2008 03:07 AM

Knight Shadow was my knight name (we have line names and knight names). My big gave a description on what it meant, and it's kind of stuck with me through the years.

PANTHERTEKE 08-14-2008 04:18 AM

My school's mascot is the Golden Panther, and I'm a Teke.. Sooo..

RaggedyAnn 08-14-2008 07:33 AM

RaggedyAnn is an ASA unofficial mascot.

ThetaPrincess24 08-14-2008 08:01 AM

because I'm Theta, a princess, and I was 24 when I first came here.

Senusret I 08-14-2008 08:07 AM

Senusret I

Loosely related to my fraternity and strongly reflects my own life and aspirations.

Kevin 08-14-2008 08:23 AM

I lack creativity.

KSigkid 08-14-2008 08:47 AM

I'm a Kappa Sig, and I was only 19 (kind of a kid) when I started posting on here. That's about it - nothing too deep or interesting.

SWTXBelle 08-14-2008 09:44 AM

SWTX = Southwest Texas, which was a part of the name of my university when my parents went there (Southwest Texas State College), and when I was there (my diploma says Southwest Texas State University). Thanks to the athletic department, "they" changed the name to Texas State University, which is where my daughter is going. I'm still a little bitter about the way it was all handled, so SWTX.

Belle - my nickname when I lived in NEW JERSEY and they thought I had a southern accent. I don't have an accent - y'all do!
I did historical re-enacting, and spent some time portraying a resident of occupied New Orleans - used the name Belle. Also, I'm a proud southerner, a graduate of a charm school (!) , and currently write a column that is often concerned with things southern. When Beauty and the Beast came out the nickname was cemented - I've always been a real bookworm.

chitownxo 08-14-2008 10:10 AM

I'm from Chicago (Chitown), and I'm a Chi Omega (XO). Not real creative, I know.

FlaGirl07 08-14-2008 10:23 AM

i live in florida, i'm a girl, and my fsu email has 07 at the end.

nikki1920 08-14-2008 10:30 AM

nikki1920

nikki- my nickname
1920 - year my sorority was founded.

complicated, I know. :p

AOII_LB93 08-14-2008 10:37 AM

Well, I'm an AOII, I pledged at Lambda Beta chapter (Long Beach State) in 1993. Super interesting.

NutBrnHair 08-14-2008 10:43 AM

Lil Nut Brown Hare

I love the children's book "Guess How Much I Love You" -- the little rabbit is named Lil Nut Brown Hare -- so I changed it to NutBrnHair (since I'm a brunette!).

One of my earliest posts. ;) It's hard to believe I've been married and out of college over 7 years! Still love the number 19, still have tons of panda stuff in my house, albeit in boxes or disguised as future baby room decor.

ISUKappa 08-14-2008 11:21 AM

Are you ready for this? You may need to take notes.

ISU = Iowa State University, where I went to college
Kappa = Kappa Kappa Gamma

LOL, yeah, pretty much why I didn't feel the need to post my "explanation".

ThetaDancer 08-14-2008 11:28 AM

Hahaha ISUKappa, I love your explanation.
My screenname is equally complex. I'm a Theta and a dancer.

socialite 08-14-2008 11:28 AM

When I first started getting super drunktaneous [which was more often than the average high-school bear] I always refered to myself as 'The Socialite' in third person and the nickname stuck between my very best friends and I.

Most people at my college don't really know about it, BUT 2 times this past year my beautiful alternate personality reared it ugly head and my friends had no idea what I was doing, so Socialite is fond memory for me...

LttleMsPrEp 08-14-2008 11:54 AM

My friends always wore those "Little Miss Sunshine shirts" and i brought one and X'd out the sunshine and put "prep" on it instead so it kinda just stuck as a nickname

MysticCat 08-14-2008 11:57 AM

In the first decade of the history of Phi Mu Alpha, an enigmatic black cat, known as the "Mystic Cat," became part of our lore. Our national magazine was first called "The Mystic Cat" (now "The Sinfonian"); the Mystic Cat appeared on the cover of our 1908, 1914 and 1931 songbooks, and for a while, new members were sometimes nicknamed "kittens." The lore and imagery of the Mystic Cat has enjoyed a revival in recent years.

There were also numerous songs and poems about the Mystic Cat, including this "Nonsense Song" from the 1914 Songbook:
The most mysterious mystery is our mighty Mystic Cat,
He prowls about our chapter rooms and waxes sleek and fat;
We wonder what and where he is, but all to no avail --
He's a mystery from his mystic nose to the tip of his mystic tail.

Does he only venture forth at night and shun the light of day?
Does he vanish like a spectre before the sun's first ray?
We never see his mystic form but while we watch and wait
We feel his mystic presence like some omen grim of Fate.

Oh, Mystic Cat, enigma dark, thou phantom of the night,
Reveal thyself unto our eyes in all thy mystic might.
Oh, sable-coated feline, Though thy form we never see,
We’ll worship at thy mystic feet for all eternity.
The funny thing, given his name, is that all these years later, no one really knows anything about the origin of the Mystic Cat. It was never written down. There are guesses, but it appropriately remains a "most mysterious mystery."

What's funny is whenever I see your name I think of polar bears not panda bears!

My name comes from a line in a song that was sung at preference "A rose ever blooming" switch it up and voila "ForeverRoses".

cuteASAbug 08-14-2008 01:05 PM

I'm cute as a bug. (Also very modest.)

catiebug 08-14-2008 01:35 PM

Catie is a nickname given to me a few years ago by someone very special to me who has since passed away. He used to call me his "catiebug."

VandalSquirrel 08-14-2008 01:42 PM

I don't go out in a squirrel costume and spray paint or set couches on fire, though I guess I could.

Vandal - University of Idaho mascot

Squirrel - Alpha Gam's treasured mascot

Jill1228 08-14-2008 01:46 PM

Mine is simply my first name and birthday 12/28

LPIDelta 08-14-2008 01:46 PM

LPI= Lovely Purple Iris (sorority flower)
Delta= At my alma mater, we're most simply know as "Deltas"

BabyPiNK_FL 08-14-2008 01:55 PM

BabyPink=my favorite color (not pepto pink, not hot pink, but baby pink-think baby blue but pink).

It is also representative of the color of the sorority I wanted to join (and eventually did) - Phi Mu's "rose".

FL is cos I'm from the greater Miami area.

Heh. I was thinking that too...
But I think the Mystic Cat thing is really cool! I love lore such as that. :D

But my name is pretty simple too...Pi Phi is pretty explanatory, the angel is Pi Phi's unofficial mascot, and 314 is my birthday (March 14). :D Pretty easy.

epchick 08-14-2008 02:30 PM

Let's see if I can effectively describe the intricasy (sp?) of my SN:

EP= El Paso
chick= cause i'm a girl.

Hopefully, you all understood. :D

LOL.

But to paraphrase Diane Chambers, I hate "Cats" with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns.

tinydancer 08-14-2008 02:44 PM

It's my favorite song in the world. Evidently, a couple of other people feel the same about it:p

AOII Angel 08-14-2008 02:50 PM

AOII- duh!
Angel- My name is Angela, and one of my attendings in residency called me his Angel.

NutBrnHair 08-14-2008 02:54 PM

Ha, that's new! Usually I've gotten pooh bear in the past. ;) I tried to come up with something when I signed up that wouldn't make everyone assume I am an AOII, but still reference panda, since I have such a huge collection of them.
