Why was the thread asking why LadyLonghorn's thread was moved moved?

Oh bow to the high and mighty mod's corner. So many (note, not all) mods talk so much crap in the mod's corner on everyone, but don't have the internet ballz to actually say anything in the public forums. Cowards.

That's one thing I really don't miss about the Mods' Corner.

If you think the shit talking is bad in the public forums...you should see what the mods really say the MC!

tld221 08-10-2008 03:53 PM

i didnt even want to chime in being that i missed the original thread, but seriously.

AlphaFrog 08-10-2008 03:57 PM

Not so much recently, since I'm not here as much anymore, but I bet my name is plastered all over MC.:p

Kevlar281 08-10-2008 04:12 PM

No Soup For You!

Senusret I 08-10-2008 04:15 PM

Wow.

epchick 08-10-2008 04:17 PM

Seriously? This is getting pretty ridiculous!!

AnatraAmore 08-10-2008 04:17 PM

Seriously? How many threads are "they" (and by "they" I am NOT talking about all mods... just to clarify) just going to move before the issue is actually addressed? Oy.

ZTAMich 08-10-2008 04:26 PM

"Courtney, this is not a democracy, it's a cheerocracy."

Elephant Walk 08-10-2008 04:28 PM

Yeah, this kind of overmodding is retarded.

and furthermore:

Gretchen: Regina, you're wearing sweatpants. It's Monday.
Regina: So...?
Karen: So that's against the rules, and you can't sit with us.
Regina: Whatever. Those rules aren't real.
Karen: They were real that day I wore a vest!
Regina: Because that vest was disgusting!
Gretchen: You can't sit with us!

Tippiechick 08-10-2008 04:37 PM

I know some of you remember the last time Carny and I got into it b/c she thought I was talking about her... (If I am talking about her and her brood, I usually just say so...)

I got called, "That BITCH Tippiechick" in Mod's Corner when I dared to ask why it was deleted... She never even so much as said anything on the subject to me. But, wow, she apparantly said some stuff in MC.

It's so funny how they think we "regular folk" never hear what they say about us. We hear. We may not choose to address it at that moment, but we hear...

Point is, don't count on ANYTHING being addressed. I learned that calling John on his phone is they only way anything REALLY gets addressed around here. Don't get me wrong, lots of mods try, but nothing happens unless John oks it. So, again, don't hold your breath.

I think the reply is also sufficiently appropriate in this situation:

"You're being a cheer-tator Torrence, and a pain in my ass!"

33girl 08-10-2008 04:58 PM

Well, look at it this way. At least GC still has a Jon & Kate + 8 thread.

So this is like high school. But then, the mod teaches high school so maybe this is her outlet to imitate her students. Whatever, I'm naive and expect mods to act like adults.

BTW...what does it take to have a mod replaced?

icelandelf 08-10-2008 06:15 PM

I still stand behind what I said in the previous thread.

Actually wasn't the mod, but another mod friend who said it... Still, it was said. And, still I know about it. It takes an act of an absent "god" named John to remove the mod.

Unregistered- 08-10-2008 06:33 PM

I'll admit that I'm acronym challenged so I had to look up what IBTM meant.

I was very surprised to learn that it meant "In Before the Move" because really..."I Blame the Moderator" seems more appropriate.

DeltAlum 08-10-2008 06:50 PM

You may blame me.

Please don't pretend you don't know why.

As long as personal attacks and indecent language are used, I will close or move other threads as well.

I'd suggest you take your complaints to John or a SuperMod -- not drag them out on a public forum.

ETA, I originally closed this thread, but I'm going to reopen it so anyone who wants may add whatever childish or well thought out comments you care to.

Either way.

33girl 08-10-2008 07:03 PM

I reiterate:

SUPERMODS ARE NOT THERE TO MAKE CONTENT DECISIONS.

Please don't "go to" them and put them in an uncomfortable position and ask them to perform a function they didn't sign on for. Thank you.

How is this (by this I mean the "childish" comment) keeping in line with your own standards you just set - no "personal attacks"? Practice what you preach.

What you said about taking things to a Supermod absolutely undermines and goes against everything other mods have said - are you privy to knowledge that they're not? Are Supermods now for something other than taking care of spammers and other problems? If so, it seems the rest of the mods didn't get that note. And telling people to contact John is a joke and a half, as you well know, as he doesn't respond to anyone.

ZTAMich 08-10-2008 07:18 PM

Sounds like GC needs a FAQ on the job descrptions of Mods and SuperMods.

Yes.

pbear19 08-10-2008 07:19 PM

DeltAlum, I have a sincere question. Why was the action taken in this case a complete removal of the thread, rather than a removal of the posts that were pointed personal attacks with offensive (to some) language? I would have thought the posts that were against the TOS could have been removed rather than the entire thread. I'm not questioning to be argumentative, I'm questioning to understand, and as such would appreciate a reply when possible.

All moderators are charged with making content decisions in enforcing the Terms of Service. The SuperModerators are as well.

alum 08-10-2008 07:21 PM

Better yet, maybe there should be tougher TOS to protect the moderators:

Moderators and administrators may edit, move, and delete posts to make them more accessible or to bring them into compliance with our TOS. If an edit changes the context or meaning of the post in any significant way, moderators will usually include a note that the post has been edited in the post itself. All moderation, however, is performed on a "best efforts" basis - each poster is fully responsible for his/her own posts, and each visitor is responsible for what he/she reads. Offensive posts should be reported to the moderators, and every effort will be made to remove them as soon as possible. Out of respect for both moderators and policies, discussion of moderator actions and forum policies is welcomed via private message or e-mail; these issues are off-topic for the forums.

That is a fair question. The reason is that the posters would very likely have simply reposted.

I think that this thread may be proof of that.

My "childish" comment was pointed at nobody specifically. If you, or other members care to assume who the children are, that's up to you. You can do the same for those you consider to be giving thoughtful responses.

If SuperMods are only for cleaning up SPAM, why bother?

I can understand that, to a point. But, I personally think that type of preemptive moderation is more likely to inflame the masses, and also more likely to cause more work rather than less work for the moderator in the end. I suppose it is a case of whether you choose to believe the best, or expect the worst.

I think this thread may also be proof of that. :) (Said in a manner that shouldn't be interpreted as flippantly as it might appear online.)

No reason to take such a snotty tone. If you don't want namecalling going on, don't do it yourself. Hiding behind the "well it wasn't pointed at anyone in particular" is ridiculous.

Are Supermods now disciplining other mods? Because if we have a problem with a moderating decision, why on earth should we go to a Supermod? Really, what can they do? Are they now overriding mods of particular forums when it comes to moderating decisions in those forums?

texas*princess 08-10-2008 07:44 PM

for what it's worth, the thread asking "why" was moved because of the vulgar language being used.

It is possible to make a point without throwing around the F-bomb all the time.

However, a bunch of us are still wondering why the thread that started all of this was moved, and she has yet to explain why.

If they want to clean up F-bombs, that's what the edit button's for.

Moving them's just plain lazy and cowardly.

DARN TERRIFIC.

texas*princess 08-10-2008 07:52 PM

^^^ I agree. You can take that up with DA and the other mods who apparently don't believe in "cleaning up" and reopening threads.

Personally I feel if the original thread was cleaned up after the hollywin comments the LL thread would have been perfectly fine.

Senusret I 08-10-2008 07:59 PM

Can't certain words be blocked? If it's profanity we're limiting, that can be done on the admin side of things.

Again, consistency. If I can say fuck in the Lambda Alpha Upsilon forum, I should be able to say it in chit chat.
