I was just on vacation and another vacationer on the trip grew up on a watermelon farm, plus she was a chatterbox...I now know more about watermelon breeds than I ever wanted to soooo.... GO WATERMELON!

baci 07-31-2008 01:32 PM

twinkle555 07-31-2008 01:41 PM

Great so far!! Cant wait for more!

OtterXO 07-31-2008 06:45 PM

Love the story so far!

khlkcca 07-31-2008 07:31 PM

Keep posting.

There is a lesson for sorority women in the pear story. Not only your pmn hears your conversation. Even if you know the person, and they are fine with the topic, someone nearby may not accept it.:(

HunterJumper 07-31-2008 10:20 PM

I agree with khlkcca! that would be a definite infraction at my school because it's 100% unacceptable!

But on a positive note, great storyyyy!!! :)

piphiangel314 07-31-2008 11:44 PM

Oh I'm excited! Go Strawberry! :D

You probably know this by now (or will reveal the true reason behind her unusual behavior later in the story), but maybe Mango Girl was a sticklor for "strict silence" and Panhellenic rules?

Unfortunately, I know many PNMs who have interpreted sisters' attempts to follow rules as being unfriendly or standoffish. At least on my campus, I wish Panhellenic would make this rule as clear to the PNMs as they do to the actives!

Benzgirl 08-01-2008 12:49 PM

90 girls in one recruitment group? Eeeeeek!

WVU alpha phi 08-01-2008 01:58 PM

I'm shocked by how many PNM's stories say they were abandoned by sisters during a rush party. No matter how much you aren't "connecting" with your PNM, I can't imagine doing this! I'm sure other chapters were taught, as mine was, to be nice and treat everyone well because even if that PNM wasn't a fit for the chapter, we might love their roommate/hallmate/HS friend and we don't want them to say they felt uncomfortable or rejected at our house.

AlphaXi_Husky 08-01-2008 10:18 PM

I cannot believe people were leaving you alone - it's just so rude!

Can't wait for the next installment!

ClassicBeauty 08-01-2008 10:53 PM

I can't wait to see what happens next!

Right, and they are also guests in the rusher's home, and under the Golden Rule, they deserve a polite and gracious reception no matter what.

Years ago, another GCer said that when she was a rushee, one "hostess" told her flat out "You're not in the running" and told her to sit in the corner with a book. It wasn't exactly Southern hospitality. I bet that these rude "hostesses" consider themselves paragons of ladylike good manners, too.

To play devil's advocate, it could be that the rushers were new sisters who just didn't understand "bumping" or hadn't gotten enough practice in rush in general. I don't think it's always rudeness or disinterest.

My name is RandomBri,” I responded. [I mean I’m pretty sure I know my own name!] With a crushed look on her face she said, “Oh. Well, I guess she’s not here. I’ll just have to take you in, I guess.”

While this does sound fun/awesome (I mean the part about calling the names, not the not hearing yours!!), it seems like it takes up a lot of time (like forever?) of the party that could be used to have longer conversations? How long did this take?!

And like others have said, it's crazy that you were left alone, whether it's because of rudeness or confusion, from the PNM's POV, it's the worst feeling!

this is one of the best ive read yet, so excited to hear what happens!

I have always thought this too. Our school, and most mid-western schools, only do this for Pref. But, southern schools that have so many girls going through (and often pre-select their pledge classes) readily do this. Personally, I don't think its fair, but that's life in the Greek World.

And as for the crushed look on the Active's face, it's probably because she was assigned to someone her house had already pre-selected and all of the details she had to memorize. She was probably horrified that she knew nothing about RandomBri and would need to wing it

OleMissGlitter 08-07-2008 09:15 PM

Perhaps Raspberry?

UAwildcat12 08-07-2008 09:54 PM

My guess is Mango!

gee_ess 08-07-2008 11:23 PM

Voting for Mango

Benzgirl 08-09-2008 10:21 PM

I hope you are a Raspberry and now live in a beautiful new house.

YouTee 08-12-2008 12:31 PM

Wow, talk about torture! Sorry you had to go through some nail biting before you got your good news.

Congratulations, and thank you for sharing your story:).

irishpipes 08-12-2008 12:36 PM

Who was Strawberry?

OleMissGlitter 08-12-2008 03:54 PM

Congrats RandomBri! I had a feeling it was Phi Mu ;)

violetpretty 08-12-2008 04:07 PM

Belated congratulations to you Bri and Phi Mu! Raspberries are my favorite! I thought Raspbery was a different chapter because I thought another chapter was getting renovated.

LIOB 08-12-2008 05:26 PM

Congrats! I was a Phi Mu at Ole Miss and guess what..........THEY LOST MY BID CARD TOO! I know exactly what that feels like! I had to go all the way back to Greek Life and sit there while they looked at all the bid lists to find my name. I thought I was going to die!

I'm a little embarrassed that the skit was that bad. I hope you guys have a good one for this year! Hotty Toddy!

Ditto!

basket96 08-28-2008 01:25 PM

Bri,
Your story perfectly illustrates why it is crucial for PNM's to keep an open mind and maximize all options (i.e. attend all parties invited to, even if you are SURE it is not for you). Many happy sorority women will tell you that they ended up where they least expected, but are truly happy and could not imagine themselves anywhere else!

Congrats to you and Phi Mu!

honeychile 08-28-2008 02:09 PM

[QUOTE=RandomBri;1693515]
I was horrified. Tears welled in my eyes as I realized that I was not going to become a Strawberry:(. Everything had just felt so right when I was at Strawberry. I was also shocked that Mango was the only one of my top three that invited me back. And Raspberry?? I had ranked them last. I was so confused:confused:. Then I realized that standing there feeling sorry for myself wasn’t going to change anything, so I hurried off to my first party.

(My bold) Would that all PNMs were as mature as you were at the time! I'm so glad that you love Phi Mu, and that you're a Macon Magnolia!!

BabyPiNK_FL 08-28-2008 03:00 PM

How did I miss finishing this thread? Congrats to you!
