I need a few good hazing stories

I need help with a few surveys regarding frat & sorority hazing. Any responders would be greatly appreciated.
1. Name (first only)

2. What year are you graduating/graduated?

3. Were you ever involved in hazing rituals? If yes, explain.

4. Do you know anyone involved in hazing?

5. Why do you think that individuals agree tp participate in the process of hazing rituals?

6. May I use your response in a research paper for Social Psychology?

Unregistered- 07-23-2008 03:07 PM

You'll get little to no response here.

May I suggest that you use better research methods for your paper? Thanks.

clturg 07-23-2008 03:15 PM

It is only one of a few different methods that I am utilizing. I am looking for some personal opinions and maybe a few stories.

clturg 07-23-2008 03:24 PM

I need hazing stories

I am looking for people who would like to tell their personal stories of hazing and explain why you would agree to participate in the process of hazing rituals?

nittanyalum 07-23-2008 03:24 PM

Oh, now, OTW, let's give the poor newbie a break. Here, I'll help:

1) Larry Kroger

2) 1965

3) I really can't answer that now because we're already on double-secret probation and I don't want to risk making things worse.

4) I know the Omegas paddle their pledges and make them say "Thank you sir, may I have another?" repeatedly. Sounds painful and humiliating.

5) Because our chapter president, Eric Stratton, promises us loads of good-looking girls once we're initiated.

6) Knock yourself out.

CrackerBarrel 07-23-2008 03:25 PM

No one is going to admit to anything which will be used for a paper that will cast a further negative light on Greeks.

Now leave before we have to paddle you. Kthx, bye.

DO A GOOGLE FOR HARRY BAALS OR ZIPPY ZAMBONI AND GO AWAY.

33girl 07-23-2008 03:27 PM

Posting in multiple forums isn't going to get you any more or better answers.

LOL!!

LucyKKG 07-23-2008 03:34 PM

Aww, well at least nittanyalum was nice enough to help!

nittanyalum 07-23-2008 03:35 PM

Give, and you'll get back, I always say.

clturg 07-23-2008 03:38 PM

I am not trying to cast any negative light on anyone. Simply looking for help. Thanks anyway!

clturg 07-23-2008 03:40 PM

Then what would you suggest?

Well if you don't think it's trying to cast a negative light then maybe you should put a lot more thought into the topic of your paper. Hazing exposes are almost uniformly a way to make Greeks look bad. Think about it for a minute, how many people are going to say "Wow, they haze for good reasons. That's wonderful."?

clturg 07-23-2008 03:44 PM

Thanks...really intelligent

nittanyalum 07-23-2008 03:44 PM

Pick another topic or try something besides Greek Lettered Organizations, which has been done and done and done. I'd wager you could find some sports teams that have "initiation" rites that make most stuff in the greek world look like tea parties. Don't come to members of GLOs to try to dig up dirt on their or other GLOs. It doesn't work that way. So move on, please.

Thanks, really thought about it there, huh? Because it's the absolute truth. It's impossible to write a paper about hazing, particularly when you're looking for examples of it, that doesn't make Greeks look bad.

You can't understand that? Really intelligent.

clturg 07-23-2008 03:46 PM

I'm only trying to understand why people agree to participate. Not what exactly the rituals are. I really did not think about how quickly I would upset so many people nor did I expect rude responses. I am not suggesting that Greeks are responsible for anything. I'm just looking at different ways to find out. Sorry.

Here's a thought. Try and read and get a feel for the forums when you have time instead of posting away.

CrackerBarrel 07-23-2008 03:50 PM

Hazing isn't ritualistic (good red herring though) and I could care less what you're trying to prove. You are writing a paper which explicitly ties hazing to greek organizations.

I'm writing a paper as well. Could you tell me what exactly inspires the feeling of inferiority in GDIs which leads them to refuse to see more to a fraternity than hazing or dues? Thanks, this will help me a ton.

clturg 07-23-2008 03:51 PM

It was a professor that suggested I use this topic. I originally chose hazing in the Armed Forces.

clturg 07-23-2008 03:54 PM

Point well taken! I'm out!

So is conducting "research" online on a public message board.

nittanyalum 07-23-2008 03:58 PM

I believe they prefer the term "training". Your professor steered you down a bad path. Here's an opportunity for you to stretch your almost-all-grown-up muscles -- pick your own topic and research something that you are really interested in. And btw, you should not trust ANY "research" you get off of ANY public forum. Try some actual reference sources first, they will lead you to good sources of anecdotal support if you need it.

CrackerBarrel 07-23-2008 04:01 PM

I actually think it would be really funny to surprise your professor. Instead of looking for reasons Greeks haze, research the causes of the strong and growing anti-Greek sentiment amongst the teaching faculty at American universities.

I'm being completely serious here, it's a relevant topic to cultural psychology and I'm sure plenty of professors would be willing to speak with you as primary sources for the paper.

Very relevant topic and intersting as well. Thank you. I really had no idea that I would stir up so many negative responses so quickly. I feel terribly stupid.

This is a very sore subject to all of us when it comes to Hazing!

We have seen so manythings happen and we do not like it when it comes to this.

Why don't you PM me and let you and your Profesor discuss this?

Waiting with baited breath.;)

Kevin 07-23-2008 05:14 PM

Maybe you should cite the (very) scientific poll we've conducted about hazing. It's stickied to the top of the forum.

PhiGam 07-24-2008 12:34 AM

Fraternities dont haze anymore. Everyone knows that. Hazing is illegal, immoral, and a sad part of our past that we are forced to acknowledge now.

This is evidenced by the fact that our insurance companies don't even charge us for anything other than the postage that it takes to send statements. They do this because they know they'll never have to cover a claim involving hazing and that we're all good people, so why charge?

Trust me. I'm the moderator of a major Risk Management forum. In fact, if you're writing a paper, feel free to quote me as a "hazing scientist."

Also, re: the poll... the only people who voted "Yes we haze" were non-greeks just trying to start trouble.

Why TF won't you just go to the library? Only a troll would ask dumb ass questions like these on a public message board.

BTW: I'm watching you.
