N.C. State Fraternity Rush
I'm trying to find out what are some good fraternities at North Carolina State so I have some idea of where to start spending my time during rush. If anybody knows anything about the greek life of NC State and the fraternities there just let me know.
|
All I know is that they recently started bulldozing fraternity row and will be building a pretty badass greek village soon. A good time to be a incoming frosh.
I don't know any of the tiers there, so you'll have to ask someone else. |
PM me if you want to know some details.. I don't want to single anyone out on GC but I'll offer some helpful advice one-on-one. wooo WOLFPACK!! so stoked for football season!!

"Infrastructure construction for Phase 1 has begun, and building lots will be available for house construction in the fall. We anticipate the first houses opening in late 2009 and early 2010. The lots for Phase 1 are in the general area of the original Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Nu houses."

Carolina doesn't need that! The housing now is perfect. Every house is recently renovated and at their structural peaks.
It is a shame that certain fraternities do not have houses, but there isn't room. There were houses on the golf course in the past. Now there are none because of the distance from campus. And that was only one mile or so away. On a KA note, I don't feel bad for them. The chapter that bought their house, Pi Lam, had the same thing happen to them a few years before in fraternity court. Now that house is an apartment building. That needs to change! Maybe KA can buy the old Pi Lam house? |
alright Carolina people. I will never understand why y'all must have the last say or take over a conversation we (State) begin. It's like sitting next to an UNC fan in a Raleigh bar. Go make your own UNC Greek Housing thread.
on a side note.. that Greek community project is going to ROCK! Now maybe we can get LXA back up here!! |

Exactly!! It'll be nice to see Tri-Delta get their own place now too, as they are the newest sorority on campus! |

Has anyone bought the DZ house? That house has one of the worst designs I've ever seen. I can't even describe how dysfunctional it is, especially considering it isn't even ten years old. I heard that the Church on Franklin bought the old KAT house on Rosemary as an 'annex' (sort of). So there really are limited options. That's why I don't blame Pi Lam. They had the cash at the right time (I'm pretty sure one alumn bought it outright--no mortgage) and jumped on the open house. I can only think of one fraternity that currently has a house and may be in financial problems. It could be a long time before another house goes up for sale. Then again no one would have guessed the KA house would have been available. What happened to the PKP house? I know they aren't around. Last of the golf course fraternities (besides the pre pharm house). |

Well what do you know, there is someone nice from our rival school. It's fine. you're more than welcome to comment about our Greek Housing and fraternity life. Afterall, that is what the guy who posted this thread was inquiring about.
Best of luck to y'all this season. You're gonna need it, especially with our hockey and football teams!! :p |
Hey, I grew up a State fan, so I know how tough it can be sometimes...what's that facebook group regarding UNC's rivals, again? (Kidding!) I'm looking forward to football season, too--the only team we've been reliably able to beat since I got to Chapel Hill in 2004 has been State, even though they've probably been better than us every year. It makes for an interesting game day, that's for sure. I think they'll beat us this year, but I've learned not to expect much from Carolina football!
But then, the only sport that really matters is still months away ;) |
oh geez another convert... well see how many bandwagon fans yall can get this year. Wait what's the present tense for Carolina blue ---> Carolina blows! haha sorry, I just had to!
The real sport that matters?? Well maybe in your eyes. Whereas for me, I'm a football and hockey kinda girl. My boyfriend plays for ECU too! hmm can we say triple rival :p I think it's hilarious the looks people give us when he has on an East Carolina hat and I have on a N.C. State shirt!! And I have found something quite ironic... ECU considers us their rival, we consider UNC our's, and UNC considers Duke their's. :D What's wrong with this picture?? |
The fact that, out of all of those pairs, Duke is the only one to return the feelings of a rivalry? :p
I have a lot of high school friends who ended up at State, and lots of them were Greek, although they've pretty much all graduated by now. I loved to crash their tailgates, and we had a lot of fun over the past few years with the back and forth! And OP, I promise to stop hijacking your thread now. Good luck this fall! |

Are they going to re-do the sorority houses as well?

Oooooh, they are! I have mixed feelings on that one-the DG house is special to me. One summer the alums and collegians went out and planted trees, flowers, and cemented the anchor out front-I threw in a shovel full!! We did a bunch of stuff to pretty up the house before school started.
On the other hand, it will be neat to see what the Eta Kappa girls get!! I wonder if WhiteDaisy has any info on this one?? |
Yeah, the new Greek Project is exciting. The only info I have on it is DG related. I know Eta Kappa briefly considered buying the AGR house (next to the ZTA house)...but there were too many "problems" with that idea (what that means, I don't really know. I just know executive offices wouldn't approve it). I *think* we will be on board to sign a land lease with the university for the new Greek court...but not in the first phase (obviously). It's hard to raise money with only 6 years worth of alumnae. But it will happen...I mean, there isn't much of an option. I can't wait to see it all come to fruition!
To the original poster, good luck...there are a lot of strong fraternities at NCSU. The Greek system is on the rise for sure! Is Kappa Delta coming this year or next? |
With Tri Delta getting pushed back a year I *think* that means KD will be in 2009 in PHC votes yes to expand again.
I know Tri Delta is in the later stages of the Greek Village as well. I was told we would break ground between 2014-2019. |
The greek community here at NC State is pretty diverse, you will definitely find a group you like with ease.
I cant really give my opinion on the the fraternities here without being biased, but be sure to stop by the Lodge (Chi Psi). I can say without a doubt in my mind that we have the strongest brotherhood on campus. Three in a row Greek Week Champions! |
Thanks I appreciate it, I wasnt really trying to start something between UNC and State but I'm glad everythings cool. Yea I'm excited for rush but it seems like its going to be hard to visit and spend time with the ones I'm interested since a lot of their events conflict with times.

To the original poster, look for the golf course and you'll find your answer. |

God I love it when people recruit on GreekChat.
I'll give you a big heads up, getting your name out there and airing out your achievements to anonymous people on a national greek website isn't exactly the most impressive thing you can do. And I'm not going to rehash my arguments over why national and campus awards are a poor indicator of quality, I've done that plenty. Sounds like y'all are doing good things though, and I'm glad you enjoy your house! |
I agree with you there. I just had to put down a couple things in response to the comment that we had nothing else to put down besides brotherhood. To me though, the brotherhood is what it is all about. The big parties are less fun and less memorable than the time spent with your brothers and the lifelong firendships that are made.

Hey, way cool response and post! If one cannot be aligned with Brothers during and after Campus life then what the hell is there for us? Thanks for posting this! |

I am just about to graduate high school and am about to come to State this fall.. I was wondering if anyone insight on what to expect. I have heard that the formal rush is not very organized. I was just wondering about what to expect, how to make sure I contact organizations I am interested in rushing if the formal rush is not as structured, what dress is expected (i have heard both that it is a "fratty" and not that "fratty" college, and i honestly have no idea what that entails for dress), and anything else you think might be of use for me next year.
