permanent eyeliner

Has anybody had this done? My sister had it done and insists that one should only go to a dermatologist's office for it. What a time saver it would be.

aephi alum 07-03-2008 12:10 AM

Permanent makeup... ugh. Variety is the spice of life. How long does it take to pull out an eyeliner or eyeshadow? For me, that's a tiny bit of creativity - "hmm, I'm wearing green today - grey eyeliner or blue?" Can't do that if it's permanent.

honeychile 07-03-2008 12:14 AM

I would be all for it, if it were safer. You might want to read the last few posts on this thread. Color me frightened!

Thetagirl218 07-03-2008 12:16 AM

I have a friend who had this done years ago when she was a teenager. Now she is married with kids, and hasn't had it updated in years, but it is still there...

KSUViolet06 07-03-2008 12:31 AM

I've never had this done, but seriously, it takes less than a minute to put on eyeliner. Also, if it's permanent, you can't change the color.

WaterChild 07-03-2008 12:43 AM

I think it looks creepy.

Leslie Anne 07-03-2008 12:54 AM

I'd have it done very lightly if it was safe. A medication I'm on makes my hands shake (very annoying) so my eye makeup always turns out like crap.

I've been told by many people that I don't need to wear eyeliner. I don't have the patience to apply it on, so I don't even bother with it.

IMO, cosmetic tattoos are just plain scary.

Eyes + needles = NO

I've never worn eyeliner (can't seem to get it to look right)
But I'm going to play devil's advocate. :D

If it takes a minute to apply, and you apply it 5 mornings a week, reapply it 2 nights a week, for say, 50 weeks a year for 30 years, that's ... 175 hours you've spent applying eyeliner.

carnation 07-03-2008 10:24 AM

Besides the time thing, the women I know who've had it done are older ladies. They don't want to give up wearing it when the magnifying mirror doesn't help anymore.

honeychile 07-03-2008 11:48 AM

I think by the time one's over 35-40, you know what you like. If I didn't have keliods in my family, I'd have the eyeliner AND my lips done!

Of course, I have redhair and light skin - I can't get away without wearing makeup like darker women.

I figure by the time I get to that point, I'll have had my cataracts done (both parents had them so I'm next in line) and I'll be able to see tp put the makeup on.

ZTAngel 07-03-2008 12:00 PM

My husband's mother and sister had it done. It looks good - not too heavy but I think that's how they requested it be done. I personally wouldn't want to do it. I don't always want or feel the need to put on make up - like if I'm going to the grocery store, gym or pool. His sister was telling me that she always has to wear mascara now because her eyeliner looks funny if she wears it alone. I'd hate to be "forced" to wear mascara everyday.

I had my lips done. It's awesome. It's a very natural color, a little more rose than my plain lips. I had it done here in Germany. Of course, when they say "permanent", they really mean 3-5 years. My lips are still ok, and I got them done 2 years ago. Of course, when I got it done, my lips were HUGE for the first couple of hours after application. Then they scabbed over slightly and healed. I'm not sure what having keloids in the family will do?? I am prone to keloids, but my lips turned out great. Maybe they use a different system in Europe. The needle is really fine...

I'm just too frightened to have a needle by my eye to do get eyeliner. It would be good for me if I could get over that... I suck at putting on eye makeup. I'd go to the girl who did my lips. She was great.

Permanent makeup is the dumbest idea ever.

Instead of getting eyeliner and eyebrow filler tattoo'd on to "save time", save your money for laser hair removal and save time by never having to shave your legs again.

It's a win-win. You still save time, you'll have smooth legs for life, and you won't look like a clown when you're 80 due to permanent makeup.

SOPi_Jawbreaker 07-03-2008 06:51 PM

My mom and my aunt have been getting their eyebrows done for several years. My dad recently had his eyebrows done (I think his newfound vanity is because he may be having a little bit of a mid-life crisis). Anyways, I've never seen any other guy with permanent eyebrows and I think my dad looks ridiculous. I can't look him in the face without nearly busting out laughing. So now when he visits, I have to avoid looking directly at his face.

OH! Permanent hair removal is a DREAM of mine!!!
I wish they could just put shaped tape over my eyebrows and a swimcap on my head and dunk me in a vat of magic no-more-hair water

Only problem with this is similar to the other "fix-its" - fair skinned people sometimes end up with a mini dot where each follicle was removed.

I'm doomed to get up early for the rest of my life, I guess. :(

Bella Med Spa, my dear. Taylor is wonderful!

Buttonz 07-04-2008 07:36 PM

My grandmother, mother, aunt and sister have the eyeliner done, and my grandmother and possibly my mother have their eyebrows done. They have all begged me to do it and I laugh at them. There is no way I will ever do it. I think it looks silly.

You'll poke your eye out, kid.

honeychile 07-05-2008 12:37 AM

FYI, there are valid medical procedures which require having a shot into the eye. I know at least four people receiving them, but that just freaks me out.

Blech. I just got a flashback of the Grey's Anatomy episode when the kid's spinal fluid was crushing his brain so Karev stuck a syringe in his eye to suck it out.

I don't wear makeup often, so I poke myself in the eye with the mascara wand more than the usual person. That's pure torture, so I can't even imagine someone coming at me with a pointy, metal eyeliner applicator! NOOOO!

GeekyPenguin 07-05-2008 12:09 PM

This looks SO trashy on old people. The eyelids start drooping and so does the makeup - or it starts fading in parts and you look striped!

Yes! I was visiting with an older woman yesterday, and it was obvious that she had had her eyebrows done. It was so bizarre that all I could do was look at her eyebrows while we were talking.

ZTA zetahunny 07-08-2008 06:37 PM

I had my eyelashes permed and that was fantastic for about 6 weeks. I usually never wear anything but a tad of eyeliner and mascara. I was scared when it started to burn though. By then it was at a point of no return and all I could think of was blisters on my eyeballs. I don't think I'll go back. I tried the permanent hair removal as well, but after 6 or 7 visits, they refunded my money. It doesn't seem to work on my coarse type of hair. Darker hair responds better than this dirty strawberry blonde whatever it is that I have. So I guess I'll just have to shave every day. That's as far as I'll go. The gel nails are a thing of the past and I will say that I enjoy being more natural these days. It is a good feeling.

sls404 08-03-2008 02:04 AM

I just got permanent eyeliner and I love it. It's not about being too lazy to put eyeliner on, although that is a plus to getting it. I got it because 20 minutes after I put on eyeliner, it would all end up under my eyes making me look like a racoon! It looks good and I don't have to worry about checking mirrors every 10 minutes to wipe of my smudged eyeliner under my eyes. And it's actually not permanent. It lasts for about 5 years, so you aren't stuck with it the rest of your life like a tattoo.

I was thinking the same thing. My mother had her eyebrows done and it doesn't look good. I'd much rather have smooth legs forever!
