Wall*E

I went because 5 & 6 yr. old boys + robots = love, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Far more "meaty" than I expected.

Unregistered- 06-27-2008 04:53 PM

3 year old boys love robots too!

My BF took his son to the mall yesterday and got an Eve robot that interacts with the Wall-E robot we got him last week.

We're going to wait until after opening weekend to see the movie, but the kid already knows it's in this theaters now because of the commercials.

jubilance1922 06-27-2008 05:27 PM

I'm going tonite with some friends, I've been looking forward to this movie.

AlwaysSAI 06-27-2008 09:24 PM

We take clients to the movies every Friday. Today we saw Wall*E. I wasn't impressed. I didn't like it. :(

And, I usually <33 Pixar.

Kappamd 06-28-2008 06:31 PM

I thought it was really good - a lot better than I expected. A lot of underlying themes and messages that little kids probably won't get though.

AOII Angel 06-28-2008 07:37 PM

love, love, LOVED it! And I thought I would hate it! My husband dragged me kicking and screaming, but i'm glad he did!

breathesgelatin 06-29-2008 01:54 AM

I LOVED it. I went with my boyfriend tonight. I think it's a great animated movie for adults. Honestly, of all the Pixar movies I've seen, this is the least-kid friendly and most adult-friendly.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall - E! LOL

I totally agree that this is a grown-up movie. I went with Mr. Tau yesterday and there were more adults without kids at the theatre than adults with kids (but it could also have been timing. We saw a 4:50 pm show. The movie ended towards the end of dinner time. There were lots of kids going to a 4 pm show though)

Also, does EVE remind anyone of anime characters, especially the way her "eyes" look when she giggles (and the way she giggles, period) ?

BabyPiNK_FL 06-29-2008 04:36 PM

Yeah. I JUST saw it at 1:50 Eastern and it was amusing, but I wasn't like OH! The way I was with CARS. Wall-E was interesting in a totally different way. Not a lot of dialogue, not a lot going on period. Kids were talking the whole time and a lot of the scenes where there was silence they sounded so confused and wouldn't be quiet (cos they are kids). This isn't for them. It's beautiful and smart, but I wouldn't take anyone under 10 to this.

PS-He was watching "Hello Dolly" in the movie and I'm laughing since I get home and turn on the TV and it's on!

elusive47 06-29-2008 05:01 PM

I haven't seen the movie yet, but i have seen many promos for Wall-E and I think the robot looks like a smaller version of the robot in Short Circuit. (Showing my age.;))

Does anyone agree?

BabyPiNK_FL 06-29-2008 09:50 PM

^^^ OMG YES! I was terrified of that robot since childhood (can't even recall why anymore) and when I saw the first life-size display for Wall-E earlier this year that's what I thought it was. (My bf did too). I was like, why do I have to relive this nightmare?! (Thankfully, I quickly realized it was something else).

TrueBlueKappa 06-29-2008 10:19 PM

Just saw Wall-E this afternoon and absolutely loved it! It was packed to the brim with kids, half of which were asking their parents what was happening.

piphiangel314 06-29-2008 11:07 PM

As soon as I can get away from my job, I'm going to go see this movie. I fell in love with Wall-E in the trailers and can't wait to see the movie!

I completely agree. In fact, whenever I've been in a conversation about the movie and we are trying to get on the same page about what it is, someone (either myself or the other party) always uses the character in Short Circuit as a reference. In fact, my brother last night used the robots actual name when he was talking with my parents.

LPIDelta 06-30-2008 01:26 PM

Saw it--loved it!

Unregistered- 06-30-2008 03:16 PM

Even though I said we'd wait until opening weekend was over, we ended up seeing it yesterday because the Boy and the kid could not wait.

I think it depends on how old the kid is. Ours is only 3, so all he pays attention to is the robot. I enjoyed the themes, and am glad that Disney/Pixar went that route.

Makes me want to go rent "Hello, Dolly!" now!

Yeah, those of us that remember the 80s know that this movie has already been done - and it was called Short Circuit.

No disassemble! No disassemble!

Number 5 is alive!

RaggedyAnn 07-01-2008 07:03 AM

I went to see the movie yesterday and it seemed to me more of a slow moving social/political commentary.

QuillPrincess 07-01-2008 06:46 PM

i loved wall-e! i went to it monday with my fiance, and there was only two other groups of people there. it was real quiet and i was able to watch it no problem! i cried a little too!! (dont wanna spoil).

Buttonz 07-03-2008 10:36 PM

I went to see it with three other people and we all thought it was super cute and loved it!

I'm so good I'm not the only person that didn't love it! And, it did move reaaaaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy slow.

ASUADPi 07-05-2008 12:09 AM

I saw it today with my little sisters. I loved it. While I understood the "social commentary" (the fact that the humans did nothing, incredibly lazy and incredibly, how to put this nicely, overweight), I doubt my sisters did. Either way I thought the movie was cute. Wall-e was adorable (is that the right word?).

christiangirl 07-05-2008 01:44 AM

I'm hesitant to see it. My friend went and didn't like it much. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay for a movie if it's not awesome, so I might wait for PPV.

My wife and kids (10 and 7) saw it Sunday; I couldn't go with them. They all liked it okay, but I didn't get the sense that any of them loved it. We had polled a bunch of college-aged friends before going to see it: They were pretty evenly divided between those who liked it and those who really hated it. Many thought that the social commentary in it was too heavy-handed and too depressing (for children) -- and these are people who are pretty socially-conscious.

All in all, I'm in no hurry to see it; but then, I thought the trailors for it looked boring. :o

ForeverRoses 07-09-2008 03:21 PM

I took my son and two of his cousins to see it (aged 4,5 & 6) and they all liked it. I thought it was okay. However, I did think it was really strange that they gave out plastic junky Wall*E watches. I mean, isn't the point of the movie that we have too much garbage? Yet they gave us junk watches. Odd.

pinkyphimu 07-10-2008 01:20 AM

I took my 8 year old nephew on opening night. We both loved it. I thought he might not like it because the themes were definately "heavy." We always talk about the movies and he caught on to the idea that people needed more exercise and with a little prompting got the rest of the messages. I was really impressed with him!

LucyKKG 07-10-2008 02:15 AM

I thought it was pretty cute. I mean, it was no Toy Story, but it was still cute.

While the robots look the same, this move has NOT "already been done."

The plots are in absolutely no way similar, except of course, that they feature robots.

Angeelo 07-14-2008 04:02 PM

I saw it, loved it. Second favorite Pixar movie behind Monster's Inc.

Ok, so call me a geek but I saw it again this past Saturday but this time the theater had more kids there. Different reaction from the kids in comparison to the adults. In terms of the themes, I heard two little one's in the theater say "mommy, what does that mean?". Other than that, the kids cheered at the end. QuillPrincess, I think you and I may have teared up at the same scene..:D
