New Website for IHQ

Whats the deal with the new site, whenever i go to lambdachi.org all I see is a black page with the Coat of Arms?

Are we finally on the verge of something new?

john1082 06-25-2008 09:12 PM

All will be revealed . . .

PiLambda1 06-25-2008 11:38 PM

Is it rude to say, "IT'S ABOUT FREAKING TIME?!?!?!"

GammaZeta 06-26-2008 12:00 AM

Good evening commissioner.

It's all...part of the..plan...

Not sure if "pretty" is an appropriate term, so I'll say you guys have a very ornate and regal coat of arms. :)

Thanks for your kind words about our CoA Sen, Ive always thought our CoA was one of the better ones, without trying to sound arrogant or anything.

At the last Presidents' Townhall meeting I called into it was revealed that the new site would go live July 1. I bet I'm not the only looking forward to seeing the new setup!

I asked that question!!!

JConleyWCU 07-01-2008 02:46 PM

and.... its not up yet

I was excited to have something to do at work...

john1082 07-01-2008 03:55 PM

I don't know who will be presiding at the crucification but I'd sure like to buy a seat in the audience!

I had to check some conference information relative to my reservation and could not do it. I had to call Tina and ask - as if the staff doesn't already have enough to do right now!

JonoBN41 07-01-2008 05:15 PM

Hang tight everybody, the new website goes live tomorrow.

JConleyWCU 07-02-2008 02:56 PM

Website is well worth the wait...

Bilski 07-02-2008 04:04 PM

! OK, eek may not be the expression I'm looking form, but shock and delight at how great looking the new site is certainly what I'm trying to express!

Crescent182 07-02-2008 04:10 PM

I like the new website. Call me overly critical, but on the directory page where you can look for a chapter alphabetically by zeta; why is the alphabetical descending alphabetically in english, (where alpha is first and zeta is last)? Like I said I may be a little critical, or maybe its the ocd, I was just trying to figure out what the most recent chapter designation was and you can't go about doing this that way.

Brian (Phi Theta 182)

john1082 07-02-2008 04:54 PM

New web site

It is clearly more functional than the old one. Directories, manuals, reporting are all in an easy to find place - and that is a very good thing indeed. Over time we can work out the kinks but the roll-out seems to have given us a web site that is functional and responsive to what chapters and members need to have.

GammaZeta 07-02-2008 05:27 PM

Just looked at it.

Sorry to say, but UUUHHHHGGGGGGGG.

I mean, it's ok, but no character to it.

It looks like someone simply took a website template out of the box and threw in the Lambda Chi stuff.

I really like Pikes, or sigeps.

To me, it's just a little too vanilla, too bland.

Trey_P-I_47 07-02-2008 06:00 PM

I was thinking the same thing, but that is an issue that can be addressed later on. I think the most important thing is that something new has come out and shows that IHQ is listening and moving in a positive direction. The frills can come a little later, the accesibility and revamp were more important.

john1082 07-02-2008 06:20 PM

What matters is that it is functional and easy to navigate. Razzle-dazzle can come later - if ever. But what we need is an information portal and it appears to be that. AND IT WORKS

JonoBN41 07-02-2008 06:40 PM

I agree with John and Trey. With a website of this magnitude, functionality and ease of navigation is all important. It's not entertainment, nor is it supposed to be. You go to a site like this to find out what you need to know as quickly as possible.

I can't tell you how many chapter websites I've visited with glitzy swirling colors, spinning gold C&Cs, Magic Carpet Ride blaring - and nothing else.

The only problem I've encountered is the missing graphic on the home page and the tabs beneath it (but above undergraduates, alumni, and parents & friends) when using Mozilla Firefox, which is what I generally use. Everything shows up with IE.

I like it.

GammaZeta 07-02-2008 07:13 PM

You can have both functionality and visual appeal.

I'm not saying it's a bad website, just......bland.

I don't want our website to be like a 67 year old female librarian that thinks make-up is the tool of the devil.

Are we really that boring of a fraternity?

I do believe that what we put out as a fraternity, reflects us as a fraternity. It says something about us.

Right now, our website says we are some sort of hospital or doctor's office.

JonoBN41 07-02-2008 07:20 PM

We understood what you said and what you meant the first time. We speak English.

GammaZeta 07-02-2008 07:54 PM

Good, I'll say it again. Maybe next time it will sink in and people will do it the right way.

Way too bland for a fraternity website. Easy to navigate, yes. Good content, yes. Does it appeal to our target audience, absolutely not.

When I first typed in the web address, I thought I made a mistake and forgot a letter, because it looked like one of those generic "page holder" websites.

Should I say it again Jono?

.

Gamma Zeta,

Do you know a 67 year old female librarian?

I do.

Well, actually 61....

Make-up is OK with her.

And she is not "bland".

Oh, and you better get that book back in time.

Yours in ZAX,

Mike Raymond

Bilski 07-03-2008 12:42 AM

To each his own, I think the site looks great. It's my understanding that this is just Phase 1 of more to come so some additional visual "flash" might be in the works.

The only problem I've ran into is the search box at the top. It didn't bring up anything for me. 1st day kinks I'd say.

UMOLCA 07-05-2008 06:35 PM

As I understand most of you brothers who post on GC are alumni. I value alumni opinion given the experience and wisdom you have being finished with school and very much a part of "the real world". As an undergraduate I am not very impressed with the new site. I agree that the navigation is simple and functional, but is this just a "jitterbug" version of our fraternity's website? It seems to me that it exists more for alumni who can donate than potential members or current members. I would not use it to sell our fraternity to potential members. Throughout the site there is very little mention of college! I don't necessarily think more flash is what is needed but instead, substance. We have unique stories, traditions and members so lets show it. We have become an online culture and the first authority students will seek is the internet. I don't feel very confident that what they find on our website will interest them. Also, there was some concerning information I found on it that I think should be removed. We need to leave the mystery, after all that is what makes us... us

In ZAX,

Beta1387

GammaZeta 07-05-2008 06:53 PM

100% agree with everything UMOLCA said.

GammaZeta 07-05-2008 11:14 PM

Can we bring the old one back?

I think it sucks, not as good as other fraternities we compete with. Phase 2 should be to scrap it.

Albert109 07-06-2008 11:33 AM

I don't understand all this negativity. The old website was just that, old; it had been at least, what, 6 years since anything of consequence had been changed. Though it may not have the smooth flash image that this generation unfortunately bases it's judgement on how good a website is (though I agree this is a good point as far as recruitment goes) and there might be several kinks in the system (I'm still trying to find someone to provide feedback to), it has been completely revamped; like John said, everything is easy to find. It has been compartmentalized and after getting used to the setup, most anything you had on the old website you can find here (and more). And it's not even done yet; that's why it's called PHASE 1 - only the first of several upgrades.

BTW, I love the new manuals; I wonder if we're still associated with Fraternitymanuals.com since we redid all ours. I'm just waiting for my office's manual to go online :).

The more I think about it, the more sense Honky makes.

Why do it in phases? We're putting out a bad, incomplete product that is supposed to represent our fraternity. So, now we have a sub-par website, and for how long?

We shouldn't half-ass anything that has our name on it. Simple: if it's not done, DON'T RELEASE IT.

Just because it is new, doesn't make it good. I have looked at 20-30 other fraternity sites, and they were all better.

Hell, even some of our individual CHAPTERS have better sites than the new one. That is embarassing.

Tom Earp 07-07-2008 12:56 PM

Granted, it will take some time getting use to it as anything new.

We all complined about the old one and now as usual there will be those who complain about the new one!

It is a lot easier to navigate and that is one of the things that I continually harped about.

Talking about the Zetas, there are several ways to navigate it:

By School, and Zeta.

The magnifing glass goes to each Zeta and if there is no web site then it of course will not list it! Whose fault is that?

Rolling something of this magnatude out is never easy and while I was a little frustrated at seeing somethings I wanted to check not available, it will be coming in the near future!

Anything new will have to be added to and tweeked so quit complaining about it!

If some of you spent as much time as I do on checking Zeta web sites and HQ web sites, we still do have a very informative one! I will tell you, it is one of the best!

GammaZeta why don't you try being more positive for a change?

GammaZeta 07-07-2008 04:53 PM

I was positive Tom, but it's not that great, and a lot of brothers agree with me.

I would be positive, but I keep goin back to the old saying:

"You can't polish a turd."

Tom Earp 07-09-2008 12:45 PM

LOL, but how true?:D

It is after many screw ups and a lot of money (sound familiar) is better than what we had as far as Navigation.

There will still be things added in the future and it could not come any to soon for all of us!

I am not sure whom you are refering to or what sites, but with all of the items LXA has compared to many other GLO sites there is a whole lot of more information on our old and new site than anyothers that I have seen either Male or Female (Fraternity or Sorority).

The only thing I can think you are possibly refering to is the Intro page?

True?

Give me more input about what you are talking about for discussion purposes!;)

JConleyWCU 07-09-2008 01:08 PM

So I just received my Legislative Workbook for General Assembly...

My group will be discussing website issues...

sounds like a blast lol

Maybe you can take some of the concerns to the meeting and present them for us!

There is time so any ideas would be good for any changes to submit!!

Side note: I've never been to any GA/LS but will be this summer. Do we all get one of these "Workbooks" or does just the delegate get one? And for that matter, when do we get told when/where we are to be for the couple days.

Now back to your previously scheduled website bashing....;)

john1082 07-09-2008 08:29 PM

Workbooks

delegates will receive the workbook. It contains copies of the pending legislation.

Eric_Berger 07-09-2008 09:05 PM

Upon check in at the General Assembly, you will get a handbook with a schedule of events with locations, times, etc.

in ZAX,
Eric

JConleyWCU 07-10-2008 01:26 AM

You should have got a schedule in your e-mail...

If you are delegate you got that and your workbook to look over...

If you need anything PM me and I can forward it to your e-mail.

GammaZeta 11-02-2008 07:50 PM

Did anything ever come out of this?

The "new" website still sucks, even after the much promised updates. I thought the released version was just a beta.
