Conventions 2008
I did a search and only came up with threads within specific sorority forums, but...
It's Convention Season!!! The Alpha Gams are heading to the San Antonio Rivercenter Marriott for our Convention. Several of us on GC are arriving Tuesday or Wednesday but Convention officially begins Thursday. On Saturday night, we will be heading to Knibbe Ranch for dinner and that sounds like so much fun! I'm planning on doing some sight seeing Wednesday morning (particularly the Alamo) and then hitting the pool until around 2 pm when I have to start getting ready for meetings Wednesday afternoon/evening. My commitments end around 9 pm that evening so I'm hoping to get some sisters to go check out the Riverwalk with me that night. I saw that the Sigma Kappas are heading to Indian Wells at the same hotel where we were in 2006! You are going to love the pool and the circle staircase! I thought the meeting room layout was kind of strange and people had a hard time finding some of the meeting rooms at times. We had to walk outdoors to get to the dining room and it was VERY hot, so be prepared. It was a bit of a walk too and you had to walk past the pool and envy the people in the water while you're in your formal gowns! I got blisters on top of my blisters during that one because I did not break in my new shoes ahead of time. I'm on top of my game this year though! And I believe Chi Omega was in San Antonio in 2006. Is it St. Louis this year? Who else??? |
Deltas are in Orlando July 24-30.
|
It seems like many of the NPC groups that have conventions this summer chose west/southwest locations. Have a blast, ladies!
|
If memory serves, Theta was in San Antonio last time ('06) and in Indian Wells before that ('04). (I must be getting old, as the Conventions are starting to run together in my brain.) This year it's Miami, starting Wednesday evening. Not sure I'll get out of the resort this year.
Happy Conventions, fellow even-year-ers! |

Delta Upsilon's annual convention, Leadership Institute, will be in Houston July 31-August 3. At the grand banquet we will find out the location for next year's LI...rumor is Albany, NY!
|
Theta Phi Alpha's convention will be in Chicago in July.
Sadly, I cannot attend this year. I cannot take a whole week off work since we are extremely short-staffed. |
San Antonio
Note on San Antonio--its been HOT here the last few weeks, much so for this early in the summer. When visiting outside, plan to stay hydrated.
We have not had a whole lot of rain this year yet, so bugs shouldn't be too bad, especially in the city. For the Riverwalk--I highly recommend a restuarant called Iron Cactus. Its my fave down there and they have great tableside guacamole. I take visitors there and they are always impressed, especially when they find out mayonaise is not an ingredient in authentic guac. :) Enjoy!! ETA: DPhiE is celebrating its convention this summer in the DC area. |
SAI has triennial conventions and our next one is not until next year...in chicago, I believe.
Phi Sig, on the other hand, is having Grand Chapter and Convention is early August in Tennessee. |
As Chaos said, Deltas will be in Orlando this summer, July 24-30. OPhiAs will be in Denver July 16-20.
:) |
Looks like Texas is a popular destination.
Sigma Nu is in Austin. It's going to be hot! http://www.sigmanu.org/images/gc_aus...age_banner.jpg |

Convention
I wish I were going to the Sigma Delta Tau 44th National Biennial Convention at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in Ft. Lauderdale, FL from June 26-29. I attended the Biennial Convention in 1964 at Sportsmen's Lodge in North Hollywood, CA as a delegate from my chapter. In addition to the informative leadership sessions, it included an entire day spent at Disneyland. That day, Disneyland was inundated with hundreds of lovely young women wearing cafe au lait and old blue shirts with Sigma Delta Tau proudly emblazoned on the front. I still have mine, but getting into it today would take a real effort! I urge all members of GLO's and all alumnae to attend their sorority's national conventions if possible. They are not only informative but entertaining as well. Meeting sisters and alums from other chapters promotes acceptance of our differences as well as unity. I hope eveyone who attends has the time of her life! Paula M. Sigma Delta Tau ΣΔT Patriae Multi Spes Una One Hope of Many People |
I have met sisters at Convention who have become lifelong friends and I so look forward to seeing them every two years! Convention rejuvenates my enthusiasm for Alpha Gamma Delta and is always inspiring. In attending Convention, you get the true sense for your (inter)national organization and your appreciation for the organization beyond your own chapter grows with each Convention.

AXiD doesn't have convention this year, but I'm going to my first volunteer training in St. Louis at the end of July! Woo woo! Next year, we're having convention in Denver.

Phi Mu will be in Orlando, Florida from June 25-29!!! Can't wait to see my sisters there!!!
|
KD will be in Orlando next year. This is not a convention year for us. We were in Palm Springs last year. Boy, was it HOT. Leadership School is in Boston, next week, I think.
|
Alpha Phi Omega's 2008 National Convention will be held Dec 28-30 in Boston.
APO has pretty much always had our NatConv then. Hotel costs are lower, and we're assured everyone is available (ie, no school). |
Kappa Alpha Theta's 2008 Grand Convention is being held this week (June 18-22) at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami, Florida!
Unfortunately, I cannot attend because of work, but I know a number of sisters that are going! |
Delta Gamma's 63rd Biennial Convention will be held June 18-22, 2008, at the Desert Springs Marriott Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California.
I'm going to the latter half! |
Beta Chi Theta's 2008 National Convention will be held in Nashville, TN this year Aug 29- Sep 1
|
As Scandia said, Theta Phi will be in Chicago from July 9th - 14th. I'm leaving a day early, but I'll be there for almost the entire thing. My first Convention was in 2006 in Atlanta and was amazing. I had such a good time and really loved getting to see the more of the organization nationally. YAY!!! 25 days and counting...
|
Lambda Psi Delta will be in Dallas, TX July 11-13:):):)
|
ASA will have their's in Albequerque, New Mexico July 16-20th.
|
Pepey has already given the info about ours. But this is my 5th and I am very excited!!!!:D:D
|
I am going to SK's Convention in Palm Springs, CA and now I am worried about the heat. I keep telling myself it'll be ok since it's "dry heat" although I must admit I can't fathom what that feels like.
|
Tri Delta's Convention will be July 2-5 at the Hyatt Regency downtown Chicago. I cannot attend this year, but I am really planning on attending in 2010 if the location is close like it is this year.

I live less than an hour away from Palm Springs so it's always hot around here but I'm kinda used to it. Still, I suggest loads of sunscreen and drink lots of water. |
