The Search for the Next Elle Woods on MTV

Is anyone watching? Who do you think will win?

LucyKKG 06-10-2008 11:30 PM

I watched one episode of it. Not sure what I think.

HuskyAlum 06-11-2008 01:37 AM

I'm watching, but I'm not all that impressed. I saw & LOVED the show on Broadway, but all the excessive screaming and over-the-top facial expressions is a bit much to deal with on a weekly basis. But DVRing and fast-forwarding through the annoying parts is much better. I'm interested to see who wins & how she does after the show is over.

DSTCHAOS 06-11-2008 11:59 AM

Glad I'm not the only one watching.

Of course it will get annoying because it is Broadway and requires the ladies to be over the top. The first two episodes were a bit boring and some of the ladies definitely didn't fit in. I like the 2 who look a little like Reese Witherspoon (one is from Harvard law, I think).

The next episode has some "drama" so that should be entertaining enough.

GeoffZ 06-11-2008 03:38 PM

I didn't think I'd like this show but i got more into after episode 2. There are alot of good singers in the bunch....not sure about their acting yet. I like Bailey (the pastor's daughter from South Carolina). She cute, sings well, and looks like an Elle. Cassie S. irritates me the most. She's so fake. On a semi-related note, Selina (tall red head who seems really out of place) has been playing a skanky hooker on All My Children for the past couple of months. I think that role suits her better ;)

DSTCHAOS 06-11-2008 03:41 PM

Is the pastor's daughter the one with the deep Southern accent that they told her to watch?

The oldest one is like 28 and I think that's the one with the short redish hair.

The first episode, I wondered if any of the girls are in a sorority.

RU OX Alum 06-11-2008 03:44 PM

I didn't even know there was a first elle woods

GeoffZ 06-11-2008 03:52 PM

Yeah, Baily/pastor's daughter is the one with the accent who won the challenege.

Legally Blonde was made into a Broadway musical. :) There's a thread about it on here.

KDAngel 06-11-2008 05:02 PM

I LOVE Bailey. I'd like to see her win. :)

Me as well. She's adorable.

Thetagirl218 06-13-2008 12:32 AM

I was bored during the first episode....

I definitely wondered that, too.

I liked when they did a song about Delta Nu and had the hand signals. I was like ahh! Cool! I can't do that with a K, a K, and a Gamma!

DSTCHAOS 06-16-2008 10:39 PM

I love this show.

The ladies are cute and talented. The "Witherspoon look alike" law student was accused of being mean during the elimination performance.

nittanyalum 06-16-2008 10:42 PM

^^^Is that Emma? She is being kind of a bitch. I think the nicotine withdrawal is really getting to her. ;)

Yes. She rocked it during the bike workout song. Sang her heart out. She was like "DAMN, YEAH!" I laughed because she's clearly having nicotine withdrawal issues. :)

DSTCHAOS 06-16-2008 11:00 PM

Emma (Selena and Lauren) was on the chopping block but was saved. :)

Lindsey (the almost Elle look alike) was sent home.

GeoffZ 06-17-2008 03:29 AM

Natalie has become another one of my favorites. The Bailey/Cassie S. drama is funny. I'm surprised Cassie didn't call her out directly when the judges asked for a name. Is it just me or does the judging and "office" scenes seem really rushed compared to the rest of the show?

lyrica9 06-17-2008 08:18 PM

my faves are natalie and rhiannon

aabby757 06-17-2008 08:59 PM

I hate how the girls are hating Cassie. She's so sweet. I loved her in Clean House and I think she is super talented.

I was very very disapointed at Bailey and especially Emma's behavior. I can forgive Emma if she's going through withdrawl but her arrogance is a bit much. Especially the "I grew up in the business" part. If she's so great then why isn't she a huge star by now?

Rhiannon I find SO annoying. The red head I find strange.

I think Bailey will win but Cassie is my favorite.

ASUADPi 06-18-2008 09:01 AM

I actually agree that Cassie is to young and immature. Seriously throwing the girls under the bus during the elimination performance shows her immaturaty. You don't do that. It's completely unprofessional and I am shocked that the judges didn't actually comment on that.

I really like Emma. I'm sure the nicotine withdrawal isn't helping her attitude, but as someone who has acted, each person makes a choice on how they interpret the scene, she made the choice of sounding mad at the clerk and it didn't pay off. As for the whole thing with Cassie, if I wasn't feeling good and was afraid I was going to lose my voice right before the elimination challenge, I wouldn't be singing either. But, I would participate and would have told Cassie "hey I think I might be losing my voice, I'll help you out and be here but I'm not going to sing". Then whether she understands or not is up to her.

The thing though is, just like any other reality show, they are editing the show to bring in the "drama", for all we know Emma did say something but Cassie, being as immature and as self-centered as she is, might now have "accepted" anything Emma said. We really don't know.

I have a feeling Celina will probably get the boot next week. She doesn't scream "Elle" to me.

I really like Bailey, I just think she is adorable.

But, I want the hometown girl, Autumn to win!

lyrica9 07-08-2008 05:56 AM

ok so i'm a huge dork and i've been reading the girls blogs and whatnot on their mtv profiles, and i think i figured out who wins. i hope i'm wrong, because i can't stand her!

so autumn, bailey, lauren and rhiannon are left, and i'm pretty sure that autumn is soon to go based on her photos, since she dyed her hair back to a brownish color. i want lauren to win, but if my suspicions are correct based on blogs/photos then i'll be disappointed on that front.

OK, now I have to go check them on their MTV blogs...

And I don't want Autumn to win. No doubt she's talented, but she's just NOT Elle Woods. I hated her hair last night too. Heck, I didn't like it before. I wish they would have given her extensions.

I want Bailey or Lauren to win. Bailey probably more realistic though b/c she's 2yrs older and the rest of the cast is like 30.

KDAngel 07-08-2008 08:59 AM

POSSIBLE SPOILER: Lauren is supposedly playing Margot in the musical now.

responding-to-spoiler-spoiler: She's playing the part on the touring cast.

I'm 98% sure the winner is Bailey. Boo!

sugar and spice 07-11-2008 09:40 PM

For the record, you guys, the hair isn't necessarily a big clue. Whoever plays Elle will wear a wig, just like Laura Bell Bundy currently does in the show, even though she has long blonde hair in real life, too. It's just easier to style a wig than real hair.

The makeovers were just done to build drama for the TV show. It's not necessary for whoever plays Elle to actually have blonde hair.

Especially with like Autumn. While her hair is now blonde it is short, she would have to wear a wig no matter what. The only way to get around it would be for her to have extensions. But as Sugar and Spice said, it would be much easier to style a wig than to redo real hair. You could have more than one wig, have it pre-styled then boom during the costume change, new wig.

KDAngel 07-14-2008 10:40 AM

Autumn just doesn't look or feel like Elle to me...

KDAngel 07-15-2008 10:31 AM

Definitely want to see Bailey win after last night.

She's a Gamma Phi Beta at Coastal Carolina, so it's supporting a Greek. Even better!
And she has a barbie pink bug -- so Elle Woods.

KDAngel 07-22-2008 12:01 AM

LOVE that Bailey won!

I ran the regional HQ for McCain in Greenville/Spartanburg and had an event in Anderson, so it's so crazy that I know the small, small town that she's from too.

Snaps to her. :p

KDAngel 07-22-2008 12:08 AM

Straight from playbill news:

Finalists Autumn Hurlbert, Rhiannon Hansen and Lauren Zakrin have all been cast in either the Broadway production or the first national tour of the musical, which launches in Providence, RI, Sept. 23.

Hurlbert, the first runner-up in the competition, will understudy the role of Elle Woods on Broadway and will perform in the ensemble. Zakrin, the youngest contestant on the reality show, will understudy the tour's Elle Woods, Becky Gulsvig, and will also be a member of the ensemble. And, Hansen will play the role of Margot, Elle's best friend, on tour.

Well I for one am glad that they all got a role somehow. Getting the "foot in the door" is always the hardest part.

That's awesome that Autumn will understudy, which means at some point she will get to do the role on Broadway (I say that because in reality Bailey, being human, will get sick or lose her voice, hence understudy comes in). I wonder if shows have ever had to use an understudy for an understudy? Sorry pardon my crazy thoughts. LOL.

I wanted Autumn to win, but I was honestly thrilled that it was between her and Bailey. I had liked Bailey from the beginning. I really just didn't want Rhiannon. Something about Rhiannon's voice just bothered me.

Kappamd 07-23-2008 09:34 PM

This is really random, but I was watching an old episode of Clean House on the Style Network a couple nights ago and Cassie S.'s family was on it. It took me a couple minutes to figure out where I recognized her from, but then I realized. I guess she really likes being on reality TV......?

Kind of along the same lines, I SWEAR that's Celina during the opening of the Sex and the City movie. Am I crazy, or did anyone else see her in there? (she's walking by and turns around and smiles at I think Carrie, they might have bumped into each other or something)

And I fell out of touch with the last 3 or 4 weeks of the show, but I was glad to hear that Bailey won, too!

aabby757 07-24-2008 10:58 AM

Yes that is Celina in the SATC movie. And the orginal Margot is in it too. Celina represents the younger version of Miranda. You'll notice four young women are walking past Carrie. There is someone else from Broadway but I can't remember.

ASUADPi 07-27-2008 10:59 PM

Okay prior to the MTV show I honestly knew nothing about the musical (like I hadn't bought the songs or listened to them). Now, I seriously dying to see this musical!!!!!

Broadway tuner "Legally Blonde" will shutter Oct. 19 after a run of just over 18 months.

Production, which has grossed $54.1 million on the Rialto so far, is coming off a strong summer that saw weekly sales boosted to the mid-$800,000 range by "Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle Woods," an MTV reality competish that cast the show's replacement star, Bailey Hanks.
B-way's Legally Blonde closing

agzg 09-25-2008 10:42 AM

That's kindof sad for Bailey but I'm sure she'll find it a lot easier to land roles on Broadway after headlining.
