Obama effectively clinches nomination

So depressing.

nittanyalum 06-03-2008 05:30 PM

And you're saying that because you think Obama will give McCain a run for his money? Or because you supported Hillary? I thought you were a conservative lobbyist or something along those lines?

Like DSTCHAOS, I'm not buying it until I hear a concession from Team Hillary. All the news outlets are saying yes, but still nothing from either candidate.

I just want this over and done with already.

(good thing my Obama shirt came in the mail yesterday) :p

According to the news reports, its done, and she's already lobbying for the VP spot.

Congrats to Obama - I'm not a fan of his by any means, but it's been a fast rise up the political ladder for him. I'll be interested to see what he says at the Convention.

I'll also be interested where they place Hilary in the speaking program at the Convention. Has she angered enough people that she gets a bad spot, or will she still be one of the featured speakers? Will she try to bring the party together, or will she be divisive?

pbear19 06-03-2008 08:06 PM

Congrats to Obama! I am not a Hillary-hater, but I have admittedly grown to dislike her over the past few months. Which is noteworthy considering she was my pick at the time of my state's primary. A lot has changed since then, and I would honestly prefer she not get the VP job either at this point. But I would have voted for the dem candidate either way, so I'll survive if she is offered VP.

My favorite read of the day:

cause Obama's gonnaaaaaaaa... WIN!

sidenote: McCain has some lame ass supporters in Louisiana. they cant decide on what they want to chant when he says something they agree on and their applause is weak. it sounds like an early episode of Jerry Springer, the audience is just off. it's like they... don't believe him...

who wouldve thunk it?

ETA: i just LOVE how McCain is sh*tting all over Obama's campaign, yet repeating his slogan "Change we can believe in." and umm, isnt his slogan "a leader we can believe in?"

OTW-I agree with you. I do not understand the poker games she is now playing at all. Yes, she does have chips to cash in but at what cost to whom and how many?
Just about the only thing I can think of at this late hour of the day is that she wishes to let her followers vent for a few days and then come out with some speech or announcement that she is going to fully support Obama.
But all in all, IMVHO, it would have been over all so much better for just about all concerned if she had done that tonight.
As in many cases, only time will tell on this.

Saying it because I don't understand how Americans have let this happen.

Yes, I'm in a GOP lobbying firm and I do support McCain, but I can fathom the idea of Hillary running the country. And while I don't like her or her politics, I don't think she'd be a global disaster for the US the same way I think Obama could be.

He's a FANTASTIC, top of the line speaker but the man's hardly ready to be Commander-in-Chief and President and his politics would destroy our economy in my opinion...

Oh well, let the battle begin I suppose.

I wish the vindictive, shrill bitch would just go on and quit. No one wants her as VP. In fact, I'm still undecided at this point, but if she is Obama's running mate, I'm going McCain all the way. I don't want that woman and her dirtbag husband anywhere near the White House.

Word, word, wordy mc word. If he picks her (or should I say is forced to pick her) he'll never have a chance of winning.

First, this is a terrible argument for why I should vote for Barack Obama. Wealth redistribution, higher taxes and increased regulation aren't what I think America needs to rebuild the economy.

Second, at least we're retaining the appearance of capitalism. Enterprise economic systems fluctuate. I'm ok with that.

Agreed, Hillary would have been a pretty good choice but we haven't had a president as liberal as Obama since.... I can't even think of one.

I am not arguing the point of who to vote for.
I was just commenting on the current state of the economy.
Over the past 8 years.
And I have very little problem with those making a great deal of money paying a fair share of taxes back. And some guy named Buffet seems to think like that as well.

I would have been OK with Hillary's plan which would have raised taxes for big earners back to 39% but Obama's "change" is going to bankrupt this country should he ever make it to the white house.

There's a difference between it being voluntary and forced (see: Socialism.)

I also think her supporters will need time to vent. She needs to set that tone and should have done it last night. And, to openly campaign for the VP spot just makes me mad. She's trying to pen Obama in a corner.

Also, I'm curious to see how Hillary & Bill are going to go out and stomp for Obama. It's been so much negativity from their camp.

I failed to add to my earlier posting that perhaps another reason for Hillary to "hold off" is the $11 million debt in her campaign account. She maybe looking for donations from both her supporters as well as Obama.

We probably have different views on what is "fair." Also, though I respect Warren, I don't really care about his views on taxation.

I don't know that someone's current wealth position always has a direct correlation to their feelings on tax policy. I'm certainly not top 1%, but I agree more with Shiner's position.

We perhaps should start a thread on tax and end this hi-jack.

Does anyone think that Obama HAS to choose Clinton now? She has said she will consider the spot... MEANING, if she doesn't get it after winning the popular vote... the Clinton-ites will go from livid to psycho  She forced Obama to give it to her now.

Personally, I really think Obama should choose Kathleen Sebelius. It will help him fill his weakness. She has been a vocal supporter of his. She is a strong woman who could hopefully attract the Clinton-ites... AND she is not scary!!!
