If your job offered...
...to let you work 4 days a week (still working 40hrs)
1. would you be interested? 2. What day would you eliminate? |
I only do 4 days "face time", but I am also on call 24 hours on 4 days. I have Fridays off, and I love it!
|
we've been doing this for a while, i just recently (this week) changed from friday off to tuesday off
it was a weird week to start, but i think i will like it better |
I'd want to work 4 consecutive days in a row just so there wouldn't have to be breaks in between any work I might be trying to do, but considering the work force would have to be staggered the possibility of having the same day off every week would be small (since everyone would most likely want Monday or Friday.)
Personally I'd prefer to keep my 8 hour days & work one day from home. |

I used to work that schedule, and I took Fridays off. It worked better for me because I had to liaison with our international offices, in Europe, PacRim and Australia. The best times of day were before and after the 9-5 hours, because I didn't have people bothering me. Heck, I usually came in early and stayed late before I had changed, so it made sense. |
Four ten hour days also conserves on gas and gives a longer weekend .:)
But, I never had a job that I could do that. |
I work a 9/80 schedule, so I have every other Friday off.
I have been thinking of going to a 4/10 schedule to have every Friday off. |

2. Mondays or Fridays would be ideal, but whatever day would work for me. |
I'd love to do 4 day weeks. Tuesdays and Thursdays are usual bid days, so I couldn't take either of those off (not that anyonw would want a day off in the middle). What I'd really like to do is one week M-Th then the next week Tue-Fri. And alternate like that. It would really depend on when job meetings and other random events occur. I doubt I could have a 100% consistant schedule.
|
if i WAS working... id totally do a 4-day workweek with a day off. while fridays sounds awesome to have off... i think monday would be just as good. if none of my friends had friday off then i would just be hanging around doing nothing. and i find Mondays better days to get business done.
|
hmmm, i would definately do that. id probably work mon/tues and thu/fri with a wed off, because who does anything on Wednesdays? id be able to hit up the DMV or whatever easily lol...and usually by hump day im dragging so it would be best for me!
|
I work 12 hour shifts, 3 days a week as an RN and it's so much better than working 5 days a week!! I've never worked 9-5 hours ever, so I have no idea how to function like that.
|
Well I currently work what some call a 5/4/9 or compressed work schedule, so 8-9 hour days, 1-8 hour day and 1 day off, which is every other friday at the moment.
If the my agency would let us work 4-10s I would do it. I love my one Friday off, so having all Fridays off would be great! |
Considering I pretty much work 10 hours a day already and still work five days per week, yes, I would gladly take a 4/10 work schedule. And I'd take Fridays off.
|
1. I would definitely do a 4/10. I wouldn't mind having different days off each week. Keeps things interesting. All I know is, I'll do anything to conserve gas, its killing me!!!
|
My old job offered a 4/10 schedule. I would have never done it. Just the thought of spending 10 hours a day at that place makes my head hurt.
|
I would. I typically work 10 hours a more a day anyway.
|
Our employer offers "revolve" time. One option is 4/10s. I didn't choose it because my position is very stressful and by the end of the day, I'm done.
I do take advantage of a flex schedule and telecommuting. I work 7:00 to 3:30 with no lunch and work from home on Mondays. The only problem with working from home is I often have 6 - 7 hours of meetings on the phone. I'm using up my rollover minutes very quickly |

I don't think I could handle a 10 hour day at my office. I want to gouge my eyes out at 9 hours most of the time. |
My job offers 4/10s. I can't do it personally because I have to get my kids off to school at a certain time and have to be home to get them to activities in the evenings. It's already rushed with 8 hour days. (Our 8 hour days are actually 8.5 to include lunch and the 10 hour days are 10.5 to include lunch). Usually, by 4:10 or so (I work until 4:30), I'm so ready to leave that I'm climbing the walls. I can't imagine staying in that building for 10 hours. It's also a hassle when there's a holiday because holiday pay is for 8 hours. If you want 10 hours off that day, you have to use 2 hours vacation. Then again, since you have a day free during the week, you can schedule all of your doctor appointments, home contractor appointments, etc. on your day off so you don't have to use vacation time for those. I might consider it when the kids are out of the house.

I work 4x10. In some ways I do like it because I have three days a week off, but the days I'm at work I hate myself. Damn job gave me bleeding ulcers.

2) Friday One of my previous employers offered a "9-80" work schedule. This basically meant in 9 business days you worked 80 hrs. So the first week was regular 8-hr days M-F, and the second week was 4 10-hr days M-Thurs at the office so you had every other Friday off. It was pretty sweet. |

I already do that. I work at a hospital, so my hours are whenever I want them to be since we're open 24/7. My off days are generally Sunday (for church), Monday, and Wednesday (classes) though I switch it up occassionally. I was off this weekend and it was AWESOME. I'm not picky about which day I take off, but this was nice. With school, I have to be really careful working 40 hours, so I'll work 2 days for 8 hours and 2 days for 12. Sometimes, I do 3 days for 12 and 1 day for 4 to give me a break. It's just whatever my amount of homework lets me.

I wish schools would all go to 4 day weeks with longer days so I could get a Friday off. So many teachers take Fridays and Mondays off, it is difficult to secure a sub. |
i work retail and the only thing consistent about that is that i have two days off in a row
it could be a sat/sun or a mon/tues or however you want it set up but it doesn't bother me that it's not consistent because i know i'll be getting my 2 days off and that's fine with me. :) |
When I worked retail, I don't know how you got assigned your two days off but it was retarded. They would together one week, split, then together a few times, then split a few times. It was some formulated bs they were using, and it never rotated to a sat/sun unless you raised hell, or did like i did, and just gave yourself an entire weekend off. I convinced them I requested off for school business (it was actually going to install another chapter but they never would have given off for that), and after I assured them it was school business my supervisor wouldn't let upper management write me up.

My husband and I work 4/10hr days now, (9:30-8pm). It's really tiring, though. They wanted to give us both the long weekend (Fri. or Mon.) off scenario. That would have been preferable. Instead whatever day he has night classes that 7 week class period becomes our day off because he has to be there at 6pm. So every 7th week our schedule changes, but we have most weekends off unless we have to switch some hours around & work part of the day on Saturday. Other than it being a long day, I have no complaints. :)
