question
hello people.....im new to the site and have a few questions....i go to a technical skool and i really want to be part of a Fraternity....a few guys i kno are trying to start one and are having a meeting on sat in front of the skool officials...is there a way were i can get a national fraternity to start a chapter at my skool?....how much does it cost?.....and where do i start?.....thanx in advance....

First, you need to know if they college is open to Greek life. If so, try contacting the headquarters or expansion chair of the fraternity you're trying to pursue. That way you'll know if the specific fraternity is open to expanding to your school.
And, for the love of God, learn how to spell. |
thanx man...i kno that the guys here are interested....jus gotta c if the organization is....do u have any in mind that would be a good choice...i kno its about personal prefrence but im still new to this so do u have any suggestions....

Like you said, it is a matter of personal preference, so you'd need to research on your own. To get you started: North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) - http://www.nicindy.org National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) - http://www.nphchq.org National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) - http://www.nalfo.org National Multicultural Greek Council (NMGC) - http://www.nationalmgc.org Look at the member organizations' pages. |
Just a note, when you start contacting fraternities about expansion, make sure you are using proper grammar/spelling.

There are definitely some national organizations out there that will establish at a junior college...

But before anyone goes any further, why do you want to start a fraternity? |
Because the guys here want to start doin something positive. No one that goes to our skool really interacts with each other. We wanna come together with all the brothers no matter what race, religion, and age and make the community more social. Its already nothing to do in Blairsville Pa so we also want to start some programs that will involve the whole community. u know?.....

I personally think your best bet would be to start some other sort of organization that would accomplish what you want it to. Perhaps get with local businesses to sponsor events at the school and around town and see what you can't get done like that. |
i appreciate that man...ill c wat i can get started....i already contacted Psi Sigma Phi....i hope i get some positive feedback..

lol about being in Blairsville, PA. Not only is this a tech school, but it's a tech school in the middle of pretty much nowhere.
My advice? Concentrate on getting your degree/certification/whatever and get the heck out to somewhere where you can have a better future. This is the greater Western-PA area. The advice to join a union is actually a good one. Not sure if it fulfills your social needs, but unions do have some social/camaraderie functions. And if you want to get work, it's a necessity. PA is still a union heavy area. |
plus, i've seen some unions with kick-ass jackets.

you really dont need Greek letters to do anything of the sort. and i dont know how you plan to involve "the whole community" in this fraternity. if everyone is in the fraternity, how is it special? more so, how is it a value-add to anyone at your "skool" if everyone theoretically can be a member? |
i meant the whole wyotech community...not everybody would be in the fraternity....we would jus have activities that would involve everybody that was interested...

I'm not sure if anyone has been this blunt, but you should forget about joining any major fraternity. No major national organization will likely have any interest whatsoever in forming a chapter at a trade school.
Fraternities are somewhat elitist organizations. While they have expanded to many smaller, even regional schools (like my undergraduate school), they, to my knowledge have never once founded chapters at trade schools except maybe on an experimental basis. Your chances of affiliating with a major national fraternity are basically zero. Forget about it. |
