UCF Recruitment

HI!!!! I am new to the site, and I have read a lot of the past threads about UCF. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how UCF recruitment works, like how many days, what to expect, etc. The universities websites do not say much, and are not updated that often. I'm rushing in the fall as a freshman and will definitely share my story!!! I am SOOO excited, but still very nervous :D

Keep in mind that school's letting out for the summer, and that may be a reason why the website isn't being updated. Based on my past visits to the UCF Panhellenic website, they provide very detailed info about rush. It's a great website. Just give it some time before it gets updated.

You mentioned that you've already read past threads about UCF recruitment. Pay close attention to what you read there, especially from the UCF alums because they sure know their stuff. On the other hand, you might want to be mindful of how NOT to go through recruitment. ;)

If you've already registered for recruitment, be rest assured about getting info because you'll know more about it before any of us do!

Good luck.

good luck to you UCFgirl!

I'm a UCF alumna. When I was there, Recruitment was five days long (includes Bid Day.) As far as I know, that has not changed. Chapters are big at UCF and recruitment has lots of women involved. It's very exciting, and going Greek at UCF is a great experience.

Definitely read the threads about UCF recruitment. As I recall, the info is all pretty much correct.

If you have specific questions after reading those threads, feel free to PM me. You can also ask questions of ZTAngel and adpiucf, who are also alums of UCF and around here a lot.

This thread has info in it for all a couple of different Florida schools including UCF:

Good luck with recruitment at UCF. It is definitely different than 4 years ago when I first rushed but if you have any questions I can help you to the best of my ability.
The link above looks great for advice!!

I can't wait to hear your stories!

Hey Girls!
Im A Chi Omega at UCF. Formal Recruitment is So fun but kinda long. There is 4 Days and then BID DAYYY!!!

Day One is UCF Day where you got o every single house an meet all the sorority. SO youll have 10 parties to attend.

Day Two is philanthropy day where you go back to up to 7 of the houses and you learn about their philanthropies and chit chat and get to know more of the amazing sisters.

Day Three is Movie knight (my favorite day) You go to 5 houses that day and you watch a video about the sorority. The video included pictures of their sisterhood, events, socials, philanthropies, IM sports, trips that they go on anything and anything.

The last day is Pref Knight. Its more of a quiet day, you go to 3 houses and the conversation is alot more indepth and personal. You learn somethings that are important to each sorority and listen to girls experiences.

then is Bid Day where you would get your bid to a house!

All the sororities are amazing at UCF they all offer a great sisterhood and i can promise you as cliche as this sounds you really do end up where you are supposed to be!

message me if you have any other questions!

Is it harder to get bids at UCF as a sophomore? I rushed as a freshman but only got through 1 day before I dropped out because I didn't really see all of the advantages of rushing. Now that I have a year under my belt I can really appreciate sororities for what they are. Is being a sophomore going to affect my chances at all?

It was also explained to me (by my Rho Gamma, I believe) that women who rush are guaranteed at least one bid. Is that true, or did I misinterpret something?

Thanks,
Eileen

First of all, AWESOME username. Applause.

Second, bids are NOT guaranteed. Rho Gammas know better than to make such statements.

The UCF alums will know best about whether or not it'll be harder for you to rush as a sophomore but generally speaking (and based on what I've read about UCF rush over the years), I'd say yes, sophomore standing will affect you.

SoCalGirl 06-10-2008 05:05 PM

Some schools have guaranteed placement if you maximize your options. Whether or not you like your options doesn't matter.

For example, everyday you get cut by more and more of your favorite chapters. At Pref you only have the chapter you kind of think would be okay and the chapter you would rather not even visit. You must go to both parties, and rank both chapters, to be guaranteed a bid. Bid day comes and your now, sadly, a member of the latter group. You took your chances and lost. :(

Dang, SoCalGirl! That was awfully sad!

Sorry! :) I don't want anyone to think that guaranteed bid means guaranteed happiness.

Benzgirl 06-10-2008 05:51 PM

Ditto on your Screen Name. I'm ready to find my Dexys Midnight Runners LP.

I did a little interesting research in the last 5 minutes. Quota last year was 52, down from 60 in 2006. In IrishPipes thread, it showed that most houses took quota plus. When I went to UCF's website for the fall grades, only 2 houses had at least 52. Did that many girls depledge?

Of course... it's possible in some cases that a person would grow to love her last choice group after she gives it a try for a few weeks.

Anyway, the point may be moot since we don't have confirmation if UCF guarantees placement or not. Very few schools do.

exlurker 06-10-2008 08:08 PM

hey breathesgelatin, is your signature now meant to get everybody fired up for Bloomsday?

ha, no. It's just because.

sherbertlemons 06-11-2008 12:48 PM

UCF definitely does not guarantee bids. However, as long as your grades are good, and you go in with an open mind, you stand a pretty decent chance.

Sophomore standing can affect you, but it is nowhere near as bad as at some schools. Back in my day, I think a sophomore who was otherwise a strong candidate would at least have a chance at every chapter. Again, having an open mind is imperative, and recs wouldn't kill you either. (They're not all that common at UCF in my experience, so they will help you stand out.)

Thanks everyone for answering my question! All your answers were really helpful. I'm currently in the process of trying to get my recs right now, so I'm glad I got on that. :)

adpiucf 06-12-2008 03:07 PM

Agreed--- bids are not guaranteed.

Sophomores are at a greater disadvantage than freshmen at some chapters, but not all chapters.

Not all chapters get a lot of recs, but many do and they are coming in increasing numbers each year. When I was in school, we got a lot at my chapter. I can't speak for the others.

It's cliche, but keep an open mind to every single chapter, just as you would want each chapter to give you a fair shake! Each chapter is between 80-150 members. If you can't find friends in a group that size, I think the problem does not lie with the sorority! ;) LOL.

The UCF Greek System is going to be a fantastic experience, no matter what chapter you call home. More than 10 years after joining, I still love ADPi, but I know I would have been proud to call any of the UCF sororities my home! I was in a wedding last weekend where the bride was a UCF Chi-O, and her attendants included ADPi's, a Tri-Delta, a KD and other Chi-O's :) It's a wonderful Greek community, and you're going to have a great time at recruitment!

BellaBerlee 06-12-2008 08:06 PM

I second ADPiUCF. I rushed as a sophomore after "depledging" (if you call it that..)as a freshman... You won't get immediately cut from every chapter, but some chapters will consider you differently then they would a freshman.

However, don't let that get you bummed out. Every chapter IS extremely wonderful at UCF; luckily for us there is a great sense of respect and friendship amongst UCF greeks.

Stowey 06-23-2008 08:36 PM

I am also a sophomore at UCF who is planning on rushing in the fall. I don't really know any sorority alums, at least not in chapters at UCF, so I'm rec-less (not reckless though :)). Hopefully those two things won't affect my chances too much! UCF does have a great Greek system and I am really excited to be involved in it!

Just because your friends in sororities don't have chapters at UCF, that doesn't mean they won't be able to help you out. Ask your friends if they know anyone in the sororities represented at UCF.

Judging from what I've read here, it's not required, but recs definitely do help. Since you have some time before Fall Recruitment, maybe it might be a good idea to at least put in some effort in securing some.
