Dues

I'm curious what everybody pays for dues at the different chapters. I'm at Xi-Xi at Marquette University and it's $495 for the entire year (~$250/semester). What does everybody else pay?

Canadian 05-29-2008 02:21 PM

We always had issues with dues and when I was an undergrad it was 45 pledge fee, 150 initiation fee, 125 per semester with the option to break down semester groups and pay over 3 months.

Kappasigutc 05-31-2008 10:35 PM

That is pretty cheap. I don't remember how much ours were, but they were more than $125. Of course, we didn't have an official chapter house, so our dues were probably on the cheaper end of the scale.

akwilcox 06-07-2008 10:32 AM

we pledged to our brothers when we first formed, that our dues would not rise above 60 a month. we hope to stick to that promise. fundraising and exploiting alumni are the grace-givers!

There is only so much of that you can do though. To set a point and say our dues will never be higher probably shouldn't have been done. You never know how things are going to work out.

akwilcox 06-14-2008 05:29 PM

it's true-- money can be a bit thin, but if numbers can be kept up and people pay their dues, we should be ok. we want the fraternity to be approachable, and the number 1 reason why people say they don't want to join is because of high dues. we've got the lowest dues of the other organizations on campus, and that seems to be a strong selling point.

besides, a fraternity should never be about the money. we just need to work a little harder on fundraising (which can double as brotherhood events).

1000 per semester plus about 500 a semester in other party fees. If you live in house it is like 7500 a year. Fabulous Xi University of Arkansas.

We have 90 or so people living in the house at one time and including our apartments we are the largest kappa sigma complex in the country. check out some pics at fabulous xi.com We have around 250 members over 3000 initiates and more men of the year than any other chapter. 6, one of them is Jerry Jones. http://www.fabulousxi.com/

That they are one of the soundest, most storied chapters throughout the fraternal network. Then again, I wouldn't expect you to understand.

hogwild 06-29-2008 03:44 PM

Our dues are the most expensive on campus but sigma chi's is not far behind. We are the largest kappa sigma chapter in the country as far as I know with about 250 actives and over 3000 initiates. Our house holds around 95 in house and is amazing. check it out at fabulousxi.com 7500 a year is high but i now live in an apartment and it is more expensive than living in the house. Out of house dues are 1000 per semester which covers your food at the house. The extra about 500 per semester that we pay as needed goes to pay for parties. In April we have a huge party during Row week where we bring bands to every house this year young joc, lil flip, eve 6, and several others like benjy davis project and eli young band were here.

That's your opinion, and no disrespect intended, but as Nate pointed out, maybe it's not for you (as a non-Kappa Sig) to understand.

OleMissSoph11 07-02-2008 11:03 PM

$410 a month so $2050 a semester and $1600 per semester to live in the house plus assessments for various things so house and dues together are $7300 plus $200-$300 in assesments each semester

gruber 11-26-2008 09:45 PM

Kappa Theta's are in the neighborhood of 250 as well... Might be a little more though. We raised them slightly a little bit ago, can't recall the exact value (yea for being an alumni & not having to worry about chapter dues :p )

stufield 11-27-2008 05:42 PM

gruber:

You are not an "alumni". "Alumni" is masculine plural. You are an "alumnus", masculine singular.

The feminine equivalents are "alumna" (singular) and "alumnae" (plural).

Anyone who can't keep that straight, male or female, can just refer to himself or herself as an "alum" and nobody will ever know that he or she doe not know the proper Latin ... yes, it's Latin, not Greek ... although it's clearly Greek to some people.

louisrzurn 06-19-2014 03:06 PM

We were at $260 a semester last I checked.

LOL James told me about this ages ago. He didn't exaggerate about the obnoxiousness of it.
