Remember that Kappa Gamma at SCSU thread?

Since it's quiet and boring here at work...

You may remember this thread. James ended up closing it, stating it was only temporary.

Anyway, I was curious to see how the girls were doing.

They aren't listed on the SCSU Greek Life page or the Office of Student Life page.

Their MySpace page also appears to be defunct.

I wonder what happened? Are they now known as something else? Did the entire sorority just fold?

I wonder if KGSCSU will come back to enlighten us?

Senusret I 05-20-2008 08:22 PM

Tried to research it....the most I found was this.... scroll down: http://www.southernct.edu/clubs/beta...ge=our_sisters

Ugh...

TKE doesn't have any "sister sorority."

Especially not a KKG rip-off. They might be bff's on that campus, but they shouldn't use that term.

Feeling froggy? Go ahead and tell them: http://www.southernct.edu/clubs/tke/....php?p=contact

Someone who is no longer active status but won't go away?

ETA: They are active alum. For instance, one active alum "graduated from SCSU in May 2004 with a BS in Biology with Secondary Education certification. Continuing at SCSU for a Masters in Bio." The "active inactive" is just a tacky wording.

I thought it was someone who didn't pay their dues but still showed up to all the parties. :p

Well, I proudly don't know if KG has a dues paying alum status. :) So that may very well be what it is.

For some reason I thought it was a member who is still considered a collegian, but for whatever reason cannot attend events or does not pay dues. For example, a sister studying abroad who intends to return to active status.

Still, "Inactive Active" would seem like a better way to word it, lol.

scsugirl 05-20-2008 11:55 PM

I started the thread so obviously I remember it. In an email I recieved back when i made the thread the member whose never actually posted on gc just made an acct to email me said

"Hey, I am am alum of a sorority at Southern and I saw your post. Kappa is currently changing their image to break away a bit from the KKG mold, however due to events in the Fall of 2007, they will not be actively recruiting or taking in new members until the fall of 2009."

However I do not know what caused this but most of the sisters on facebook no longer say they are affiliated with KG and the facebook groups that were posted no longer exist.

A bit? Breaking away completely from anything KKG related sounds like a better plan.

scsugirl 05-21-2008 12:12 AM

Well since they cant take new members for another whole academic year and the active sisters are 25 at most I wonder if they will even be around when they can start recruiting again???

I'm at a campus with 3 local sororities. Of those groups, 2 don't rush every Fall. Why they do that, I don't know. What I do know is that when they do rush, if they don't have a large # of actives, they'll have alums come in and do the rushing...preferably the younger looking ones.

scsugirl 05-21-2008 12:27 AM

Oooo thats kind of a cool idea.

They could start by not referring to themselves as Kappa.

Based on the PMs I've exchanged with her and the stuff she left here, something just doesn't seem right with scsugirl.

Of course I could be wrong, but my suspicions are usually correct.

DSTCHAOS 05-21-2008 02:30 PM

Something seems strange about this to me, too.

From scsugirl's very first post months ago to the posts in this thread.

33girl 05-21-2008 02:46 PM

well, regardless of whether she's a freakadeakadingadoo, Kappa Gamma was still copying KKG and were still swingers in their profile. If you really want to "revamp your image" you take all that isht off the net so people don't keep seeing it.

She sent me a PM yesterday saying that if I had any further questions about Kappa Gamma, I could ask her.

She first came here a few months ago as a person 'looking to rush' and now she all of a sudden shares an old PM from a Kappa Gamma? Then I post about how a local on my campus uses young alums to rush after not holding rush for a while...and she posts something like that up there?

It just sounds really strange and suspicious.

DSTCHAOS 05-21-2008 03:38 PM

She or he isn't who she or he is claiming to be.

I felt that months ago when she or he first came here. It was too convenient for this KG situation to play-out the way it did. And it's too convenient for her/him to pop up in this thread when it hasn't posted in other threads.

Alias2345 07-15-2008 10:19 PM

So yes im bringing this back from the dead. . . However its with decent cause. . . Apparently Kappa Gamma is no longer in existence at Southern Connecticut and the members of Kappa Gamma are now members of a new local sorority called "Kappa Delta Xi" Apparently this time instead of taking off a letter they decided to add one to the name of yet another long standing organization. . .

I tried looking up Kappa Delta Xi and an existing fraternity in Flint, MI came up. Nothing of the SCSU group yet, except for their name on the SCSU Greek Life page.

FWIW, let's just hope these girls learned their lesson. It's one thing to have similar names, but we don't know if they're stealing existing sorority symbols. Can't wait to find out!

Alias2345 07-16-2008 01:10 AM

I cant either thats why i put it up here so the super GC'ers could research it because ive found nothing on google facebook or myspace. . .

It could very well be that way because everyone's still out for the summer.

Maybe things will pop up again once Fall semester begins.

Ok, without going into past offenses from this organization, this is not that big of a deal. There are only so many Greek letters, so I really don't see this as a huge infraction. Yeah, yeah, I realize there are thousands of combinations of letters, but then you can start arguing about Chi Omega/Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi/Alpha Omicron Pi, etc. It's not a valid point!

ETA: Of course it's different if they take symbols, colors, etc. (yes, I read this thread before). That's not what I'm talking about.

I would argue that from the stand point that with Chi Omega and Alpha Chi Omega information of other groups was not so easily available. To be honest its only an issue given their past history. The got flack for being Kappa Gamma so why use Kappa Delta with an extra letter. . . The could of gone with something comeplety new such as Alpha Zeta Kappa Beta. . . They just annoy me. . .

Greek life at southern in general annoys me for the way they handled a hazing incident with a NPC group back a few years ago :o

Why are you so wrapped around a tree about this?

And why are you coming to a greek board for "help" (to apparently continue to destroy this group you have a beef with) when greek life at your school "in general annoys" you?

Leslie Anne 07-16-2008 02:51 AM

Thanks for the heads up, Alias. It'll be interesting to see what develops in the fall. I don't have a problem with their letters being Kappa Delta Xi as long as they don't rip off KD symbols like they did with KKG. We'll just have to wait and see.

I wasn't coming back for help on recruitment or anything. . . Simply just updating the topic with what I thought was pertinent information. . . Southern is no longer my school. . . I transferred out to a much larger school with an actual greek life. Ironically during my time at Southern I thought their greek life was good. It was only upon transferring to a school with an actual Greek Life did i realize how ridiculous and lacking Southern's version of Greek Life is. :D

33girl 07-16-2008 09:43 AM

Unless they're going to go by "KD" for a nickname, change their colors to green and white, and paint nautilus shells on the sides of their cars, I wouldn't worry about it or think they are trying to "rip off" KD.
