Badges for sale

This person even admits it's her own badge that she's selling. Sad.

WOW, that is very sad!

I really just want to rescue that badge.

JennRN 05-20-2008 01:14 PM

Why would she sell her own badge?? I'm so tempted to ask her why!

AnchorAlumna 05-21-2008 11:12 AM

Probably $$$$. And the price of gold these days. However, things would have to get really bad before I sold my badge! It's more than just a piece of jewelry to me...;)

DGTess 05-21-2008 07:58 PM

It's possible she resigned, or dropped out of school and doesn't realize she has alumna status, I suppose.

I wonder if there is any way we can set up a fund with the Fraternity in order to rescue badges......just a thought?? It's just a shame that people would sell them. If they resigned then their badge needed to be turned into EO at resignation....hmm...

Not that I would ever, ever, EVER get rid of my badge..but I know in my chapter, we buy our own badges, so if I was told that I needed to turn in my own personal property to someone if I desistered, I'd think that was a little silly.

I do agree though--Something needs to be done. Especially after that badge from 1892 was just sold to a collector...

I hate to be the one to tell you this but you signed a document during your new member period saying you would return it, and your membership certificate, if you ever severed your membership.

These have the member's full name engraved on the back, and her initiation year was 1957.

Sorry to crash ladies but found a badge for you-

Vintage with a diamond, selling for $250.00
Delta Gamma Badge

AZTheta 03-11-2010 11:51 PM

*crash* only 12 hours left in the auction, and I would like to see these lovely anchors find their way home:

190378149841

they are mixed in with Girl Scout badges and what looks to be a Phi Kappa Psi badge, and other assorted pins.

AnchorAlum 03-12-2010 10:12 PM

VERY sad. And yes, if you sever your status with the Fraternity, you are supposed to return your badge.

My pin is all pearl and so is my chapter guard. After all these years, it still means a lot to me.

A remarkable pin for sale on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Diamond...item3ccf5f7216

WhiteDaisy128 02-28-2013 08:24 AM

That one needs to go to EO. I'll send a note to them about it.

AOII Angel 02-28-2013 08:25 AM

I was wondering about that one and why it didn't have the rope.

In 1905, DG badges became "standardized" -- before that, the basic design was the same, but different jewelers were commissioned by sisters to make each individual badge...so there was quite a bit of variation in each badge. The rope is an important part of our badge and it's sad it's not on there...but WOW! This badge is amazing.

AZTheta 02-28-2013 10:28 AM

It's quite striking, even without the rope. I *wish* the photos of the clasp were clearer.

Side note: Landsend has a really cute tote right now with an anchor on it. Not that I'm jealous or anything. I suppose I need to go post this in the anchor items thread.

Yes, the clasp does confuse me a bit. I thought those kind weren't used until a little later - I wonder if it's been replaced at some point? I also wonder if there was a rope at one point that broke off...I'd love to see it in person to get a better look. At first glance the photos look good, but when you really start to look at the pin, it's not quite clear enough to see details I'm looking for.

Titchou 02-28-2013 06:56 PM

Goodness!

Panhell 11-30-2013 11:10 PM

My mom is a Chi O, and she says that some GLOs have alums that watch ebay for pins and that they have a fund specifically set up to purchase them. Panhell love…..
