The Bachelorette - (DeAnna Pappas)

When I saw the 25 guys, I was rather disappointed, but as the show wore on, some of them started to grow on me. DeAnna looked gorgeous in the pilot episode.

As an aside, I think ABC should hook up Greg, the creepy personal trainer from NYC (Howling Wolf imitation, anyone?) with Stacey, the underpants girl from "The Bachelor-London Calling". They would be PERFECT for each other. :p

Taualumna 05-20-2008 08:49 AM

I thought the guy with the weird looking jacket needed a shower. He has an interesting personality, but if I were DeAnna, I would NEVER have given him a first impression rose. EWWW

ajuhdg 05-20-2008 08:50 AM

I'd given up on these shows a LONG time ago, but there was an article in our paper yesterday morning about a local guy on the show. So, of course, I had to watch and see how he did. It's Richard, and he's the teacher from Binghamton. He actually is from Whitney Point...about 20 minutes north of here. And, not that I'm a stalker, but if he gets kicked off and there are any single gals interested, his work email is still up on the WPCSD web site :p

Definitely some weirdos on there, but she did a good job picking them out. I'm surprised the oyster farmer went home. He seemed so sweet.

breathesgelatin 05-20-2008 03:12 PM

I'm still at the beginning of the episode (watching it on DVR), but I saw one of the guys and had to come in here and post. It's the guy who goes on and on about his hair gel and how important it is to style his hair... and then there are some images of him shaving his chest. I saw those shots and I had to come in here and post because it reminded me of the fratties. LOL.

So yeah, I'm still at the Bachelor introduction clips, not very far in. I didn't really like Deanna on the Bachelor, but I'm addicted to this trainwreck of a show (not to mention all my other shows are ending).

The preview clip at the beginning where she hollers at all the guys is classic. Just goes to confirm my opinion that she's a self-centered, angry person.

I still want to know if Matt and Shayne are still together...

Unregistered- 05-20-2008 03:36 PM

IIRC, DeAnna's from AGDLynn's neck of the woods. Lynn, do you know anything about her? Was she in a sorority in college?

ladylike 05-20-2008 04:30 PM

At the beginning, I felt like I was watching some kind of "Road to Chippendales" reality show. Never in all my days have I seen so many rippled abs and shaved/waxed chests.

No, no, no, the fratties hate - HATE - hair gel...see any GC thread discussing southern vs. california greeks. The fratties would rather have long, shaggy hair than use hair gel to keep it tidy. Real men from the south don't give a damn about their hair, right boys?

PeppyGPhiB 05-20-2008 04:38 PM

Oh, and I must say I thought the single dad from just-down-the-road-from-me was adorable.

Uh, duh. I meant he was the kind of guy fratties mock.

The frattiest guy was definitely Chandler. Only wtf was up with him crying at the end?

I think Richard is my favorite.

I haven't watched the Bachelor or Bachelorette since the first few seasons... but fiance and I watched this last night because there was nothing else on. DeAnna actually seems to have the right attitude and the right intentions. I like how she picked most of the decent guys, not the asshole frat boys (I mean that in the negative "frat" connotation). The guys she picked were the guys i'd probably pick. That was sort of nice. I'm sure a few idiots slipped in. Like snowboarder guy (ick, shower already). And I think karate guy made it in too, somebody PLEASE cut that mullet. Ick. And I'm glad goofy actor guy didn't make it in, he skeeved me out.

Yes, he was a WASTE of a perfectly good rose. WTF was she thinking? She should have kept scruffy Brian the Financial Analyst, if she likes scruffy...at least he is gainfully employed.

I would rather have kept a few roses and been like, "We're all done here...yeah, I have some roses leftover but the rest of you can leave now". LOL

Her bio says she went to Georgia Military College which is a junior college. No Greeks. Although, apparently she herself is Greek (ancestry-wise). :)

I was also shocked she picked the mullet-karate-master. One thing I love about the Bachelor/Bachelorette is the frickin' preview they give you the FIRST EP that shows basically everything that's going to happen. Based on that, it looks like karate guy sticks around for a while. At least long enough to go on a one-on-one that involves riding horses through the surf. Based on the preview, I think snowboard guy goes home next week. There weren't many shots of him. I sort of understand why she kept him though - a genuinely different guy that didn't make a total jerk of himself. I was surprised she kept Paul (is that the name of the guy with the DeAnna speedo?).

The whole "three people move into DeAnna's house per week" thing is going to make for an interesting dynamic. I can see that it's going to cause drama. *Gets excited* The show definitely needed spicing up.

The thing that surprises me is DeAnna's apparently insane emotions. We already have her telling one guy she can't lead him on - it's not apparent to me if that's at two-on-one date where she can only choose one to stay, or she's just telling some guy this before the rose ceremony. Also the scene where she apparently walks out of the rose ceremony crying. And most dramatically, the scene where she bitches out all the guys. I'm sorry, but unless something REALLY major goes down that justifies her behavior, if I was one of the guys, that would give me MAJOR pause about her.

I also noticed they're not plugging a proposal very hard. In fact the only person we got shots of in the finale was DeAnna herself. HMMMM. The weird aspect about the Bachelorette is that the Bachelorette chooses but then in the end it's the responsibility of the guy to choose the ring and propose or whatever. It just seems like an extremely awkward dynamic. And also stuck like 40 years ago or something.

*shrug*

It's not that surprising. Ever heard of Myrtle Beach?

Agreed with everyone that single dad is cute. From the edit I couldn't tell, but it seems like he might the front-runner that the other guys are whining about moving in with DeAnna first? One thing I was waiting for is if Jenni asked single dad the kids question. LOL. That would be awkward if he hadn't mentioned it to DeAnna and then Jenni asked him point blank.

I reaaaaaaally like Richard the science teacher.

I sort of liked scruffy Brian, but to give her the benefit of the doubt he didn't seem to have very much of a personality.

A couple of the guys were playing the Greek angle. I loved when Eric (that's his name right?) clearly spoke better Greek than DeAnna did. LOL! But wondering if that will lead to a strong connection between them.

I thought the guy that got the very first rose was really not that hot. In fact I thought the hottest guy was the African American math teacher. But the black contestant alway seems to get cut right away. Exception: Marshana from last season.

My roommate was flabbergasted she kept the bar owner from NYC via Raleigh because she thought DeAnna would be scared off from bar owners after Brad. LOL. He was one of the hotter contestants though, and from the previews it looks like he sticks around a while.

My final comment: I don't see why she gave the Christian football player the benefit of the doubt and not Chandler. I guess the duck call was weird but I thought it was kind of fun and cheesy and totally not as creepy as the stuff a lot of contestants do on the first episode. She forgave the football player for the glasses guy (UGH - he was nasty) sabotaging him, but didn't forgive Chandler when the abs guy sabotaged him. Speaking of which, I don't remember if abs guy stayed or not...

I wasn't looking forward to this much but it does look like they're upping the drama both by design and by DeAnna's tempestuous personality. I'm in.

OK, I just read online that Jason (adorable single dad) knows Bevin from a couple seasons ago on The Bachelor (remember, she came in second to Tessa with Dr. Andy). In fact, Bevin was a bridesmaid in his wedding!

Speaking of Bevin, I heard that she got engaged (read it on Kate Brockhouse's - from the same season - blog):

http://katebrockhouse.blogspot.com/

Speaking of engagements, Jenni was sporting a mad engagement ring last night. Anyone have the scoop on that?

Xylochick216 05-21-2008 03:06 PM

I didn't watch, but I just found out that I know of Chandler. He went to Elon and graduated two years after me. I've met him a few times at various parties. He's apparently going to be on Cash Cab soon, too. I heard he's trying to break into the business and is doing the reality show route to get his face out there.

Is he the one who got "misty" in his exit interview? My first thought after that was, "he's vying to be the next Bachelor". And he needs a haircut.

He looked the part of a total southern frat boy (including the shaggy "frat hair") but some things were off for me. His tag line said he was from Spotsylvania County but he kept talking about how he was from Virginia Beach. Then the crying thing, which I think was totally faked for the camera. A bit of trying too hard. The duck call was admittedly right on, though.

He is from here. There was an article in our paper about the guy. His twin sisters nominated him!

As for The Bachelor/Bachelorette series, if I hear Chris Harrison call it the most "dramatic/romantic" whatever, I am going to throw something at the tv. Drives me nuts!

I didn't catch any "MOSTs" during the first ep though.

I think they showed Jenni's update when they have that special edition of "The Bachelor - Where are they now?" or something like that. They showed how Brooke (from The Bachelor with Aaron) was now married, and how the crazy Miss Iowa was still single, but had a house and a dog, and how Heather from Texas did the Bachelor twice, and now she's married....

OTW, I never watch the show although I know she's on.

All I know is that she is a Realtor in town. I canceled my paper subscription in Feb. when I thought we were going to sell our house. Maybe it I renew it, we'll get an offer, lol.

Wonder if she knows the hometown girl that won the Miss Hooters Swimsuit competition last year.

Yeah, there were some super cute guys and some super NOT cute guys. I really liked the single dad and the science teacher. I watched a couple of episodes from the season when DeAnna was on the Bachelor, so I'm not sure what to think about her. Hmmm...

breathesgelatin 05-27-2008 02:29 AM

Thoughts on tonight's episode:

I was pretty much in agreement with the guys she released. But I'm not sure I see what she sees in Jeremy. "My parents died" doesn't seem to be the greatest connection.

Graham is super cute and based on tonight one of my favorites.

How long will mullet karate guy last?

Jesse is sort of appealing in an off-beat way, but I can't see him sticking around too long - he just doesn't seem like her "type."

There are really some dramatic guys this season!

I only caught the second half of tonight's episode, but I already can't stand Jeremy. The way he shared that his parents died - one at a time like he did - seemed like he was playing for the camera, though maybe that was just the edit. His "Welcome to our house!" comment was what really annoyed me, though, then when he swooped in and took her away from Twittey's (is that his name?) alone time when he already had a rose just pissed me off. He comes off as very insecure and he's using arrogance to cover it up.

I like Jesse. I think he's way more candid than any of the guys on the show so far; what you see is what you get with him, which has to be tremendously reassuring to someone dating someone ON TV I think.

ladylike 05-27-2008 12:54 PM

The "virgin" was an absolute ___________! Glad he's gone.

The barber, is he the oldest guy there? I refuse to believe he's 36. I'm thinking at least 42. He's a runner up in the __________ department.

Twilley gives me the willies. Something about him is...not right. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Jeremy reminds me of Keanu Reeves for some reason.

The high school football coach...from the neck down...yessssirrr!:D

LucyKKG 05-27-2008 06:42 PM

I'm also STOKED that Ryan is gone. He was a total prick.

I really don't think Jeremy is as bad as everyone makes him out to be. The show obviously wants drama. I don't think his "welcome to our house" comment was meant to sound as awful as it actually did. *shrug* I still like him. Oh, but he didn't need to still DeAnna from Twilley. That was def showing off.

Oh oh oh was it Graham? I think so. I think Graham made a comment about the outdoor shower and how it's weird to see other guys naked. I was like umm if you're a pro basketball player, don't you shower in the locker room all the time??

I really like Jason, but I can't wait to see when he drops the bomb about his son. Should've told her sooner!!

Agreed with everyone about Ryan. He was way too "I'm a Christian! I have values! I'm not like any other guy here or anywhere! I was voted most friendly in 8th grade!" (REALLY dude? you are still holding on to your EIGHTH-GRADE superlative????).

I see what you're saying about Jeremy. I more disliked his weird discussion about his dead parents than what he said to the guys. I agree that the "Welcome to our home" thing just came off wrong. He does look a bit like Keanu Reeves. A freckly, less attractive Keanu Reeves. And I don't think Keanu is that hot in the first place! I also agree that he seems a bit insecure, even more insecure than someone nerdy like Richard. I think there's some kind of mental or anxiety issue going on with Jeremy. Just an educated guess.

As far as Graham/basketball, I don't know how much of a real "pro basketball player" he is. For example Ryan was a "NFL player" or whatever but according to what people have posted here and elsewhere he's been on and off 6th string for several years now. Graham also told Deanna that he was a bar owner and starting a children's charity in the first episode, so I'm not really clear on what his pro-basketball experience really is.

Twilley does seem a little creepy. I don't think he's there for the wrong reasons, just... off.

High school football coach is too old-looking for me with the gray hair. I gotta say, just not my thing.

Ha ha...he puts the "willies" in Twilley. When he was waiting for her to come home, he just seemed a bit stalker'y and possessive. And he is not well spoken at all. He cannot get to the point and just talks in circles; it's very annoying.

If by "character development" you mean me sitting perched on top of his shoulders while he does push-ups, then yes. More please. :D

The barber (can't think of his name) just grates. What a pot-stirrer. Do something to get noticed (like the slightly greasy looking snowboarder) instead of whining like a little beesh.

Am I the only one who was cracking up at Tommy Lasorda? Was he cussing at the guys every time they struck out? lol

CutiePie2000 05-29-2008 12:56 AM

Graham was definitely the one who is a bar owner and starting a children's charity in the first episode.

Ron is the divorced barber.

SthrnZeta 05-29-2008 01:33 AM

I really thought Twilley was out and I was like WTF when she kept him. He is definitely a little on the creepy side and I would have kept the bad singer in the back (I forgot his name). I'm a huge fan of Richard (the nerd turned cute science teacher... mmm, hot for teacher?) and Jeremy is a little weird but I think he could turn out good. And I don't agree with her that Graham is hot (pick the teacher!!!) but he did seem genuine and nice so I'm glad he got a rose. Definitely glad the virgin is out and though I don't think Jesse is "the one" he definitely seems like a lot of fun. And Ron, quit yer bitchin and step up yer game!

breathesgelatin 06-03-2008 12:55 AM

So I'm totally spoiled on this show pretty much up the end thanks to FORT (Fans of Reality Television). But I still love it!

Thoughts on tonight:

Twilley's still around? Really? He just seems like such a goof and not Deanna's type at all.

Richard: I am so shocked she cut him. I was spoiled that he would go on a one-on-one and not get the rose. I assumed the date must have been awful or super-awkward or just tragic in some way. Personally I thought he was in the running for the most attractive guy, and also incredibly humble and sincere. I do respect the "I'm just not feeling it" thing but dang! I can't believe she wasn't feeling it. I hope he finds an awesome girl. Part of me wonders if he was too simple/boring for her (eg, she's into the drama!). But there definitely wasn't anything wrong with the date other than Deanna's own feelings that I could tell.

Ron: Man. I don't totally disagree with his opinion of Jeremy, but he totally needed to lay off it. What a crazy egotistical guy. Good riddance.

Speaking of Jeremy: I really can't stand his face. I know he has a nice body, but I think he's one of the least attractive guys in the house to me, facially.

Fred: seems really sweet to me but I don't think he's staying much longer. :(

Paul: was just too young.

Brian: is fading into the background. I sense a cut coming soon unless he does something to make himself stand out.

Jason: I thought the observatory date seemed awesome. I would love that date! The gift Deanna gave him was thoughtful and appropriate and he was really moved by it. Yet, something seems a bit off for me with him.

Jesse: I am not hating him, but shocked he keeps coming back based on the fact that he seems so opposite to Deanna. If the DL I've read about him on other forums is true (not spoilers exactly, but real life news), though, he's kind of a butt.

Graham: I like him but he seems to have weird communication techniques. I think he's super hot though.

Robert: Is the other guy (along with Jeremy) I find least attractive on the house. Also seems to be into the drama.

Sean: faded into the background of this episode. Not surprised he was in the "final three."

Next week looks AWESOME. YAY Deanna blowing up. She's such a despicable drama queen. I really don't like her but I like watching her show!

I LOVE JASON. The conversation tonight between him and Deanna about his son (with photos) and her mom was one of the most real I've seen on one of these Bachelor/Bachelorette shows. Right now I think he's the clear front runner.

Jeremy was still being jerk-y tonight.
