Obama counts the states....

This is great..... I am sooo glad the perhaps future Commander in Chief passed his US History 101!

Obama travels to 57 states?

Senusret I 05-10-2008 11:22 AM

If you weren't so ignorant, you would know about the states of North Virginia, East Carolina, Canada, Upper Peninsula, Vermont II, Vermont III, and Utah, Jr.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::p

DSTCHAOS 05-10-2008 11:56 AM

Exhaustion. You don't have to be an Obama supporter to see that.

I wait for a pattern of dumb before I declare someone an incompetent idiot.

WOW, you guys FINALLY caught Obama in a lie, because he clearly hasn't been to 57 states in the hours and hours and hours of campaigning he has to do in his 72 hour days.

what pattern? the one that proves he is human... i haven't heard him say nuclear yet, but I'd like to. Or see him eat a pretzel.

Jesus, everyone is blasting this man for everything, even for a simple harmless joke

For anyone who cares, Senator Obama did not campaign here in Hawai'i. We held our caucus last February and Chelsea came here to campaign for her mother. Obama's sister, Maya, still lives here with her family and represents her brother at all official events.

He did too, he visited early jan. to visit his sister.

I can assure you he did not. He did live interviews with all the local news stations via satellite and each time he apologized for not being coming out here since he announced his candidacy. His sister's met him out on the campaign trail, though.

He hasn't been here since January OF LAST YEAR. He usually comes every Christmas but last Christmas was the first one in 25 years that he's missed: http://kgmb9.com/main/content/view/4165/40/

Believe me, we pay very close attention to him over here. :)

Well which one is better....

Miscounting states, lying about snipers....or having Joe Lieberman whispering in your ear the difference between Sunnis and Shiites?

Wearing a turban, definitely

Aren't we all kind of pathetic? We seem to want to regard errors by the candidates we don't support as being meaningful indications of competency and character and the ones by our own as simply momentary lapses in speech because they are tired.

As I said earlier, I look at patterns of dumb before declaring anyone an incompetent idiot.

I never "support" any candidate so they're all free game for me.

Just to note here....I personally haven't yet decided who I am voting for yet, and even if I had, I like to make fun of all of the candidates when such things present themselves!

DolphinChicaDDD 05-12-2008 02:06 AM

It was a simple misspeak. He meant to say 47. Think about what he said. We have 50 states. His staffers said no to Hawai'i and Alaska 50-2=48. He has one more to visit. 48-1=47.
Everyone makes mistakes. However, if he were to repeat it often then I would become worried.

Exactly...a forgivable mistake is one thing...

But Hillary outright LIED not once but many times about the sniper fire she was supposedly under in Bosnia....not tolerable....how are you going to lie about something that got caught on camera?

And then McCain whose claim to fame is his 'experience' because he was a POW has Sunnis and Shiites and doesn't remember who is training who....?

I am sorry, I don't want that happening when he sits down with super powers like Russia and China and he gets their allies and enemies so mixed up that a gaffe like that causes an incident because of his misspeak...and face it...he has already said long ago that he doesn't trust Asians (referring to them as 'gooks') so do we really want him at the table with them especially now that most of these countries aren't all that friendly with us?

It's a lot easier for someone to get confused about something like foreign relations but when you've been in the United States for forty years, you don't forget how many states there are no matter how tired you get. And I've never heard this stuff so where are your sources? And yes, I would much rather McCain sit at that table than anyone else running.

Well you haven't been paying attention to this part of GC much if you haven't heard of McCain's gaffe...

You can either search along here because I did post about that a while back or you can use google since you missed it.

McCain: "I don't give a damn...I fought in a war...damn those g***s...that's right I said it!!! They will always be g***s to me!!!! G***S G***S G***S!!!"

A political advisor or someone whispers in his ear: "Hey...just apologize...you may be jeopardizing your career...keep the g**k stuff for behind closed doors."

McCain: "okay...I apologize...to the g***s and nong***s...because such language is not right...."

He's sooo sincere.

i've always heard it specifically for vietnamese. but either way, in regards to this, i can't see how any asian american would vote for mccain.

Obama Auschwitz reference, another stumble for Obama. What do you guys think, lying to advance agendas and give himself first hand credibility, or simple mistake?

ETA: DSTCHAOS, is he closing in on stupid pattern behavior?

Option C: Not that serious

The "Obama is a sexist" thing didn't go as far as I thought that it would. I was kinda into that one because I hate when random men use pet names for women. Damn him for that. But I guess people are too stuck on the other stuff (how many states there are, his race, his religion, etc.) to care about perceived sexism.

Stupid in terms of not knowing how many states there are OR stupid in terms of not choosing his words wisely for whatever reasons?

If it's the latter then the candidates are tied. But since I'm not a fan of any of these candidates or take any of them seriously, I'm not surprised.

Well how about McCain's daughter calling Obama "sexy"?

She said he was sexy, which a lot of people agree with. He's okay sometimes, I guess.

She didn't call him sexy as in "hey sexy." (or did she?) That would've been inappropriate but it wouldn't necessarily be sexist.

IMVHO, a rather simple error in speech.
The GOP brought in up as if it was such a huge deal:eek::confused:
"Obama's mistaken mention of the camp on Monday quickly generated Internet chatter, ranging from puzzlement to outrage. The Republican Party demanded an explanation."

Yeah you're right. She just merely observed that she thought he was sexy.

I'm surprised the media hasn't exploited the fact that she voted for John Kerry.

Well hell, how is the party supposed to automatically know he had a great uncle at a different concentration camp? If they think he's lying they are right to ask him to explain. Particularly when we were taught in eighth grade, american forces didn't liberate Auschwitz.

Nate;
My Uncle, and his unit, also liberated a camp. However right now I could not tell you which one.
I do know that his unit was in the second wave at Omaha. That just sticks in my mind. Along with him, as a FAO, calling in Artillery onto his own position-what is now called danger close. Twice.
If you can recall from 8th grade the history of Auschwitz, perhaps you can recall which camp in Germany was the first to be liberated by US forces? And by which units?
Hint:
http://www.89infdivww2.org/index.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/89th_Division_%28United_States%29

We all learn different things and retain them in different ways.
And we all can mis-speak at any given time.

And more importantly, every campaign office has books and books and books covering everything about the other candidates.
I would find it very hard to believe that the GOP did not know about Obama's Uncle war record.
And if they did not, would have taken less than 2 minutes to find out.

And from what I saw in my morning paper and on the morning news shows, this matter is no longer in news cycle.

My thoughts were along the same lines when I heard this! Stories get passed down through generations! A great uncle is often considered an uncle! And it of course may be confused which camp was liberated as we talk about over 60 years later! Honestly, the illustration is still the same!

nate, I have no idea where you pulled this from. The Memorial day speech and its reference to the American troops serving during World War II has given as an example of the bravery of our American troops throughout history.

My quote that you refer to had to do with the fact that his illustration of this bravery still matters even if a few of the facts were lost to history.

I never said anything about John McCain.
