Deadliest Catch

I tried searching for an old thread, but couldn't find one. (I suck using the search.)

Please tell me there are other Deadliest Catch fans on GC. This is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I am so glad it is back.

Kappamd 04-30-2008 10:08 PM

I will sit and watch that show for like, hours. It's pretty much addicting.

ZTABullwinkle 04-30-2008 10:11 PM

Me too! It is one of those shows that I can watch over and over.

Last night was apparently the highest rated episode ever of Deadliest Catch! I was laughing at the Hansen brothers "Last Man Standing" competition. Dangerous, but funny as hell.

The one night I miss:eek:
Have to catch re-run.

BetteDavisEyes 04-30-2008 10:40 PM

I only recently started watching it but thanks to my hubby & father-in-law, am catching up on the previous seasons.

PeppyGPhiB 05-01-2008 12:48 AM

I like this show, and Ice Road Truckers! One of the boats used in Deadliest Catch is apparently based on Lake Union in Seattle, so says the operator of the in-city tour we took this summer with my bf's parents.

ETA: I actually just looked up the bios of the crews featured on this season, and it turns out ALL of them are based in Seattle. I guess it shouldn't surprise me...we love our boats and seafood!

Last season after the last show, they taped a reunion show with the Captains in a Tavern somewhere Downtown.

My boyfriend's dad keeps trying to get me to watch Ice Road Truckers, but I still haven't seen it. Apparently it is just as good though. I'll have to look out for it.

All of them? Even the Cornelia Marie? I could have sworn on the Cornelia Marie it says "Juneau, AK." I always thought that is where they are based. Hmmm...interesting. I've always wanted to visit Seattle.

Seattle is a great city; just plan on coming between May and Aug.

They may be registered in Juneau for financial or other practical reasons. I don't know though.

And I was laughing at Sig cussing out the other guys for being stubborn as he refused to give in first.

I love this show, my fiance and I DVR it! I can't watch this week's episode until he gets back though, boo!

It was a good episode, as you can see us talking about it. I am waiting to see how some spoiler info about one of the captains pans out in the next few episodes.

Educatingblue 05-01-2008 07:08 PM

This is a great show and it's nice to see how they make their living! It was kind of sad at the beginning of the season where they show the "memorials" of the all the people who have died at sea.

You know what was sad for me, that time that the Time Bandit helped save that guy who was hanging from the pods and fell into the Sea after the wave knocked him over.

Seeing Johnathan's (that's the captains name, right?) reaction and how everyone had soo many emotions going through them was touching.

KSUViolet06 05-01-2008 10:54 PM

This is yet another one of those shows that I could watch forever.

Thetagirl218 05-02-2008 12:29 AM

My favorite show was when Sig's men (I can't remember the name of the boat, NorthWestern maybe?) welded the Corniela Marie's pot together, and put underwear inside of it! That was funny!

The Pole and the Truck were not too bad either.

I know, big tough guys... totally okay with crying under that sort of pressure.

BUMP FOR TONIGHT'S SHOW

May 20, 9:00 pm

(60 minutes) Deadliest Catch
Seeking the Catch
TV-14 (L)

As the King Crab season ticks down, mass amounts of stinging jellyfish in unfilled pots add insult to injury. The Cornelia Marie faces losing their captain for good. Crew mistakes onboard Northwestern could be costly.

I can't believe this thread hasn't picked up since May. Surely I can't be the only one who still watches The Deadliest Catch?

I love seeing Phil interact with Josh and Jake. You can tell they're all hard asses who don't like to show emotion, but they all seem to manage to do so. It was hard seeing Phil in a hospital gown and not in his Captain's chair!

I can't wait to head off to the crab buffet again!

I am still watching! I had to TiVO it last night, so after I watch it I will be back!

Leslie Anne 07-02-2008 02:53 PM

Darn it! I missed it last night. I wanted to find out what happened to Phil. I was so worried about him. Did anyone watch "After the Catch?" I loved the Coast Guard pilot.

Anyone else crave crab legs after watching the show?

Oh, all the time. Luckily there's an all you can eat buffet 10 minutes away from my house that serves crab legs. When DolphinChicaDDD was here during Memorial Day weekend, it was only fitting that we went there because there was a DC marathon going on!

I too loved the Coast Guard pilot in After the Catch. She does not look like a CG pilot at all...but she sure knows how to keep her cool so she can save lives!

I was worried about Phil too. But don't worry, I won't go too much into it since some of you haven't seen it yet!

And yay for lots of fresh greenhorns!

ZTABullwinkle 07-02-2008 07:00 PM

I haven't watched "After the Catch" yet, but I did watch last night's DC episode. I think Phil is one very lucky man. Most people die from blood clots like that, but he lived after waiting so long to get medical care for it. Talk about an angel on his shoulders watching over him.

I am glad Moi is gone. But thought it was sad that while the captain was talking about firing him, he was saying how he wants to do better on the ship. At least Keith didn't drag it out.

Liking the new Greenhorn on the Cornelia Marie, but the other one on the North American (I think) needs to quit his bitching.

Like the CM greenhorn, the greenhorn on the Time Bandit looks promising as well. I'm curious to see how Keith's new guy on the wizard turns out. I LOL-ed when he was sifting through applications and resumes and one guy listed his PO as a reference!

Something tells me this isn't the last we see of Moi. And I agree with you about the North American's greenhorn. He seems so...tubby.

Aww. I got all sad about the guy who listed his PO as a reference. The guy's trying to turn his life around and get honest work. I'm such a mush it's pathetic. I've even felt sorry for a solitary cookie left in a cookie jar. You never know, it could get lonely.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of that greenhorn, Cooper. I liked his floppy hair.

You're totally right. I guess I just went along with Keith's reaction to the application. I know a thing or two about second chances, and I hope the guy was able to find work elsewhere. I had no idea that crab fishing was a job a lot of people line up for, judging from the stack of applications Keith had. I suppose with the show's popularity and how much money you can make, people are ready and willing to be on a crab boat, regardless of safety and risk.

I look at Matt (?) on the Northwestern and even though he comes off as an asshole sometimes, I can't help but feel sorry for him. I'm under the impression that he's in recovery for substance and/or alcohol abuse, and I can only imagine how hard it must be to be working and alone with your own thoughts all the time.

Did anyone catch the Season Finale last night?

It'd totally suck if Phil's (Cornelia Marie) done with fishing forever. :(

We missed it! My nephew came in and turned to cartoons and my mom let him.

My mother watches this show like no tomorrow. When I finally get hooked, I got punked by a 9yo. It really got me when the doctor told that guy "This [lung damage] didn't happen on the boat. This could be pneumonia or emphysema from smoking..." Talk about a wake up call.

BetteDavisEyes 07-23-2008 07:07 PM

I hope this isn't the end for Phil. I love him!

Still, the Hillstrand's are my favorites and Mike digs Sig the most.

This has to be one of my top shows ever. It's great to watch the interactions between the men. Also, I too felt bad for the guy who listed his PO as a reference. He's probably trying hard to change his life around and this was a way to do it. I sure hope it worked out for him.

I still buy the dented can left on the grocery store shelf. No one else would take him!...uh, I mean it. :o

Phil and the Cornelia Marie are my favorites. I watched this show nonstop from Saturday morning to last night. I even watched it at work and none of my co-workers could understand why I was obsessed with it. Every catch is an adventure! Plus Phil's sons aren't so bad themselves...

BetteDavisEyes 07-23-2008 09:35 PM

I teared up when they did the end montage of the crew from the Alaskan Ranger and how 47 men went into the water when the vessel went down and only 42 were rescued. :(

PM_Mama00 07-24-2008 03:08 AM

I went to see the band that I see every week, and they played Dead or Alive tonite and my first thought was "I need to watch Deadliest Catch" and then they mentioned it. I've never been this obsessed with a tv show.

basket96 07-24-2008 10:56 AM

I love, love, love this show! My husband got me hooked. (Get it, "hooked"?)

I never complain about the price of crab in restaurants. If anything, after seeing what these guys go through, I think it should cost even more!

I thought it was interesting that most of the crab caught by the Deadliest Catch guys actually gets shipped to Japan. Allot of the crab sold in stores in the US is actually from China or Russia.

AOII_LB93 07-24-2008 01:17 PM

My husband and I have been watching this show ever since it started. Anyone else noticed that it seems like the Hillstrands are a nice group and really seem to try and have fun with one another? They seem to smile and laugh a lot more than other crews.

There's nothing like having your family on board, right?

The Hillstrands, the Harris boys on the Cornelia Marie...even Edgar and Sig on the Northwestern. But you're right, when you compare the Hillstrands to the other families, they just don't yell at each other too much.

It was neat to see that one After the Catch episode and the captains talked about what they do when they're not fishing. Andy raising horses didn't seem too out there as Phil and his building bird feeders!

squirrely girl 07-24-2008 01:42 PM

i loved those bird feeders!
